A special relationship?
It looks likes there could be only hours to go until the WikiLeaks rumours start to become a reality … and it appears the Prime Minister David Cameron could be in for some awkward times when the revelations ‘go live’ around the world.
Speaking to BBC One’s The Andrew Marr Show this morning, Simon Hoggart, a journalist for the Guardian – one of the newspapers around the world that has been working on the release of the information with WikiLeaks - said that some of the information will be an ‘embarrasement’ to the Prime Minister and his predecessor in Number 10.
Hoggart confirmed that the Guardian would be releasing extensive details of the leaked files on Monday … presumably along with other publications across the globe.
He explained: ‘It is going to give the candid American views of world leaders and indeed the reverse too,’
‘There is going to be some embarrassment certainly for Gordon Brown but even more so for David Cameron who was not very highly regarded by the Obama administration or by the US ambassador here.’
Whistleblower website WikiLeaks has been teeing the world up (via Twitter) throughout the week for the release of a huge raft of sensitive US State Department cables that are thought to contain full and frank assessments of foreign governments as well as information on security practices and arrangements with other nations.
The site has also tweeted out a link to what it calls ‘history insurance’, a 1.4GB encrypted torrent file via the file sharing portal The Pirate Bay. Although the contents of the file is unknown at this stage, it is understood that the encrypted password will be released to users around the world at some point (probably via Twitter), allowing downloaders to view the contents of what one assumes are more (or the same) leaked sensitive documents unedited should WikiLeaks website encounter legal or technical problems in the future.
The US State Department lawyer Harold Koh has reportedly contacted the WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange warning that the leaked documents could do tremendous harm to the United States by exposing secret military information.
Head of the US military, Admiral Mike Mullen, has also called on WikiLeaks to not publish the documents, telling CNN that Assange and his supporters should ’think about the responsibility that they have for lives that they’re exposing and the potential that’s there, and stop leaking this information.’
US officials have spent the last few days briefing foreign governments on what they might expect to hear when the leaked documents hit the public domain.
In the UK, a DA-Notice (Defence Advisory) has been issued to many newspaper editors (published in full by Guido Fawkes on order-order.com - see below) asking them to brief the Defence Press and Broadcasting Advisory Committee on stories that could be deemed to relate to ‘DA Notice 1 (UK Military Operations, Plans and Capabilities)’ and ‘DA Notice 5 (UK Intelligence Services and Special Forces).’
A DA Notice is an advisory document and cannot (technically) be enforced by legal proceedings against a publication. It is designed as a reminder to journalists of their responsibility to not endanger national security by putting sensitive ‘information into obvious public prominence through its general publication or broadcast.’
The choice of Andrew Vallance, Secretary, Defence Press and Broadcasting Advisory Committee to only serve this notice to national newspapers and a few major broadcasters has brought into question the use of such an order in the 21st Century.
Many critics argue that even if the ‘establishment press’ were to adhere to such a notice (which they almost certainly won’t), the wealth of online journals and influential blogs across the world which so many people look to for news and opinion will publish regardless … and if necessary, be damned.
In addition, WikiLeaks, a high profile and easily accessible website are promising to put all of these documents online in a searchable form (much like the Iraq and Afghanistan files), so it’s hardly as if the cat won’t be out of the bag for those who want to stroke it.
It is also unclear whether the majority of the content that is about to be released would in reality fall under the remit of DA Notice 1 (Plans and capabilities of the UK military) or DA Notice 5 (UK Intelligence Services and Special Forces). It is hard to see how documents that merely embarrass certain political figures or regimes would fall into either category … and that at present is what the Hoggart seems to be teeing up.
Alan Rusbridger, editor of the Guardian said on Friday, ‘I appreciate why the DA notice might make people anxious. But, from my reading of the WikiLeaks material, only a tiny part of it is covered or relevant.’

As we approach crunch time for the WikiLeaks, many newspapers are beginning to elude to documents that they have seen or ’sources’ have told them about, so the rumour mill (which is often wrong) has begun spinning at an alarming rate.
The Mail on Sunday are today claiming that the US criticised Nelson Mandela. The Telegraph say that Gordon Brown’s weak premiership will be highlighted. The Independent on Sunday says that Obama called David Cameron a ‘lightweight’ in a cable message.
Many critics argue that surely it would be better for the majority of this information (much of which appears to in no way to endanger life or liberty, just political pride) to be out in the open …
Although most fully support the idea that truly sensitive military data that could have widespread repercussions for individuals, groups or national security should be approached with care by journalists (and should be appropriately redacted by WikiLeaks), it is hard to see how mud slinging between US Ambassadors and British politicians is best kept a secret.
The mood online today seems to be that the sooner the information is in the public domain, the sooner the public will be able to decide what’s relevant, what’s important and what’s true … rather than relying on a few political hacks from the establishment press telling us all what to think.
This is the 21st Century, if it is openness that WikiLeaks stands for … maybe they should open the doors, and let the rest of us in.

Impending Further National Security Disclosures by Wikileaks
I understand that Wikileaks will very shortly release a further mass of US official documents onto its internet website. The full scope of the subject matter covered by these documents remains to be seen, but it is possible that some of them may contain information that falls within the UK’s Defence Advisory Notice code. Given the large number of documents thought to be involved, it is unlikely that sensitive UK national security information within these documents would be recognised by a casual browser. However, aspects of national security might be put at risk if a major UK media news outlet brought such information into obvious public prominence through its general publication or broadcast.
Therefore, may I ask you to seek my advice before publishing or broadcasting any information drawn from these latest Wikileaks’ disclosures which might be covered by the five standing DA Notices. In particular, would you carefully consider information that might be judged to fall within the terms of DA Notice 1 (UK Military Operations, Plans and Capabilities) and DA Notice 5 (UK Intelligence Services and Special Forces). London, Nov 28 (IANS) Whistle-blowing website WikiLeaks will release a whole cache of secret diplomatic messages to the US related to former South African president Nelson Mandela, Afghanistan's Hamid Karzai and Libya's Colonel Gaddafi, a media report said here Sunday.

Around three million secret US diplomatic messages obtained by WikiLeaks would expose the 'no-holds-barred' private cables to the White House from scores of US embassies, the Daily Mail reported.

Mandela, who stepped down as president in 1999, condemned George Bush over the Iraq war, saying the US president had ignored the UN's calls for restraint because the then secretary-general Kofi Annan was black.

He also called Tony Blair the 'foreign minister of the US' for supporting Bush over the Iraq war.

Around 800 messages are from the US embassy in London and some reportedly feature 'negative and hostile comments' about Gordon Brown and the then Labour government.

These are reportedly related to the British-US dispute after Britain freed Lockerbie bomber Abdelbaset Ali Mohmed Al Megrahi from a Scottish jail to a hero's welcome in Libya last year.

The messages also reportedly include US assessments of Brown's personality and prospects of staying in power.

The secret messages, due to be published online Sunday, are believed to be from January 2006 to December 2009.

GORDON DUFF: WIKILEAKS, A TOUCH OF ASSANGE AND THE STENCH OF AIPAC

Wikileaks is like a TV show that never gets off the ground. We started with a “shoot ‘em up” in Iraq, the helicopter slaughter soon forgotten and move on to, well, what? We got a deluge of material from Afghanistan, carefully gleaned to point fingers at Pakistan. When it came down to backing any of it up, it went nowhere.
Considering the massive corruption and drug scandals, even the revelations that President Karzai has been in negotiations with pranksters pretending to be the Talbian, all the really juicy stuff from Afghanistan must have been in another drawer. Then we got Iraq. Ah, Iraq. There, we could check. We know the people who wrote the leaked material. They told us Wikileaks edited it, altered it, redacted it more than the Pentagon.
The “Iraq War Log” was, well…phony. There is one thing that has been consistent about Wikileaks and our prediction is that this next batch, reputed to be millions of highly sensitive documents, will prove our point. Wikileaks is Israel.
Wikileaks is an intelligence operation to weaken and undermine the American government, orchestrated from Tel Aviv, using dozens of operatives, dual citizens, some at the highest authority levels, spies for Israel. Through leaking carefully selected intelligence along with proven falsified documents, all fed to a controlled press, fully complicit, Wikileaks is, in fact, an act of war against the United States.
HOW CAN ISRAEL SIFT THROUGH DEFENSE DOCUMENTS?
This last week, in a lawsuit over an AIPAC, (Israel’s lobby) employee reputedly fired for being caught spying against the US, news stories across the United States reported that, as part of that $20 million civil case, evidence will be presented that masses of classified material come to AIPAC and Israel continually. Is AIPAC Wikileaks? The only evidence of any massive leak discovered in the Pentagon is AIPAC. Last week’s Washington Post story was buried quicker than a carp in a playground: Jeff Stein, at the Washinton Post, reports the following:
Rosen says his actions were common practice at the organization. He said his next move is to show that AIPAC, Washington’s major pro-Israeli lobbying group by far, regularly traffics in sensitive U.S. government information, especially material related to the Middle East. “I will introduce documentary evidence that AIPAC approved of the receipt of classified information,” he said by e-mail. “Most instances of actual receipt are hard to document, because orally received information rarely comes with classified stamps on it nor record’s alerts that the information is classified.”
But Rosen said he would produce “statements of AIPAC employees to the FBI, internal documents, deposition statements, public statements and other evidence showing that [the] receipt of classified information by employees other than [himself] … was condoned … for months prior to being condemned in March 2005 after threats from the prosecutors.”
How does this apply to Wikileaks? The answer, if we bother to put the pieces together, is staring us in the face. The proof, the ultimate proof, however, will be in the current batch of documents that have already been prepared, weeks of work by dozens with access to classified documents, and only one group has that access and can operate with impunity, as was shown in a recent story in Veterans Today:
AIPAC is a sham. The group has, over the years, destroyed anyone who has tried to have it named what it really is, a dangerous foreign lobby and nest of spies. AIPAC is the most feared organization in Washington and most powerful, above any law. A former employee of AIPAC, Steve Rosen, who AIPAC claims was a spy, more appropriately a “caught” spy, now claims his former employer does nothing but spy. Rosen stands to get $20 million in his defamation lawsuit against AIPAC.
He isn’t without motive but we have also learned that Rosen has considerable documentation of AIPAC receiving and disseminating classified information, received from, well, we have to call them traitors, inside the US government. We know that a vast spy ring operates in Washington and that Israel is the center of it.
We also know that Israel, Turkey, India, Pakistan, China and Russia trade American secrets back and forth like baseball cards. We know that AIPAC is deeply involved in this spying. We know that AIPAC claims to hold signed letters of unconditional support from 80% of the members of congress, all of whom received campaign contributions arranged by AIPAC, with many elections financed almost entirely by AIPAC, a group involved, according to the Washington Post and Steve Rosen, in spying on the United States with seeming complicity by the FBI itself.
WHAT DO WE LOOK FOR, HOW CAN WE PROVE ISRAEL OR AIPAC MAY BE BEHIND WIKILEAKS?
Were we to ask author Jeff Gates, he would point to the “storytelling” aspect of Wikileaks, Assange and his “on again-off again” rape charges or that someone that manages to make it to continual television interviews can’t be found by police or security services. We call this “storytelling” and Jeff Gates tells us that Israel, the power behind Hollywood and the American press, is the “storyteller” of all time.
There are better ways to “prove,” a word as subjective as any of the storytelling around the Wikileaks myth itself. The proof, always depending on who accepts the proof, and as is almost always the case, dependent on whether the press itself chooses to report it, which if Israel is involved, is more than a bit predictable itself. Lack of reporting potential Israeli complicity in Wikileaks, knowing AIPAC and Israel have the longest history of accessing classified information and, by far, the strongest agenda for leaking information, could be seen as conclusive proof itself.
WHAT WILL BE IN WIKILEAKS?
If dual citizens who make up much of the Pentagon’s leadership are working with Israel or AIPAC to formulate Wikileaks, as seems to be the case, then the upcoming leak will serve a pro-Israeli agenda, even if it damages the United States, as other Wikileaks have. These are Israeli agenda items:
Discrediting Obama foreign policy in order to weaken the president’s influence with congress to push for a halt on new settlements in Palestine and the forced removal of Islamic property owners.
Accusations involving Turkey, now feuding with Israel over the killing of Turkish citizens on the Mavi Marmara, now recognized as a purely humanitarian mission. These accusations against Turkey may include weapons being supplied to terrorists in Iraq, a fanciful abuse of reality. What will not be reported, if this story is “leaked” either through Wikileaks or the other Israeli sources, “Debka”..”Stratfor”..”FamilySecurityMatters.org”..or the infamous “IsraelNationalNews.com” is Israel’s 40 years of complicity in the very acts they now accuse Turkey of.
More importantly, is the issue of blaming Turkey for the actions of the terrorist group, PKK, long funded by Israel and now claimed to be allied to Al Qaeda, is vital to Israel’s strategy against Turkey.
Expect Pakistan to be hit, as usual. An Islamic nuclear power with a top rate million man army that outclasses Israel hands down, Pakistan, primary competitor for US aid dollars, a country that actually has agreements with the United States and real troops fighting alongside Americans, will get their usual Wikileaks bashing.
WIKILEAKS IS CHICKENFEED MEANT TO COVER ISRAEL’S TAIL
Is it a coincidence that documents regarding Israel, their spying, influence peddling, suspicions of complicity in terrorism, Yemen, Iraq, Pakistan, Somalia, across Europe and even the Detroit bombing, those reports are there, they are classified but you will never see one on Wikileaks. In fact, they are the only classified information that never gets out to the news. Is that because, as we have learned, the borders of Israel extend well into Washington DC, well into the Pentagon? What won’t we see in Wikileaks:
Nothing in Wikileaks will accuse anyone, even Pakistan or Afghanistan, or complicity in narcotics trafficking nor mention the huge new narcotics industry operating in Iraq. Ask yourself why.
One of the biggest areas of complaint in the Pentagon, more classified White Papers have been written on this than anything else: “How Israel is Endangering the United States“
In fact, the biggest “classified” debate in America is what supporting Israel, a nation with incredible wealth and utterly obnoxious leaders costs the United States. Rumors of such issues aren’t rumors at all. When General Petraeus presented his now famous power-point presentation to Admiral Mullen, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, outlining how Israel is undermining American foreign policy, he wasn’t operating without tens of thousands of pages of intelligence behind him. Not one page, not one word of these studies will be in Wikileaks.
When Vice President Joe Biden said the following to Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu:
“This is starting to get dangerous for us, what you’re doing here undermines the security of our troops who are fighting in Iraq, Afghanistan and Pakistan. That endangers us and it endangers regional peace.”
Are we to believe these statements were taken out of thin air? In fact, Petraeus, Mullen and Biden are only the tip of the iceberg. Admiral Mullen, America’s top military leader under the Commander in Chief, has repeatedly cited Israel and America’s relationship, as, not only a liability but something far worse, so much worse that:
As public statements by Admiral Mullen, Vice President Biden, General Petraeus and others, citing America’s relationship with Israel as a military disaster, are obviously “watered down” for public consumption, can you imagine what classified reports are saying?
WHY PRESIDENT OBAMA IS AFRAID AND WHY AMERICA IS PARALYZED
The greatest fear any president has, even more than impeachment, is the fate of Jimmie Carter. Carter, now pegged as an “Antisemite” and “enemy of the state” in Israel, is still being sold to Americans as something quite the opposite of reality. Friends in Israel, if they want to start a row, something not too difficult in Israel as you might guess, will walk around carrying one of Jimmie Carter’s books under their arm. A Yasser Arafat t-shirt and suicide vest are considered only marginally worse. Carter left office under mysterious circumstances. Several disasters, high interest rates, the hostage crisis and the failed rescue attempt showed signs of conspiratorial meddling. His real crimes were:
Pushing Israel for a durable and lasting Middle East peace
Monetary policies that kept America out of debt…
Support of Social Security and Medicare/Medicaid
Unwillingness to engage in military adventure
When the defense and oil lobby joined with Israel and Wall Street to crush the Carter presidency, the writing was on the wall. Interest rates, the “October surprise” and the military sabotaging the hostage rescue attempt, these things destroyed President Carter who might, otherwise, have suffered an “accident” like the Kennedy brothers. Today, millions of Americans who should be praying to return to Carters foreign policy and fiscal conservatism, are taught to look on him as a failure. However, more and more, historians are seeing Carter as the last American president. Every leader since has been dictated to by Israel.

Material concerning Israel will not be the focal point of a new exposé by the whistle-blowing website WikiLeaks, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Sunday, as Israel and the United States tensely awaited the imminent release of American classified diplomatic cables expected to include secret communiques between the two countries.

"Israel is not the center of international attention," the premier said, adding that Jerusalem had not "been updated by the Americans about specific sensitive materials to be disclosed regarding Israel."

that was an odd comment by Netanyahu this evening.
But commentators do not share his optimism. The explanation is that Netanyahu is signalling he will not make a fuss over ANYTHING, and will play loyal to the USA no matter what. (even if the case is similar to Germany finding a spy )/
also, israeli gov CAN make agreements with the leading newspapers to contain information. But, if the originals are disclosed online, then sooner or later Israeli bloggers will publish, so its not going to be useful.

I am alaways concerned by separate deals that the Israeli gov makes, but I don't think in this case they can stop actual docs from being dowloaded, but who knows. I've seen everything happen when it comes to israel. the gov has always something to offer, and even enemies or principled actors eventually strike deals especially when the only ones to suffer are israeli citizens who do not get the full picture about their "nice" gov. But according to the news outlet I deem more reliable in Israel, the whole dirty sewage is already out and its a blow to Mossad no matter what. This outlet although definitely mainstream has proved to be more reliable than others (news-israel.net) when it comes to intelligence fiascos (such as mabhouh), and usually tells it as it is.

Wikileaks 'hacked ahead of secret US document release'

Whistle-blowing website Wikileaks says it is under attack from a computer-hacking operation, ahead of a release of secret US documents.

"We are currently under a mass distributed denial of service attack," it says on its Twitter feed.

It adds that several newspapers will go ahead and publish the documents released to them by Wikileaks even if the site goes down.

The US state department has said the release will put many lives at risk.

Wikileaks founder Julian Assange has said the US authorities are afraid of being held to account.

Wikileaks has said the release of classified messages sent by US embassies will be bigger than past releases on Afghanistan and Iraq.

The newspapers set to publish details of the US embassy cables include Spain's El Pais, France's Le Monde, Germany's Speigel, the UK's Guardian and the New York Times.

.WASHINGTON (Reuters) – State Department documents released by whistle-blowing website WikiLeaks provided candid views of foreign leaders and sensitive information on terrorism and nuclear proliferation, the New York Times reported on Sunday.

The documents show Saudi donors remain chief financiers of militant groups like al Qaeda and that Chinese government operatives have waged a coordinated campaign of computer sabotage targeting the United States and its allies, according to a review of the WikiLeaks documents published in the Times.

The WikiLeaks documents also show Defense Secretary Robert Gates believes any military strike on Iran would only delay its pursuit of a nuclear weapon by one to three years, the Times reported on its website on Sunday.

The Pentagon immediately condemned WikiLeaks' "reckless" dump of classified State Department documents and said it was taking steps to bolster security of U.S. military networks.

"The (Defense) Department has undertaken a series of actions to prevent such incidents from occurring in the future," Pentagon spokesman Bryan Whitman said.

The White House said the leak of the diplomatic cables could compromise private discussions with foreign governments and opposition leaders and may put at risk the lives of named individuals living "under oppressive regimes."

The pending documents release had been widely reported for more than a week and expected on Sunday.

The U.S. government, which was informed in advance of the contents, has contacted governments around the world, including in Russia, Europe and the Middle East, to try to limit any damage. Sources familiar with the documents say they include corruption allegations against foreign leaders and governments.

WikiLeaks had reported earlier on Sunday that its website was under attack, but said later that media outlets would publish some of the classified documents it had released even if the group's website crashed.

"El Pais, Le Monde, Speigel, Guardian & NYT will publish many U.S. embassy cables tonight, even if WikiLeaks goes down," the website said in a Twitter posting an hour after it tweeted that its site was under attack.

The State Department had warned WikiLeaks that the expected release would endanger countless lives, jeopardize American military operations and hurt international cooperation on global security issues.

The department's top lawyer urged WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange in a letter on Saturday to keep classified documents off the website, remove records of them from its database and return any material to the U.S. government.

Seeing as they're US government cables, no I'm not surprised at the amount of bomb Iran propaganda. But that's far from being all, isn't it?

Alleged links between the Russian government and organised crime, devastating criticism of the UK's military operations in Afghanistan, claims of inappropriate behaviour by a member of the British royal family, and this: Classified "human intelligence directives" issued in the name of Hillary Clinton or her predecessor, Condoleeza Rice, instruct officials to gather information on military installations, weapons markings, vehicle details of political leaders as well as iris scans, fingerprints and DNA. The most controversial target was the leadership of the United Nations. That directive requested the specification of telecoms and IT systems used by top UN officials and their staff and details of "private VIP networks used for official communication, to include upgrades, security measures, passwords, personal encryption keys".
