Again, there's no need to be applying templates to this yet.

FWIW, I think they got caught for real but they're connected to many such operations coming out of the "conservative" thinktank complex. It's practically an industry.

I usually see no need to assume guys like this are so smart that if they're caught it must be part of the plan. If spooks were right in the head, they wouldn't be spooks. They get away with so much thanks to the tolerance and denial of the surrounding culture. Because they get away with so much, they learn the lesson that "crime pays" and so they keep doing it and often do stupid things. As C.A. Fitts said, "Those who win in a rigged game, get stupid."

Long article in the NY Times today has lots of stuff reviewing the many annoying activities of O'Keefe and his buddies (including their New Orleans host, Ben Wetmore) in their never-ending, thinktank-financed campaign to end the cruel victimization of young privileged white college-educated males with fratboy mentalities. Worth reading, but playing the Landrieu event as a prank gone wrong, and all-too-revealing in that the only thing they found to say about Dai despite his various spook connections was this:

One of those arrested was Stan Dai, 24, a former editor in chief of the irreverent GW Patriot at George Washington University, where he published an anti-feminist article lampooning the play “The Vagina Monologues.” His version was called “The Penis Monologues.”

Now a story in Counterpunch (print only) this week about how the Trinity program that Dai graduated and helped administrate was the FIRST OF TWENTY-TWO SET UP BY CIA ON CAMPUSES ACROSS THE COUNTRY. Here's Cockburn's teaser for it:

http://counterpunch.org/cockburn01292010.html

Cockburn wrote:Spooks on Campus – and a New Orleans connexion outside Senator Landrieu's office

David Price has a major scoop in our latest subscriber-only newsletter. He describes how, across the past five years, without a word of public debate, let alone concern the CIA, has successfully implanted spy schools on 22 university campuses across the country, many of them labeled "Intelligence Community Centers of Academic Excellence" (ICCAE, pronounced "Icky".) It began in 2004, Price reports, when a $250,000 grant was awarded to Trinity Washington University by the Intelligence Community for the establishment of a pilot "Intelligence Community Center of Academic Excellence" program. Trinity was in many ways an ideal campus for a pilot program. For a vulnerable, tuition-driven struggling financial institution in the D.C. area the promise of desperately needed funds and a regionally assured potential student base, linked with or seeking connections to the DC intelligence world, made the program financially attractive.

Price's timing is impeccable. Last Monday, the day we were preparing to send his story to press, came news that a group of Fox News free-lance buggers - the same who set up ACORN - had been arrested, trying for phone sabotage in Senator Mary Landrieu's New Orleans office. Three of the team were caught inside Landrieu's office. A fourth was arrested as he sat in a car a few blocks away with what the police described as "a listening device that could pick up transmissions." Another anonymous official told MSNBC that the man in the car was Stan Dai. Dai is a veteran of Trinity Washington University's spook school,. funded by the "Intelligence Community". In 2008, Dai served as associate director of ICCAE at Trinity Washington.

How many wannabe Howard Hunts and G. Gordon Liddys are being turned out by the spook schools? As Price writes, “Even amid the extreme militarization prevailing in America today, the public silence surrounding this quiet installation and spread of programs like ICCAE is extraordinary. In the last four years ICCAE has gone further in bringing government intelligence organizations openly to multiple American university campuses than any previous intelligence initiative since World War Two. Yet the program spreads with little public notice, media coverage, or coordinated multi-campus resistance.

Did any tenured faculty member at the 22 campuses now hosting spook-schools publicly raise the alarm? Twenty years ago there would have been furious demonstrations. Not now. Faculty, most notably at the University of Washington, did write anguished, even angry memos. Price quotes them. But as he writes,

"It's far from clear that these private critiques had any measurable effect, precisely because they remained private...
Tenured professors on ICCAE campuses, or on campuses contemplating ICCAE programs, need to use their tenure and speak out, on the record, in public... the split between the public and private reactions to ICCAE has helped usher the CIA silently back onto American university campuses. The intelligence community thrives on silence."

Price can be reached at dprice@stmartin.edu.

I thrives on silence? Nah, I love being loud.

Self-praise time!

me two days ago wrote:FWIW, I think they got caught for real but they're connected to many such operations coming out of the "conservative" thinktank complex. It's practically an industry.

And now it's coming out indeed that these groups are all over the country - with CIA money and no doubt connections to neocon money, as the whole thing started at TRINITY where Dai was. I figure CIA sets up the programs with taxpayer money, then the neocon foundations come in with an assist to "conservative" students who join up with the CIA program and also start "conservative" groups on campus. (I am determined to deny this word to the neocons, since they are actually radicals.) Let's see if any of the other four besides Dai (that is, including Wetmore) were also on campuses that the Price article will name.

Meanwhile...

The outlines of the media assisted cover-up are becoming obvious.

The NYT story of today is designed to delineate the acceptable story for this incident, to wit: It was four jerks overreaching themselves, and maybe they should be punished harshly for it, but there will be no mention of Dai's spooky connections (or those of the other three).

And certainly nothing about how the CIA has set up TWENTY TWO campus groups like Dai's - presumably mostly also connected to the neocon money network and the "conservative" movement - all over the country, or what kind of other dirty tricks they may be engaging in. No, Dai is to be presented as emasculated - his "scared penis" story is what you're supposed to remember about him, not his CIA coven on campus or his "irregular warfare" internship at the Pentagon. The latter is just crazy talk.

Campus Mockingbirds!

You know, as I read this thread, others like it and all the collaborative info and links, the widening backstory, more comprehensive observation of this particular story, I am evermore aware of how completely irrelevant the truth seems to be, to the vast majority, as a very small handful of people ever really get it, and of those who do, they seem to be so marginalized as to the point of meaninglessness. Like a tree falling in the Forrest, does the truth even matter? ...lol

And if it does matter, it seems to be relegated to fringe semi-underground, suspect in the eyes of the Magus establishment, perhaps even targeted for future eviction, eddies such as this. It has just dawned on me how many are completely unaware of these nefarious actions of contempt on a supposedly free people as a grain of sand on a beach of treason. We are so far past the event horizon, of actions done to us in service of cupidity and economic terrorism. A terrorism as completely beautiful as it is flawed, a terrorism, like nothing more than a street corner shakedown, we have been terrorized into being consumers, terrorized into these wars, terrorized into collective Stockholm syndrome...at home and abroad it has to, at some point, to start eating itself.

Catherine Austin Fitts spoke of the economic tapeworm that is feeding on us,-or is it US-, often physically, but what of it that is eating our soul, if indeed we are a part of it? This tulpa we have created.

Yes.

The more we learn, the more we realize how deeply we've been duped, and how ubiquitous the duping is, of everyone, and how successful.

If I start talking about any of this to your average person, they are usually riveted by it. Absolutely riveted. Because, I feel, most people have a sense that they're being lied to, constantly, by almost everyone.

Yet it scares the shit out of them. And it probably should.

Most people don't want to really talk about it in any kind of public way. That would include me, honestly. I don't want to take any chances with my potential employment opportunities (which I completely lack at the moment) by having anyone know how much I know. Because, yes, "knowing" is now radical. Threatening. Scary.

TOPICS Conservative Talking Points Liars
DiggsVillage Voice: 'Independent' Filmmaker James O'Keefe Has A Right-Wing Sugar Daddy
By Susie Madrak Sunday Sep 27, 2009 4:00pm
Imagine that. As I thought, "independent" ACORN filmmaker James O'Keefe has a right-wing sugar daddy - Peter Thiel, one of the founders of PayPal. Via the Village Voice:
James O'Keefe, the activist filmmaker who achieved sudden fame for a series of undercover videos recording ACORN workers, has repeatedly said that he is "absolutely independent" and received no outside funding to make his films.

But the Voice has learned that O'Keefe, in fact, has had heavyweight conservative backers who funded the young filmmaker as recently as a few months before his ACORN films were made.

The ACORN videos are actually just the latest of several films O'Keefe has produced and uploaded to YouTube. An earlier film posted in February, "Taxpayers Clearing House" featured nonwhite, working class people being duped by O'Keefe, who led them to believe they had won money in a sweepstakes.

That video was produced with the help of a grant -- said to be about $30,000 [Thiel's spokesman says closer to $10,000 -- see update] -- from Peter Thiel, one of the founders of PayPal and an early investor in Facebook -- an investment which made him a billionaire. Thiel is one of Silicon Valley's more interesting figures: a gay man (according to Gawker's "Valleywag") who has railed against the evils of "multiculturalism." He lives in San Francisco and today runs a hedge fund.

O'Keefe is now well known as the young man who dressed up as a pimp with a colleague, Townhall.com blogger Hannah Giles, who was dressed like a prostitute. The pair traveled around the country, seeking advice from ACORN workers about how to hide prostitution money for tax purposes. At five of the offices they visited, ACORN workers gave such advice while O'Keefe's hidden camera was rolling. The videos have cost ACORN the support of Congress, the U.S. Census and the White House, and the organization stands to lose tens of millions of dollars in government grants.

O'Keefe, meanwhile, has repeatedly claimed to be financially independent. In an interview with the New York Post shortly after the ACORN videos hit the Internet, O'Keefe claimed to be "absolutely independent." Giles said she had "drained my entire savings" to spend the summer making the undercover videos. O'Keefe estimated his budget at $1,300, and said that Giles had paid for her own plane ticket to California. The couple said they lived off of Power Bars and Subway sandwiches for two months.

But O'Keefe turns out to have a substantial history of being funded by conservative figures.

In February, a video called "Taxpayers Clearing House" was posted to YouTube. In it, O'Keefe and others drive around in a van with a logo on the side that looks like the "Publishers Clearing House" vehicle known for showing up and surprising sweepstakes winners with oversized checks. In O'Keefe's video, working class Blacks are shown jumping up and down in excitement - until they learn that O'Keefe is actually delivering a bill for $28,000, their share of the federal banks bailout.

O'Keefe told a friend, Liz Farkas, that he had approached Thiel with the idea for the video, and had walked away with "approximately $30,000" to produce it.

Farkas told the New York Times this week that she and O'Keefe, who met at Rutgers University, clashed over publishing incomplete transcripts from another sting involving an abortion provider.

Through a representative, Peter Thiel confirmed that he had funded "Taxpayers Clearing House" through a "small-government group," but denied having any involvement with the ACORN videos. The representative says Thiel first learned of the new O'Keefe videos after they hit the Internet, and having "watched them on YouTube...he shares the view that taxpayer money should not promote human trafficking."

Shock tactics: Knocking at the door of black families with what look like giant sweepstakes checks. Hilarity ensues when they find out they've been duped. For an additional punchline, maybe someone can drop dead of an infarct.

The depth of this asshole seems to have no limits.

BIG PICTURE SO FAR:

CIA campus stations (taxpayer money)
+ neocon thinktank money (tax deductible)
+ "conservative" movement mojo (anti-abortion/Christianist footsoldiers)
+ sense of utter entitlement in the means adopted, thanks in part to...
+ the delusion that the "liberals" are waging total war on white men
-------------------------------------
SERIOUS CLUSTERFUCK OF POLITICAL DISRUPTION CELLS AROUND THE COUNTRY

Now contemplate this:
+ removal of all limits on political spending by corporations.
+ prior removal of accounting regulations on CIA contractors (due to "War on Terror")
+ recent removal of accounting regulations on banks (due to "Financial Crisis")
--------------------------------------
ON THE WAY TO THE MOST FIXED ELECTION IN HISTORY - 2010

Mr. Paypal-Facebook Billionaire need no longer reach into his own pocket. He can fund these kinds of sick psyop projects through his companies as legitimate business expenses, and assuming he's got the right kind of dispensation thanks to "national security" or "financial crisis," legally do it off the books.

Nixon's CREEPs wouldn't recognize this world. They'd think it was an impossible Utopia.

http://www.zoominfo.com/Search/Referenc ... =228208485

from ben wetmore's (forgive me if i call him "pissboy" from now on) zoominfo page.
the SFLA situation has already been pointed out. is it a standard intelligence trick to establish multiple IDs with similar
traits? can we surmise that these might possibly all be cia front organizations? i've heard they like to keep the names similar to avoid confusion.

anyway, check out this entry:
"www.studentsforlife.org/wp/2007/03/26/dissident-media-a - [Cached Version]

Published on: 1/1/2007 Last Visited: 7/29/2007
SFLA Chairman Ben Wetmore went last Thursday to The American University and spoke to a class on "Dissident

Media".Ben was the former Director of Student Publications at the Leadership Institute, and spoke specifically about the

North Dakota Veritas and the UCLA Advocate. "

what are the "north dakota veritas" and the ucla advocate".
are they right wing campus publications or organizations?
recall the initial comments by o'keefe after being arrested:
"A good general update:

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20100127/ap_ ... ce_arrests

I especially liked his comments to the press:

Excerpt -----

As O'Keefe left jail Tuesday with Dai and Basel, he said only

"Veritas," Latin for truth.

As he got into a cab outside, O'Keefe said, "The truth shall set

me free."
End ----

================

It struck me as rather "cultish" speak for some reason when I

read it. A real "True Believer"."

so is VERITAS some code word or are they just trying to sound edjeecated?
anyone know about north dakota Veritas or ucla advocate?
could this refer to one of the 22 campus spy cells that were set up?

Second half of Voice article has more:

Thiel, who co-runs the Founders Fund, is a hedge fund manager, web entrepreneur and venture capitalist worth $1.2 billion. Fortune magazine referred to him as the "don" of "the Pay Pal Mafia." Thiel is also co-author of The Diversity Myth: 'Multiculturalism' and the Politics of Intolerance at Stanford. He was also co-founding editor of the conservative Stanford Review and was a member of the Federalist Society, the conservative legal circle that has included Clarence Thomas, Robert Bork and Antonin Scalia.

"Is the new consciousness about race, gender, and sexual preference really the antidote to America's problems or a cause of them?" Thiel's book asks in its introduction. Another representative quote: "Multiculturalists like thinking of themselves as victims far too much to want to end their victimization. They need their imaginary oppressors to
give their lives meaning."

Thiel's book does not spare homosexuality. "Much [homosexual] behavior is being conducted in public, for the express purpose of shocking and offending others. The shock is then called 'homophobia' and is used as evidence of the oppression and victimization of homosexuals." The book (published in 1995) argues against Stanford instituting domestic partner benefits, complaining "even in purely economic terms, the costs are substantial...The end result is something of a random scrambling of people into "relationships," all claiming the right to live off of everyone else."

Though Thiel denies directly funding O'Keefe's latest videos, Thiel may have made them financially possible anyway. O'Keefe has, in the past, used support from one project to fuel another.

O'Keefe is a former member of the Leadership Institute, the conservative think tank that has turned out such graduates as Bush strategist Karl Rove, Christian Coalition leader Ralph Reed, Senator Mitch McConnell (R-Kentucky), Americans for Tax Reform President Grover Norquist, and "Talon News" fake White House blogger Jeff Gannon (real name: James Dale Guckert). The Institute has been involved in setting up conservative newspapers at colleges across the country, and gave O'Keefe a $500 "Balance in Media" grant to begin the Rutgers Centurion in 2005.

On his personal blog (quoted at Daily Kos, O'Keefe has taken the original link down), O'Keefe thanks "LI" for a $4,000 monitor to help him make his movies.

In the same way O'Keefe used equipment from the Leadership Institute to make his future films, he may have made use of Thiel's cash infusion for future projects, too. The "Taxpayers Clearing House" video that Thiel's money made possible was posted just a few months before O'Keefe and Giles set off on their summer adventure. The multiple ACORN videos were shot and produced over the course of more than two months, in San Diego, San Bernardino, Brooklyn, Baltimore and Washington, D.C. (plus an unknown number of other cities, like Philadelphia, where O'Keefe attempted to shoot but the sting failed).

O'Keefe declined to be interviewed by phone for this article, and did not respond to e-mailed questions. But he has not publicly explained how the help he's received from either the Leadership Institute or from Peter Thiel has influenced his filmmaking -- or how they may have made a summer traveling around the country for undercover stings possible.

UPDATE: Thiel's spokesman, James O'Neill, disputes Farkas' estimate of $30,000, saying that Thiel's contribution was only "about $10,000."

Whoot!! I've been very impressed with the news stories coming from VeteransToday.com ...

SENATE BURGLARY: CIA DOMESTIC BLACK-OP TEAM ARRESTED
January 30, 2010 by Gordon Duff

Image

ALL 4 INVOLVED IN SENATE HOMELAND SECURITY BREAKIN CIA “N-O-C” AGENTS
CIA PROGRAM MAY HAVE TRAINED DOMESTIC “DEATH SQUADS”
By Gordon Duff STAFF WRITER/Senior Editor

Last week’s breakin at Senator Mary Landrieu’s office in the New Orleans Federal Building was more than it seemed, much more. All of the 4 arrested had been trained by the CIA and, possibly, Israel. One arrested, Stan Dai, is listed as an Operations Officer of the Department of Defense Irregular Warfare Program and a known expert and lecturer on, not only surveillance but explosives training, assassinations and “false flag operations.” If you wanted a plane to crash, an enemy to get sick and die or a building to blow up, Dai would be the man to know how to make it happen. Problem is, his skills were being used as part of a criminal conspiracy inside the United States against members of our own government.

Original reports on the “break-in” were also wrong. One of those arrested was found blocks away with a covert receiver, managing the office bugs. The man in the car is identified as Stan Dai, Operations Officer for the Department of Defense Irregular Warfare Program:

“one of the four was arrested with a listening device in a car blocks from the senator’s offices.” The FBI’s affidavit noted that Flanagan and Basel were in the building with O’Keefe, and a federal law enforcement official confirmed to AP that Dai was the one in the car.”

What is not initially known is whether this was the first attempt or, as is much more likely, an additional incursion to plant new bugs as the ones in place were missing key conversations. Also, it is not known how many “black ops” crews are being run by the CIA inside the United States in violation of their charter or if their operations are being limited to spying on Democratic lawmakers or if operations of a more threatening nature have been performed but remain undiscovered.

Additionally, as this was a covert op against US government investigations of, not only terrorism and terrorism funding but major financial crimes against the United States, it is unclear who the recipient of the “product,” an intelligence industry term for “output” or information put up for “distribution” might be. Potential buyers could be the Republican Party, Israel, Turkey, India, Russia, China, Venezuela, North Korea or financial institutions involved in massive money laundering schemes being investigated by the Senate’s Committee on Homeland Security of which Senator Landireu is a member.

Learn how the Intelliegence Community Center for Academic Excellence (IC CAE) at Georgetown University and the CIA got involved in this seedy domestic “black ops” group. In a story broken this week:

Dai’s links to the intelligence community appear to be particularly strong. He was a speaker at Georgetown University’s Central Intelligence Agency summer school program in June 2009, and is also listed as an Assistant Director at the Intelligence Community Center of Academic Excellence at Trinity in D.C. (note the parallels between the Georgetown program tied to “conservative think tanks” and the GWU program with similar ties and the same characters where we trace Dr. Hasan, Ft Hood mass murderer to)

The university’s president Patricia McGuire told The Associated Press that it promoted careers in intelligence but denied that it trains students to be spies. (a seemingly meaningless statement considering what has happened)

The Trinity program received a “$250,000 renewable grant from the U.S. Intelligence Community” upon launching in 2004, according to its Web site. The program’s goals are stated:

The IC CAE in National Security Studies Program was established during 2005 in response to the nation’s increasing need for IC professionals who are educated and trained with the unique knowledge, skills and capabilities to carry out America’s national security objectives.

The CIA summer school packet also notes that Dai “served as the Operations Officer of a Department of Defense irregular warfare fellowship program.”

Dai has been an undergraduate fellow with the Washington-based national security think tank Foundation for the Defense of the Democracies (FDD), according to his College Leadership Program award biography at the Phillips Foundation — as Lindsay Beyerstein first reported.

FDD claims that it’s partly funded by the US State Department. Its Leadership Council and Board of Advisers comprise many high-profile conservative politicians and public figures — including former House speaker Newt Gingrich, Sen. Joseph Lieberman (I-CT), Weekly Standard editor William Kristol, Rep. Eric Cantor (R-VA), former Bush official Richard Perle and columnist Charles Krauthammer.

Operatives recruited in universities and managed thru conservative think tanks receive paid “vacations” to Israel and elsewhere, places where they are trained in silent killing, use of poisons, explosives and other potentially useful skills whether their career is in intelligence or politics. As with other terrorist suspects such as those who travel to Afghanistan for their training, these domestic types are funded covertly through the US government but, as we see in New Orleans, rented out to either Israel, India or the Republican party.

This history of this program parallels one from the Nixon administration after the Vietnam War. CIA recruiters subsidized hundreds, perhaps several thousand veterans, Marines, Special Forces and Army Rangers who served in unofficial and semi-official capacities in and out of the US. Some serve to this day. Today’s, if current bio’s are any indication, depend more on ideology than physical bravery or intellectual qualifications. Perhaps the “purity” test left little room for battle hardened veterans who might choose country over party and loyalty over cash.

In a “clarification” of how Israel is involved and sees their cooperation in this domestic terror organization as part of their support of the United States as a trusted ally, we received the following story:

Dai traveled to Israel for two weeks in 2004 on an FDD (Foundation for the Defense of the Democracies, a conservative Washington based “think tank” with CIA ties) -sponsored trip, the Daily Herald reported. “All expenses (room, board and travel) will be assumed by FDD,” FDD’s Web site said of its Israel program.

A host of FDD testimonials from Academic Fellows reveal that many fellows have traveled to Israel for training and field trips. The Foundation says the course includes “lectures by academics, diplomats, military and intelligence officials, and politicians from Israel, Jordan, India, Turkey and the United States.”

FDD proclaims that “Like America, Israel is at the forefront in the war on terrorism.” Further explaining its interest in Israel, FDD declares:

“Both the United States and Israel are democracies, and both face the same enemy. It is this connection between Israel’s experience and the future of the United States that is the essence of the Foundation for the Defense of Democracies.”

One FDD testimonial, by 2004-2005 fellow Dr. Cathal J. Nolan, highlighted the group’s bond with high-level intelligence and government officials in Israel:

“The access which FDD provided to top government officials–and to academic, police, security service, and intelligence experts at the highest levels–was truly remarkable. I know of no other foundation or fellowship program which is able to provide so much top-level access and first-hand intelligence and security service information in so compact a form, or in such an intellectually stimulating environment.”

No explanation was offered as to how this “stimulating environment” managed to foster attacks on high security government offices, filled with vital intelligence. If Israel and the United States face the same enemy, why is Israel training Americans to attack America? One can’t help but see parallels between “junkets” to Israel for “intelligence training” and Islamic militants who go to Afghanistan for “terrorist” training.

How few Islamic terrorists would we catch if they were aided by Washington “think tanks,” guided by the Department of Defense or funded by the CIA?

Last week, Veterans Today outlined the many high security projects being monitored from Senator Landrieu’s office which included, not only terrorist money laundering and other security issues but investigations targeting tens of billions of dollars being hidden offshore illegally by Americans, many with ties to Israel. The projects subject to spying by this CIA/Israeli operation are, among others: (source: Department of Homeland Security and the United States Senate)

SENATE HOMELAND SECURITY COMMITTEE

Current hearings held by the Senate Homeland Security Committee chaired by Landireu, hearings subject to this espionage attack involve:

Intelligence reform in the aftermath of the Christmas terrorist attack
Overviews of contracting corruption in Afghanistan
Planning for securing America’s diplomats around the world
The Terrorist Reform and Terrorist Prevention Act (IRTPA)
Investigating the root causes of the Ft. Hood attack
Securing America from financial crimes
America’s Defense from Cyber Attack
Development plans for “post surge” Afghanistan
Current investigations by the Sub-Committee on Investigations are:

Speculation in trading and how it effects national security
How US banks help overseas corporation dodge US taxes
Report on Tax Havens hiding billions from the IRS
Massive abuses of government credit cards by employees
Ending “offshore secrecy” to allow the US to recover billions in tax shortfall
Shell Oil credit card interest abuses
Medicaid abuse and equipment overcharges
Billions in unpaid taxes on Medicaid income by American doctors
Speculation in the energy markets costing American consumers billions a year
Failures in United Nations reform, waste and corruption
Speculation and manipulation that controls and rigs crude oil and gasoline markets
and many many more
9/11

The Senate HSC is responsible for implementing all intelligence reforms resulting from the findings of the 9/11 commission especially in light of continued failures as demonstrated by the Ft. Hood tragedy and the Detroit terror attack.
Current contracting oversight responsibilities:

Overseeing all USAID reconstruction contracts in Afghanistan
Investigating massive corruption tied to the US Embassy in Kabul
Overseeing all US contractors used in Iraq, Afghanistan and around the world in regard to corrupt practices and cost overruns
Detecting and Prosecuting Contractor Fraud
No information has been given as to how Federal authorities came to break up this terrorist operation but we are told that informants inside the CIA still loyal to the United States were involved. The arrest of Dai, a highly trained operative blocks away from the scene opens a number of scenarios.

With much of the CIA’s former leadership now employed by Blackwater/Xe, a company owned and controlled by Republican party leadership, the lines between domestic and foreign intelligence operations have become blurred. “CIA agents” killed in Afghanistan recently may all have been Blackwater/Xe employees, some or all former CIA operatives seeking the higher salaries of the private security industry. Has the CIA become “interchangable” with a mercenary group tied to a political party and available for hire by anyone with enough money? The deteriorating security sitiuation in Afghanistan and Pakistan gives creedence to this hypothesis.

The use of forces designated only to be used against American enemies outside the United States against elected officials of our own government, possibly on behalf of an unfriendly foreign government, is a total indictment of the usefulness of our entire intelligence community. Attempts to centralize intelligence resources only tied those resources to individuals whose political ideologies surpassed loyalty to the United States or were superceded by moral flexibility, so often the case with politicians, now popularly described under the term “situational narcissism.” (believing one’s position places one above any moral code or ethical standard)

Significant polarization within the political community during the Bush administration encouraged members of the intelligence community to look on members of the opposition political party as terrorist sympathizers. We are told that many members of the military and intelligence community may be actively involved in “extracurricular” activities, freelancing for individuals no longer in government. Those co-opted by extremist views are vulnerable to ploys from foreign intelligence agencies who represent themselves as part of “right thinking” or “conservative” patriotic groups.

This is a common ploy, developed long ago by the KGB in the Soviet Union and now SOP, (Standard Operating Proceedure) for agencies of friend and foe alike.

It is now a subject for a legitimate investigation as are such “accidents” as the Ohio plane crash that killed Mike Connell, GOP “vote rigging” guru who asked for police protection from Karl Rove tied to rigging the 2004 Presidential Election. Connell’s family believes his death was murder. US Senators, investigative reporters, whistleblowing scientists, “girlfriends” and so many other categories seem to die in numbers well beyond any actuarial table.

We are already spending billions of dollars a year hunting foreign terrorists that threaten the United States. Do we need to double this and go on a “witch hunt” within our own agencies, the ones we entrust with our own security? There is only one answer: Yes, of course we must. We may not have a few “bad apples,” we may have a diseased orchard.
