One night he had a massive fit

Just like that, right? The mother and the uncle had nothing at all to do with it? Nothing they said or did could possibly have angered or hurt that tiny kid in any way? It just possessed him, that "fit" (sic), like the Devil? Nothing preceded that "fit" or provoked it or caused it or made it worse?

Like hell.

My brother (who was one of just put him in time out believers)was there he held him the last hour until he fell asleep because his body couldnt go anymore...In silence I heard my brother crying and I asked him whats wrong and he replied Im grown man he was thrusting me into wall with such aggression something Ive never seen before in a man much less a child of 4 yrs old...My reply was cold and detached and I said well maybe you should of try to put him in time out...He got the point.

Who's sick there? Not the child, that's for sure. The whole culture is sick.

..My son started acting differently at age of 2...(Of course he did! He was a growing child! He was becoming a toddler!) NOOONE believed me everyone suggested time outs and bad behaviour but I knew in my heart it was more.

She knew in her heart. Sic.

they gave me a diagnose of Severe Anxiiety and Impulse Control...

The child's severe anxiety of course has nothing to with the family he has to try and live with. It would be disgracefully unscientific even to consider such a hippy-dippy suggestion. What science is going to do is dope the brat instead.

They started him on Prozac and Risperal but Risperdal very strong and my son has asthma so after year they cahnged to Abilify....He has been hospitalized twice last July 5th was first time...I know how you feel its horrible I got one hour to see him and on Wednesday no visits at all due to lack of hospital staff(Katrina Area).I could call check on him but I wasnt allowed to speak too him other then monitored visit in this room

Why was she not allowed to speak to him? Why are her visits monitored? It looks to me as though the shrinks and the quacks might just possibly know a wee tiny bit more than they're pretending, about the mother's actual role in provoking the boy's "fits" and "bad behaviour" (sic).

Not that that deters the bastards from pumping him full of Prozac and Risperal and Abilify and Pacificate and Behaviorize and Transmogriton and Controlaboy and who the fuck knows what else. (What will they try next? Vodka?)

Katrina Area. New Orleans. This family have been abandoned in their distress and their impoverishment and it's driving them crazy, so their only way of coping with a tiny, growing boy is to drive him crazy too. There are millions of families like them, more every day. Time to call in the Impulse Controllers....

Medicine is social or it's worse than nothing.

- Sorry Nordic, I missed what you were saying. Something about normality.

From the blog Januaryfirst.org:

Credentials of correspondent, "Herb"

--former DBSA facilitator, board member and president of a local chapter and former State of Florida appointment as a Guardian Advocate.

--Wife ill with mood disorder for 47 years:

From his post:

"There are several points I would like to make. The first being as a facilitator we had some very simple rules read prior to the commencement of each meeting. All participants were requested to speak from the first person singular “I”. As an English major I think you’ll be able to relate to that which I’m about to share. That is one should state, “I used this medication or I experienced this side-effect or if it were I, I would do such and such or based upon my experiences or knowledge I would disagree with you on the following point(s).” The participants were also requested to avoid the use of the word “you.” Such as “You should do this or you should do that or you are wrong or you don’t know what your talking about, etc”.

This simple set of rules in my experiences helped diffuse and eliminate many confrontations and helped in maintaining orderly meetings. I personally think those who participate here keeping these two ideas in mind might also help to diffuse some of the tension and set us on the orderly path to be more supportive of one another while productively sharing our experiences and accumulated knowledge."

Sounds reasonable to me.

Update on January Schofield:

On June 24, while the family was eating breakfast at Denny's, a drop of orange juice spilled on Jani's slacks, a sensation she cannot stand. She began to remove her pants in the restaurant but had not put on underwear that morning. The couple wrestled with her to keep her dressed while she erupted with fury over her wet clothing.

It took an hour to calm her.

Nightmare for Jani and her parents. I can't imagine what this would be like on a daily basis.

From Januaryfirst blog, latest installment--Hurt

Thodora:
"Only YOU know your children, your family. One begins to believe if it were up to some people, all of us nutters would be left on some sort of leper island to eat a gluten free diet and suffer.

I'm now following your blog-thank you for your candor, and mostly, for showing love in the face of so so much."

This is from someone who actually has a psychosis. Schofield's blog is getting broad based support from advocates for the mentally ill as well as the mentally ill themselves.

Translation: Most of Big Schofield's fans are insane.

But that was already obvious.

You have posted that you think the diagnosis of psychosis is a culturally mediated construct, so really not appropriate to describe anybody, yet your words above contradict.

They contradict nothing whatsoever. Go away, agitprop. You are a timewasting troll.

From the comments box at Blogmeister Schofield's highly-exclusive fan club:

a parent and supporter

I am nearly in tears, and I just want to say that I find the strength demonstrated on this blog incredibly impressive and deeply moving.

There is something heroic going on here.

It is truly inspiring to see how that tiny six-year-old child continues to stand up against your ongoing attempts to drive her insane. You are pestering her to distraction, you are never out of her face, and what you call her psychosis is nothing but her thwarted life.

Good luck, Jani. You'll need it. A lot of people are following your ordeal very closely and rooting for you.

Another good point on the blog from the poster, "Jan".

"Our best hope for a cure lies with the realization that the brain is susceptible to disease that can affect mood and perception as much as motor function. One would never tell a victim of Parkinson's disease or their parents that their illness was a result of questionable parenting. I look forward to the day when criticism of this sort is undermined by the same solid research that could very well pull Jani out of her twilight world."

My hope for the board is that it be a healthy place to exchange news, share perspectives and encourage one another in a time of unprecedented crises. To maintain its health I've realized the need to be more explicit about what isn't welcome here.

Please refrain from personal attacks, and let's try to keep arguments issue-based.

Nope. He's not allowing attacks. There is a difference. Read through the blog. There's criticism there....both self criticism, and criticism by others. He just doesn't let people use him as a lightening rod for their own rage, or use his blog as a forum to libel him and infer he's a criminal, attempting to kill his child.

New laws in the world's smallest police state:

Symptomatic, or what? Pass no judgements. Never ask questions. Criticism sucks. No one is responsible. Daddy Knows Best. Gimme no lip, kid: I am your voice. It's mean to be judgmental. She's psychotic, period. Stop playing the blame game. Look forward, not back. You're OK, I'm OK. Bipartisanship's a must. No tinfoil-hattery. Don't prosecute Bush. I heart Obama. Support Our Troops. "Where's Jani's Thorazine?" "Under your Fluoxetine. Seen my lithium?" "It's next to the remote." "Has Bodhi had his Big Mac yet?" "No, I gave him a time out."

Move on, move on, move on.

8.This blog is monitored 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

By him and his unbearable wife plus the "esteemed" (sic) 'Son of Slam' (I can barely bring myself to write that username down.)... 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Defending Daddy's ego is a full-time job.

Imagine it. They've shut themselves into an airtight room, and the walls are lined with mirrors.

Mac, your problem here is that you cannot accept that there actually ARE some kids who have mental health problems. But there are.

In your world-view it seems it's NEVER the kids who have the problems, but ONLY and ALWAYS the parents who cause this stuff.

Why do you see things in such a black-and-white view?

You make a lot of good points, but your black-and-white goggles really get in the way.
