I think I need to come back to receiving my news via RI for my mental health.

It is difficult to describe how degenerated the Finnish/European discourse on Russia is. Even the left is sinking into base cultural chauvinism bordering on racism (think Clapper's "Russians are almost genetically predisposed to co-opt and deceive" or something to that effect). Most definitely Russophobia.

I resigned from the most leftist Finnish parliamentary party earlier in the winter due to its rubber-stamping in a coalition government of a purchase of horrifically priced Lockheed-Martin Hornet fighter jets (NATO compatible of course) in a general atmosphere of austerity and supposed need to "cut costs" (which is of course constant in this late capitalist neoliberal hellscape anyway). Always money for weaponry though. Fuuuuuck. Anyway, I never looked back and the party is now fully locked & loaded for a confrontation with Russia.

Every newspaper and media is beating the war drums, the tone is hysterical. No facts necessary. Craig Murray's "Let Loose the Dogs of War" piece definitely applies.

Depressing, sad and scary.

As is visible in this OSCE monitoring mission map from Sat-Sun, most of the explosions due to shelling occurred inside the separatist held areas, indicating that the fire came from Ukraine's side of the line.

The propaganda is being catapulted full blast now, Ukraine is apparently just standing around doing nothing while the dastardly RUSSIAN-BACKED (always has to mentioned) separatists apparently just 100% react to Russian false flags.

Isn't it funny btw how "false flags" and "microwave weapons" are conspiracist nutjobbery when applied to anything else than Russia? When Russia is concerned, anything fucking goes.

I'm waiting for the NYTimes to report Putin's using child sex and snuff operations to blackmail Ukrainian politicians.

Some useful context.

Sep 25, 2015

The University of Chicago
UnCommon Core: The Causes and Consequences of the Ukraine Crisis

John J. Mearsheimer, the R. Wendell Harrison Distinguished Service Professor in Political Science and Co-director of the Program on International Security Policy at the University of Chicago, assesses the causes of the present Ukraine crisis, the best way to end it, and its consequences for all of the main actors. A key assumption is that in order to come up with the optimum plan for ending the crisis, it is essential to know what caused the crisis. Regarding the all-important question of causes, the key issue is whether Russia or the West bears primary responsibility.

The state of Finnish "leftism" in 2022. I seriously never considered the possibility before this tweet, but his takes are so convenient and pretty popular among the bourgeois "left" that why not suspect him of being a CIA asset. His highlighting of his fraudulent "leftism" is certainly front & centre.

Well finally it has begun....

Russia's Major Military Operation Against Ukraine Has Begun

Image

After months of a buildup of weaponry, materiel, and troops along Ukraine's borders, as well as extreme geopolitical posturing and brinksmanship, Russia has begun a major military operation in Ukraine. Russian President Vladimir Putin announced the start of the "special military operation" in a speech broadcast on national television this evening.

Putin reiterated many of the same claims he had made in a speech earlier this week as justification for launching the military intervention against Ukraine, including the refusal of the government in Kyiv to renounce any plans to join NATO and the entirely unsubstantiated claims that Ukraine is seeking to develop nuclear weapons. He insisted that Russia is not seeking to occupy Ukraine, but claimed that the country would be "demilitarized" as result. He added that Ukrainian forces that laid down their weapons now would be assured safe passage back to their homes. The Russian President threatened swift action against any outside powers that might attempt to intervene in the conflict, as well.

you would think there would be one news outlet, somewhere in the world, just reporting on a live feed of information. There needs to be a news outlet who only hire reporters with aspergers.

Al Jazeera is probably the best I can think of: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-upyPouRrB8

For direct feeds with zero punditry Ruptly is good: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7qQwUpbAUms

But they don't translate and closed-captions have been disabled for some reason.

Looks like the CNN “correspondents” on the scene have been unleashed along with a invasion of bots and social media warriors. Missiles now hitting Kiev! Next up, babies and incubators.
