Chloroform, Caylee, a suicide attempt and paternity (oh my)

George Anthony, the grandfather of murdered Caylee Anthony -- and the last person other than Casey to see the little girl alive -- supposedly tried to kill himself today in a Daytona motel. This report says he was found okay, with an 8-page suicide note where he tells his wife she "could do better than him," according to MSNBC.

Investigators said the eight-page note indicated George Anthony was at the end of his rope, and that once he was gone, his family would have a better life. He wrote about how strong his daughter, Casey Anthony, is and said he doesn't believe she hurt her daughter, Caylee. However, he did make dark, veiled references to his daughter's friends.
George Anthony also wrote in the letter that his wife, Cindy, could do better than him. He also wrote about his son, Lee Anthony.
This latest drama in the story of the murdered little girl smells. That he would write an 8-page suicide note indicates to me that he's more interested in persuasion than in killing himself. Or, maybe he really did feel it was time for his final exit, but wanted to spin his death.
This turn has the same whiff of stagecraft as Jon Benet Ramsey's Mother's ransom note. It was public relations.
Who, other than Snidely Whiplash, would have chloroform handy for use as a nefarious sedative? Benedryl I can understand. Normal people have Benedryl in their medicine cabinets. Who has chloroform sitting around? What's the advantage of chloroform over say, Benedryl? That it works immediately? While the child is in your arms?
Reading in the Orlando Sentinel, I'm reminded that George was likely the last person to see Caylee alive. It's between him and Casey. One or the other or both saw her for the last time. So, what's his deal?
George Anthony, a former Ohio sheriff's deputy, once worked in car sales with his family. He moved to Orlando in the late 1980s with his wife and children to the home on Hopespring Drive. He has worked intermittently as a security guard, but injuries prevented him from working steadily, according to court records.
George Anthony was the last person, other than his daughter, to see Caylee Marie alive. On June 16, Casey Anthony and her 2-year-old daughter left the family home around noon. Caylee was never seen alive again.
And, why does a sheriff's deputy become an intermittent security guard/car salesman? What happened?
And who the hell is/was Caylee's father? The DNA test showed it wasn't the fiance. So, who?
Sunny wrote some time ago that there was more to the grandfather than meets the eye, and I think that's spot on. I regret that I haven't followed this story more closely, as I live right across the Greenway from their neighborhood. I've avoided it on purpose, I guess. I'm so tired of Florida being the creep capital of the world.
