Days of Action kick-off in Washington, DC with the Close the SOA FAST
Sunday, April 10 - March on the White House to Demand an Executive Order to Close the SOA and an End to U.S. Militarization in the Americas.
www.soaw.orgThe seven day juice fast to close the SOA started on Monday in front of the White House. Click here to watch a short video and to read statements by some of people who are fasting. Human rights defenders in other parts of the Americas have joined the fast as well (click here for a map of fast locations.) The public fast in Washington, DC is the first event in a week-long series, that includes the Latin America Solidarity Coalition's Anti-Militarization conference at American University, vigils, panels and book readings, a direct action and the Pentagon on Friday and a festive and creative March to Close the SOA and Resist Militarizatioin on Sunday, April 10 (gather at 2:45pm at Dupont Circle). Sunday's march will include speakers, musicians and puppets, and will culminate with a nonviolent direct action at the White House. Joseph, please join us in DC.
Following Sunday's march and action to the White House, hundreds will converge on Capitol Hill. We will lobby our Representatives to amplify our call for an executive order to close the SOA with a Congressional sign-on letter to Obama. We will educate our Members of Congress about the reality of U.S. foreign policy towards Latin America and demand and end to U.S. militarization.
If you will be in DC for the Lobby Day, prepare for your visits now. Start by contacting your Representative to set up an appointment. Visit the SOA Watch April Lobbying page for information on planning and preparing for your visits and other lobbying resources. If you won't be in DC, you can participate in the Call-in Day.
