Oh heaven help me.. I'm ONLY putting this out there because the question was raised and this whole issue was, for me, settled way back but... perhaps that last statement is the root of the 'clique-ishness?'

I'd like to state again that I was being the jerk in the above situation, and Jack and I have no hard feelings!

Thanks justdrew. I was thinking of high school and negative set-ups and after being at a party all night I just couldn't see through the fog. :partyhat Sorry that it felt exclusionary to some folks. But really jack, after you went off to work you let this one die. :hrumph

Me too. :sun:

Actually I do the netflix stream thing and watched less than half the movie when the poor quality of the streaming became unbearable.
I didnt care so much for the characters, so I havent gone back, though, yes "Dogtooth" warrants consideration here.
Maybe I just wasnt in the mood for games. But there was something larger that made me uncomfortable, I've had a hard time(still) formulating this so bear with me.

It has to do with being called to action by a figure of authority, and the way in which people fall in line, and whos needs are being served.
And how that process can be abused.

I am certain Jack has no hidden agenda. And I know I am reading too much into this, but I felt I owed you guys a bit of an explanation.
When reading Maddies goodbye thread, I felt I could relate to her feelings of alienation.
It was probably a poor analogy, comparing my reaction to this thread, with hers to the misogyny business, but there you go.
So get back on topic you guys, I didnt mean to distract. Peace.

While I was away on my "vacation" I thought of some other strategies that totalitarian systems
use to maintain control.

36. Authority figures can label and accuse without providing any evidence.
37. Authority figures can punish without any need to provide reason.
38. Authority figures have power to silence any opposition.
39. To disagree or challenge authority figure in anyway is seen as a violence that must be met with a greater violence.
40. Authority figures allowed to invent and exaggerate the motives, behaviors and language of others.
40.A Authority figures allowed to compare nonconformists to negative groups.
41. Authority figures and favored ingroup not held to the same standards they demand of others.
42. Authority figure has power to create outgroup that is lower status then chosen group.
42A. Any appeals for understanding or sympathy to outgroup is seen as attack and person becomes member of outgroup.
43. Authority figure's personal truth is the only official accepted truth.
43A. Authority figure's personal truth will be idiosyncratic, inconsistent and ambigous at varying times.
44. Non acceptance of Authority figure's truth is seen as an attack on the official truth and is met with
accusations, denunciation, smears and banning.
45A. Apology, confession and self abasement is required if one put forth a objective truth that challenges authority figures truth.
45. Authority figures accuse those they attack of tactics they employ.
46. When authority figures use such tactics and are caught they rationalize their use as serving a greater good.
47. Authority figure refers to narrative of immense hardship and sacrifice they faced making any criticism seen as
devaluing that experience.
48. Authority figures punish outgroup preemptively to protect a in group.

36. Authority figures can label and accuse without providing any evidence.

- Because, frankly, none will be forthcoming.

37. Authority figures can punish without any need to provide reason.

- If you ask why, you're trolling.

38. Authority figures have power to silence any opposition.

- Do it again and your account will be suspended.

39. To disagree or challenge authority figure in anyway is seen as a violence that must be met with a greater violence.

- I'll remember you said that.

40. Authority figures allowed to invent and exaggerate the motives, behaviors and language of others.

- I saw what you did there.

40A. Authority figures allowed to compare nonconformists to negative groups.

- Nice right-wing sentiment there, buddy.

41. Authority figures and favored ingroup not held to the same standards they demand of others.

- There are exceptions to every rule.

42. Authority figure has power to create outgroup that is lower status then chosen group.

- Have you considered posting this in the Fascism Subforum?

42A. Any appeals for understanding or sympathy to outgroup is seen as attack and person becomes member of outgroup.

- Tag-team trolling, huh?

43. Authority figure's personal truth is the only official accepted truth.

- It was discussed among the mods and, sorry, that's just not the way we see it.

43A. Authority figure's personal truth will be idiosyncratic, inconsistent and ambigous at varying times.

- Isn't everyone's?

44. Non acceptance of Authority figure's truth is seen as an attack on the official truth and is met with accusations, denunciation, smears and banning.

- I know all that, but if you do it again, you're gone.

45A. Apology, confession and self abasement is required if one put forth a objective truth that challenges authority figures truth.

- It's not actually required, but posting is a privilege, not a right.

45. Authority figures accuse those they attack of tactics they employ.

- I can't fucking believe you said that shit, asshole.

46. When authority figures use such tactics and are caught they rationalize their use as serving a greater good.

- It was a strategic decision for the health of the board, and you fell for it.

47. Authority figure refers to narrative of immense hardship and sacrifice they faced making any criticism seen as devaluing that experience.

48. Authority figures punish outgroup preemptively to protect an in group.

barracuda, I know this is a strange request, but I think you should
consider banning yourself.
Honestly while I think my banning was a gross miscarriage of justice and without
merit because my posts were hardly comparable to others in "the thread" who
went ape shit crazy and were given day passes.... in the end it gave me time
to step away and realize this is just a screen of a screen of a screen etc.

You allowed me a bit of a martyr complex and I still carry a tiny
noblesse oblige from the experience. Although undeserving, exile was
good for me. I think before you start seeing a troll in every post- you
should step away for awhile, go to the beach, build a bird house,
I don't know.. just take a break from waving bans in every John Q.
Citizen who disagrees with you.

Come on Callahan, you deserve a rest. Why not turn in the
badge and gun for awhile?

Re: Greatest RI Movie Ever: The Rules.

Postby The Consul » Sat May 21, 2011 1:37 am

So I get the film in the Netflix queue, waited for my wife and boy to go to bed. I'm watching the movie late. The screen is above the fire place, in front of the hearth sit a pair of purple padded Weider dumb bells. I watched the show and fell asleep in my chair. The dog was whining to go outside earlier than normal. I stared at the weights in front of the fire place, reminding me of watching the movie, wondering what I might have dreamed, the story, characters and plot reconnecting in my mind.

A figure appeared next to me as I was getting out of the chair, startling me in the half darkness. It was my son, holding out his hand, in the palm of it was his baby right upper lateral incisor.
"Daddy," he says, "I want to keep this one."
In the last month on every day it doesn't rain I've seen sun dogs, a couple of them quite astounding.
The world is asleep.
Everything is about to be redefined. Once we get out of the trunk (if we aren't dead) and new keepers aren't there waiting still.

That's so funny because I just assumed brekin was talking to me as an "authority" in this his current dystopian nightmare come true where women are the sole authorities of their own experience. It never occurred to me he could be referring to the mod team.
