Taos Hum

Postby Cordelia » Tue Nov 03, 2009 1:58 pm

Maybe there's a thread somewhere else on this site and if so, please direct me to it. If not, does anyone 'experience' the 'Taos Hum'? www.eskimo.com/~billb/hum/hum.html

I've been hearing it for years. It's often described as sounding like a diesel engine; to me, the best way I can describe it is that it sounds like a far away truck approaching, but it never arrives.

Anybody else (or know of anyone)?

Edited to add: It's heard all over the world--I'm nowhere near Taos.

Has anyone been around thousands of 17 year cicadas? That is the exact sound in my head, not quite that loud but, always there, at night it is really hard to ignore.

Yes. I think it was worse a few years ago for me than it is now... a very sensitive friend in town first began to describe the nightly sound of a phantom diesel truck idling down the street, and hypothesized that it was HAARP, GWEN or something else similarly sinister. He's had a fair amount of terrible things happen to him, with physical evidence, but that's not my story to tell.

But I haven't, to my knowledge, had any such terrible things happen, but I too have noticed the low-pitched hum at night, sometimes I would wake up hearing it. I also have tinitus (chronic ringing in the ears) which fades up to a roar if I focus on it and fades down into background noise if I focus elsewhere. That started when I was a young teen.

The weird thing about this is the distinction I gained during my first week spent out of the USA down in Cancun, Mexico. I began to realize towards the end of the trip that I wasn't hearing the low-pitched hum, and I swear I noticed a distinct lack of ringing in my ears, so perhaps tinitus is merely a phenomenological description rather than a name for the cause or explanation (since the definition of tinitus includes idiopathy in most cases).

I don't know what to make of this at all. I suspect they're performing mass mind control experimentation using ELF waves, perhaps using the GWEN tower network, cellphone towers, HAARP (both Gakona, AK and other similar major and minor installations), in order to effect overall mood changes in the populace. It would stand to reason that a variety of frequencies, waveforms, propagation mediums, geographic areas, neuro-demographic groups, and target moods/thoughts/brainwave patterns would be experimented and reported upon.

You'd think mass media memetic engineering would be enough to crescendo the zeitgeist whenever convenient, but perhaps they've detected a growing immunity or ineffectiveness, perhaps just amongst us new-media types... or perhaps they require more precise control in their psychotronic weaponization efforts...

Or could we be hearing an octave of the Schumann Resonance, which has been changing along with the spinning-coin-on-the-floor effect of Chandler's Wobble (in the planet's axial rotation) slowing to cessation last spring.

Plausible deniabiliy sucks. Where does that leave the rigorously intuitive on such an unusual but widespread shared-subjective experience?

Yes. Tinnitus? It can be really bad on some days, other days it's gone.

seamslikeadream, that must be awful (for me, the 'hum' is clearly outside my head, heard almost 24/7, but very low level so I can easily ignore it; for others it's very distressing). But, since I deal with a chronic pain challenge, I also wonder about other physical implications.

Whatever it is, and even though very few people actually hear 'The Hum', it seems like a lot of people audibly experience (inside or outside their heads), something......some kind of nefarious meddling or experimentation that can't be explained. And whether or not it's heard or sensed, probably everyone is impacted.

Same here - at one point it got to feel like my ears will filled with cotton as though in response to an irritation. I went to the doctor and he found nothing wrong but recommended that I go to a specialist if it persisted for a few more weeks. My ears did "pop" a week or so later - but I still have a high-pitched cicada sound that is sometimes more noticeable than others. the doctor didn't seem concerned or curious. He had the same lack of concern when I told him about my sleep-paralysis. god knows how many symptoms or events go unnoticed by the medical profession because they don't fit within the standard diagnostic charts.

This started slowly over the last few years, it doesn't feel like it's coming from the outside. At first it affected both ears but seems to have settled in one ear.

I haven't looked into it much but my understanding is that it can be hard to find the causes. I don't have much money for endless tests after having blown my stash on other med expenses, but if you learn more let me know.

Yea, about a year and a 1/2 ago the ringing started in both ears and now it's just in my right ear, the volume of the ringing comes and goes, but it doesn't feel like it affects my overall hearing unless it's real loud, but that's temporary.

So, is the ringing related to the Taos Hum?

That seems to be around the time mine started.
I don't think it's the Taos Hum, but I'm not sure it's 'only' Tinitus either.

Southern California.

It was one day and my ears were ringing, or more accurately I noticed for the first time my ears were ringing.

It was as if it had been happening for an indeterminate amount of time, but I couldn't recall exactly when, and it was the same when it stopped ringing in my left ear, I don't recall when exactly it stopped, I just noticed one day that I didn't hear it in that particular ear anymore.

Strange.

I tried researching different causes, but I don't seem to fit any specific criteria, I didn't start any medications, nor did I go to any loud clubs or concerts back when I first noticed it, so I don't know....

I'm further south in Central Texas.

I've been around a lot of noisy machines and I almost always wear hearing protectors. Probably the worst exposure to sound was at a party when some idiot shot a 44 magnum pistol about a foot from my ear, the ringing however is in the other ear.

Are you close to any Military installations?

No, the nearest big ones would be in San Antonio, about 60 miles SSW of me. I'm out in the "country", the word is in quotes because the suburbs are invading, still, but it's not near any big facilities.

Over the years cell phone towers have gone up everywhere, one is rather close, only .5 mile/.88Km.

I don't think the antenna is doing this, why one ear?

Hmm, well I was looking for similarities, because I suspect it has to do with irregular brain activity and not nerve damage in the inner ear, based on my experience that it started in both ears and but has remained constant only in the one.

I was thinking Military; I live real close to a very large Air Force base and back in the 80's when Air Force 1 and/or its decoy, would land at the base, garage doors would automatically open all over town due to the massive amount of electronics, radar and radios on the jet that would trigger garage door openers.
