^^^At first I thought I thought the photo was faked--it looks like Obama's head was pasted on (but I guess he's worked hard for his swelled head). Here he is, the real fake Obama, conning & slurring w/the gang.

A great disappointment, after all. People focused upon his Chicago connections, but the wrong ones.

It is all true, and I just used the Branson photo as evidence (thanks) but it is absolutely reckless to make light of the fascist turn.

Nothing "reckless" whatsoever about noticing that it is no kind of a "turn" whatsoever. It is more of the blatantly obvious and exhaustively recorded same - wholly predictable and predicted by thousands if not millions, decades ago. Neither you nor I imagined the Homeland Security and Patriot Acts, to name but two relative trivial turns that occurred seventeen whole years ago.

Can it get worse? Of course it can get worse, much worse. Unlettered Cambodians could have told us that in 1970. The worst is not, so long as we can say, this is the worst.

Forget JFK, MLK & RFK if you must. What the fuck do you think actually happened on and after 9/11?

Oil company execs don't owe him any gratitude; he fulfilled his end of the bargain just as they did their end by helping make him president. As long as he doesn't get too uppity (or richer than them.)

I totally imagined and as a matter of fact I knew about Homeland Security years before 9/11. It was an academic field already 10 years earlier, and the basic gist was what you saw develop in the federal department, once that was created in 2002. I was also following martial law and military rule scenarios for the U.S. dating back to the 1950s. I have been following political-economic developments of state and capitalism my whole life and as you say, it not only can get worse but has gotten worse in ways that are systemic and therefore can be followed and foreseen, also potentially counteracted. Developments often involve emergences of evils that were previously inherent, contained, or predictable, but not yet immanent. I'm sure to use the European analogy you would see something new in the success of Le Pen, AfD, and the various Eastern European far-right parties now in power, etc., compared to the already highly anti-immigrant and neoliberal European policies of the 1990s. In the U.S. case I refuse to make light of what Trump embodies and has in fact embodied for the four decades I have been subjected to him as a "celebrity" presence, or to ignore the dire circumstance that his tenure enacts a blatant ideologically fascist performance with a lot of virulent popular backing and threats of mass violence. I will not engage in the brainless apologetics of a C.J. Hopkins and say nothing more to you than to suggest you should not mock the current fascistic turn, however much prior developments may have been horrible (and worse for those on the receiving end of bombings) and describable in similar vocubalaries. Having answered what you wrote, I hope I am allowed to bow out of this thread again without having to be lectured further about things I didn't say and don't believe.

You did not answer what I wrote any more than I ever mentioned, much less defended or praised, CJ bloody Hopkins, whose effortfully "satirical" shtick irritates me as least as much as irritates you, so don't drag his irrelevant name in here as a rhetorical wet towel to beat me with. It doesn't hurt, because it makes no contact.

Such rhetorical feints are or should be beneath you, just as it should be beneath you to drag in your impeccably antifascist pre-2001 CV as some kind of purported knockdown argument against the suggestion that Trump does not represent any kind of radical break (or "turn") from the American project of the last fifty-five years at least, and especially the last two decades.

Ask the 96%-non-American humans on this planet, perhaps starting with the Cambodians, the Vietnamese or the Laotians, or the Congolese, or the Haitians or the Panamanians, or the Chileans, or anyone in South America, or indeed anyone in Russia. And this is to say not one word about the mainly-Muslim countries utterly destroyed, under the fucking Democratic Party too, since the Great Enabling Act of 2001. (Whatever happened to the War on Terror, by the way? Will that continue beyond our lifetimes, as Cheney promised? I think we should be told, at least before the New War on Ivan goes hot.)

None of those humans give the merest damn about Trump's orangenness, or his tiny-handedness, or his bad hair, or his allegedly unparalleled vulgarity, sexism and racism. They have other things to worry about, such as keeping their families alive under the cutthroat barbarity sold to them as freedom by blackmailing salesmen more slickly Presidential than Trump. Nor are those billions shocked, shocked, by the current office-holder's repulsive associates, or by his simply unprecedented interest in (whisper it) money, however filthily acquired, or by his unwillingness or inability to control or limit the CIA and the Pentagon and the corporations in their ongoing and highly successful joint endeavour to eat the planet and shit it out and make everyone else eat the shit. That's precisely as disgusting as it sounds - that's fascism, and fascism rampant and unchallenged - but the 96% have been experiencing that agenda for many decades now and they're used to it. They've seen it all before.

That Trump is a problem for Americans is undeniable, especially for the kind of Americans who think SNL, CNN, MSNBC, Keith Olbermann, Hillary Clinton and the fucking Democratic Party represent any kind of opposition or (jfc) #Resistance to the fascist agenda they have willingly, no, enthusiastically (but, admittedly, often more photogenically) been pushing for decades now. They are having trouble selling that crap even to their fellow Americans now, at long last.

So, yes, fuck Obama and all who sail in him and sentimentalise his so-called "legacy", just as they are now sentimentalising the "legacy" of the fucking Bush Dynasty.

As Gabor Mate said recently: "People tell me Trump is destroying Obama's legacy. No, he's maintaining it."

2019:
The ’heartbreaking‘ decrease in black homeownership

Racism and rollbacks in government policies are taking their toll.

By Troy McMullen

February 28, 2019

Vanessa Bulnes and her husband, Richard, bought their house on 104th Avenue in East Oakland, Calif., in 1992.

The modest two-bedroom property is where they lived for 20 years, raising three children, and where Vanessa made a living running an in-home day-care center. Neighbors in the mostly African American community often saw her planting vegetables in the backyard, with her kids in tow.

After Richard had a stroke in 2008, reducing the couple to a single income, they fell behind on their mortgage and eventually lost their home to foreclosure. A years-long legal effort to refinance the loan on the property failed, and in 2012, the couple were forced to move into a nearby rental home, where they live today.

The Bulneses’ plight echoes one that plagued many American families in the wake of the housing collapse, when foreclosure rates soared. But black families were hit particularly hard, housing data show, forcing many out of their homes and pushing black homeownership rates to record lows.

Oh this is rich, a clip from the annual “Obama Foundation Summit” on Tuesday. Thank you Michelle, for explaining your more hidden motive as to why you and Barrack so brazenly settled in exclusive Washington quarters while most of D.C.’s poorer black population can no longer afford to live in their city. What fucking hypocrites, the Obamas, and fuck them for their betrayal of black Americans.

Barack Obama warned in private conversations that Joe Biden 'doesn't have it' and said he'd step in to stop Bernie Sanders getting the 2020 Democratic nomination
By KATELYN CARALLE, U.S. POLITICAL REPORTER FOR DAILYMAIL.COM

Barack Obama has privately indicated he doesn't have faith his former vice president could win the Democratic nomination in 2020.

In a meeting with a Democratic primary candidate, Obama pointed out that during his 2008 campaign, he had an intimate bond with the electorate, especially in Iowa, that he no longer has, according to a Politico Magazine report published Tuesday.

'And you know who really doesn't have it?' he posed to the candidate. 'Joe Biden.'

The former president has been holding a series of private meetings with Democratic 2020 hopefuls, the report details, exhibiting that Obama is more involved in the primary race than publicly indicated.

Of those who Obama has met with, only two – Biden and recently entered candidate Deval Patrick – know the former president on a more person, rather than professional level

He only knows two candidates on a more personal level: Biden and former Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick, who only entered the race earlier this month.

Outside of speaking candidly about the candidates' strengths and weaknesses, Obama usually has three points he likes to get across in the private advice sessions, Politico noted.

He tells them not to run if they don't think they are the best person to be president, to make sure they understand how running a presidential campaign will affect their family, and he tells them to ask themselves, 'Can you win?'

Polls indicate is the most popular Democrat in American, and his support would mean a ton for any of the 19 candidates still vying for the nomination – but he hasn't yet endorsed a candidate or gave any indication if and when he will announce that.

In public, Obama has asserted that he won't intervene in the primary race to help or hurt a candidate unless he feels there was some heinous attack.

'I can't even imagine with this field how bad it would have to be for him to say something,' an adviser close to Obama said.

The one exception to potential intervention seems to be with Bernie Sanders – a self described Democratic socialist.

When Sanders appeared to be a bigger threat than he is now – when he and Biden were both earning around 25 per cent support in polls – Obama said in private that he would speak up to prevent Sanders from winning the Democratic nomination.

Despite this, Sanders was one of the candidates who visited Obama for campaign advice.

Noticeably absent from the meetings at Obama's office were Hawaii Representative Tulsi Gabbard and tech entrepreneur Andrew Yang – both candidates who fall within the top 10 of 19 running

A spokesperson for Obama said the former Democratic president would support whoever won the primary election.

Obama has met with a slew of candidate from the crowded field, which made its way back up to 19 candidates this month with Deval Patrick and billionaire Mike Bloomberg's announcement.

Noticeably absent from the pilgrimage to Obama's office on the northwest side of Washington D.C. are Hawaii Representative Tulsi Gabbard and tech entrepreneur Andrew Yang, who both fall within the top 10 candidates.

Obama indicating that Biden doesn't 'have it,' especially in early voting states, could be his steadily declining poll numbers, increase in gaffes and ties to the genesis of the impeachment probe into Trump.

Recently, South Bend, Indiana Mayor Pete Buttigieg has soared in early primary and caucus states – surging to first place in a recent poll in Iowa, the first caucus, and another poll in New Hampshire, the first primary state.

Buttigieg is among the list of candidates who have paid a visit to Obama.

Also included in that list are Massachusetts Senator Elizabeth Warren, California Senator Kamala Harris, New Jersey Senator Cory Booker and former Texas Representative Beto O'Rourke, who dropped out of the race at the beginning of November.
