I'm surprised they even let this topic be discussed. Is RI on the list of "sites that cannot be named" at DU? So phunny, these sites are so bad that the rules won't even mention which ones are restricted. I've included a couple of the coomments.

What is the "site that shall not be named", and why is there a site which shall not be named on DU?
We're allowed to mention and even link to the freepers.

What gives?

2. There are three, and we do not name them.

Restrictions on Linking to Other Websites

Do not post messages that give publicity to websites that have little purpose other than to smear, disrupt, or complain about Democratic Underground. Currently there are only three websites that fall into this category. Their addresses are not listed here because we do not wish to give them publicity. They are easily identified by their bizarre obsession with Democratic Underground.

30. Three? I thought there was one?
Have they been fighting amongst themselves and forming splinter groups?

Some people just can't get along with anyone.

The site that cannot be named is specifically Progressive Independent.

However there are numerous sites that the DU considers to be off-limits. Some of those include Antiwar.com, Rense, BlackAgenda, Counterpunch (every other Thursday) and many others that "any reasonable person" would know to be a taboo site. Ultimately this "Democratic" institute uses the most base of censorial mechanisms as it leaves the topic of "allowable" sites in the dark and will thump you out if you don't adhere to the unwritten rules.

Same to be said for topics of importance that cannot be discussed, which nowadays is much larger than those that can. Put up a post about Conspiracy, Fluoride, Palestine, AIDS Origins and on and on and you will be dealt with harshly.

What is the pattern, I wonder? And what is behind it? Which things are off limits and why?

People that toss around the word 'gatekeeper' here don't know what the hell they're talking about.

DU's good for some LBN and that's about it. Trying to talk about anything there's about as fun as clapping with one hand.

Here's what gives: your master, $kinner, forbids you from mentioning this site on DU, because he knows what's best ....

But I do believe overall their purpose is a pretty good one and their effectiveness cannot be denied in many respects.

I cannot post there as I was banned after being impostored by Freepers during the 2004 election night free for all.

I suspect that prosemite undercover may also be on that list of "hashem" which cannot be named.

But the main culprit is PI.

I think it is an overreaction on DU's part. ut disruptors and black operators abound all over these boards.

So I can also see not feeding into it at all.

At PI I have been forbidden from discussing my "dialogue" with PSU.

Trying to build bridges in the progrressive community, expecially with those we disagree with, is important.

I think Jeff has done this well and I don't believe RI is on that list.
