Another unpopular reality is the fact that "Russian organized crime" is, more often than not, Jewish organized crime. That's not an anti-Semitic trope, it's just a fact that every law enforcement officer involved in racketeering and vice knows full well.

More often than not? I am not a criminologist or a gangster but I know enough to question whether this is a solid claim. That said, I do agree that a significant amount of such criminal activity involves people who are nominally jewish, perhaps not religiously or culturally in all ways but ethnically in some kind of vague/assimilated way and certainly often ready, willing and able to enjoy the benefits of an Israeli passport.

So, i'm not fundamentally in disagreement by any means, just arguing for a bit more nuance in the statement, given the nature of the beast within conspiracy circles...

The material was transported by Russia’s top Mafia boss, Semyon Yokovich Mogilevich.

He is a specialist in every major crime: whole scale drug running, money laundering, trafficking in humans and gun-running. Since 1991, he had positioned himself to exploit the collapse of the Soviet Union.
To assist him he had obtained an Israeli passport for himself and 23 of his top associates. The travel documents had been arranged by the former newspaper tycoon, Robert Maxwell, and Edmund Safra, the US-based millionaire banker.

Later Maxwell was murdered by a Mossad assassination team after threatening to expose his links to the secret service. Safra died mysteriously in a fire in his penthouse in Monte Carlo.
Moglivich still runs the largest criminal family in Moscow, the Rising Sun. Its current speciality is smuggling fissionable material.

The indictment (PDF), unsealed on Monday, includes an extensive look into Paul Manafort’s byzantine financial dealings. In particular, it details how he used a company called Lucicle Consultants Limited to wire millions of dollars into the United States.
The Cyprus-based Lucicle Consultants Limited, in turn, reportedly received millions of dollars from a businessman and Ukrainian parliamentarian named Ivan Fursin, who is closely linked to one of Russia’s most notorious criminals: Semion Mogilevich.

Mogilevich is frequently described as “the most dangerous mobster in the world.” Currently believed to be safe in Moscow, he is, according to the FBI, responsible for weapons trafficking, contract killings, and international prostitution. In 2009, he made the bureau’s Ten Most Wanted Fugitives list.

“Ivan Fursin was a senior figure in the Mogilevich criminal organization,” Taras Kuzio, a non-resident fellow at Johns Hopkins-SAIS’ Center for Transatlantic Relations and a specialist on the region told The Daily Beast.

Autopsy Indicates Maxwell Did Not Drown

PARIS, Dec. 11— The long-awaited autopsy report on Robert Maxwell, scheduled to be released this week, says the British publishing tycoon apparently did not die of drowning but probably suffered a heart attack, even though the autopsy found no evidence of such an attack, according to the forensic doctor who prepared the report.

"We cannot confirm absolutely whether he was alive or dead when he fell into the sea," Dr. Lopez said. "That is the most difficult point. We say that we cannot rule out that he was alive when he reached the water."

But, Dr. Lopez added, "he did not have the classic signs of drowning."

In the frantic weeks before Mr. Maxwell died, his global publishing empire was rapidly coming unraveled. Since then, the two big Maxwell holding companies, which owe an estimated $3.36 billion, have sought bankruptcy court protection in Britain. And investigators say Mr. Maxwell transferred more than $1 billion to his private companies from pension funds and two private companies controlled by the Maxwell family[.

Juval Aviv, a former Israeli intelligence agent who is now a New York-based investigator, said several RCMP officers have questioned him in recent months about the Promis affair. Aviv said RCMP investigators asked him to keep quiet about the details of their probe. But he said it does involve allegations that British media tycoon Robert Maxwell - who died in 1991 - arranged for the Promis software to be sold to Canada.

It is possible to see the same pattern of suspicious deaths in other countries where really big, criminal interests are threatened. Names that come to mind at this moment are Frank Nugan (murdered), Salem Bin Laden (plane crash), Senator John Tower (plane crash), Danny Casolaro (suicide), Robert Maxwell (drowning accident), Maxwell's associates Sasho Danchev and Peter Boychev (suicide), John O'Neill (died on 9/11; chief investigator of anti-terrorist and mafia networks, including those of Safra and Bin Laden), and Daniel Pearl (murdered; investigated ISI ties to 9/11). Senator John DeCamp noted, "From late 1988, when the Franklin case first broke into public view, until mid-1991, at least 15 people associated with the case as investigators, alleged perpetrators, or potential witnesses, died sudden deaths, many of them violent." [28] His friend, the former CIA director William Colby, warned him to get off the case or risk being killed too. [29] DeCamp followed his friend's advice, and it actually was Colby who died under mysterious circumstances in April 1996. These strange deaths could also be seen in the 1975-1976 period at the time of the Church Committee hearings when half a dozen mafia bosses and associates suspected of involvement in the Kennedy murder all died one after another. [30] Another notorious case is the "Clinton deaths". Although the idea of Clinton's involvement in these 40-some deaths, including Vince Foster and the teenagers Kevin Ives and Don Henry, has been promoted by America's ultraconservative right-wing and are likely not true, the fact remains that many of these deaths were extremely suspicious. Just to clarify, yes based on my knowledge and experience "Jewish" gangsters from the former Soviet Union do feature strongly in North America though by no means do they have a total lock on Eurasian crime syndicates. Kinda like the "Italian" Mafia which included/includes various ethnicities under their syndicate.

Also, per the claims regarding Robert Maxwell and Mossad, they may well be true but I never have known how fully to trust in Ari Ben-Menashe, Gordon Thomas and other such sources. They are great tale-spinners and I don't object to their claims per se but I never know for sure how accurate all their stories are. That said, I do believe that those kinds of things do happen...
