After a relatively cold October and November here in the mid Atlantic region, December has been feeling pretty warm. I would say that about 14 out of the last 21 days here have been foggy, with the fog not lifting throughout the entire day in some cases. It may seem like a trite observation, but it's unusual enough to be notable for this area and must be tied in with the warmth.

I can't wait to see what the data says globally for 2012. It is assuredly the hottest year on record, but will almost definitely be an extreme outlier — not just "slightly warmer," but significantly so.

Nah, weather isn't climate, and regional isn't global, the lack of increased global warming since 1996/7 continues, 2012 presently looks like running in at about 8th warmest.

Australian Forecasters Add New Colors to Temperature Charts to Capture Record Heat

Australia’s Bureau of Meteorology has added purple and pink colors to its temperature charts to mark new levels of extreme heat (54 degrees Celsius is 129.2 degrees Fahrenheit). This is a closeup of the scale on the temperature map.

How hot is it in Australia?

It’s so hot that the government weather agency added two new colors — deep purple and pink — to temperature charts to convey the new record highs being measured in the worst heat wave ever recorded down under, as The Age newspaper reported today.

For the moment, while extreme and widespread heat is predicted to persist, the country looks to be avoiding the new purple zone.

NASA accused of promoting gay climate change agenda

The National Aeronautical Space Administration is facing the heat from Republicans who accuse it of pushing a pro-gay climate change agenda by adding the color hot pink to its global climate maps. NASA made the change because of unusually warm weather in the arctic.

“I can handle a variety of colors. We tolerated their use of yellow and a couple of blue-purple knockoffs that I don’t even know the names of, even lime green is ok in moderation, but now this agency has gone too far,” said Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn). “First NASA tried to shove climate change down our throats. Now they’re using it to push acceptance of the homosexual lifestyle.”

The agency originally used 12 colors to show temperature anomalies of plus or minus 6 degrees Celsius. NASA administrator Charles Bolden said the recent arctic winter was more than 10 degrees Celsius (18 Fahrenheit) warmer than usual, requiring the addition of a new color to its palette.

“I know some say hot pink clashes with the color scheme already in place but frankly I think it provides a nice accent,” Bolden said. “It really catches the eye and draws you into the map. It’s like the throw pillow of the weather world.”

I prefer to think of climate change and the symptoms of it as simply being quite tolerant and certainly all inclusive. It does seem to fancy Australia though, at least currently.

I think we need a new scale for stupid as well as for temp., and Rep. Michele Bachmann, leading AGW denier in US House of Reps, deserves to be on it.
