DARPA's “significant step" towards spatio-temporal cloaking

Pentagon Scientists Use ‘Time Hole’ to Make Events Disappear

January 4, 2012

Soldiers could one day conduct covert operations in complete secrecy, now that Pentagon-backed physicists have figured out how to mask entire events by distorting light.

A team at Cornell University, with support from Darpa, the Pentagon’s out-there research arm, managed to hide an event for 40 picoseconds (those are trillionths of seconds, if you’re counting). They’ve published their groundbreaking research in this week’s edition of the journal Nature.

This is the first time that scientists have succeeded in masking an event, though research teams have in recent years made remarkable strides in cloaking objects. Researchers at the University of Texas, Dallas, last year harnessed the mirage effect to make objects vanish. And in 2010, physicists at the University of St. Andrews made leaps towards using metamaterials to trick human eyes into not seeing what was right in front of them.

...

In the words of Nature editors, the research marks “a significant step towards full spatio-temporal cloaking.” But it could be decades before military personnel will basically be able to zap history, as it happens: According to Cornell scientists, it’d take a machine 18,600 miles long to produce a time mask that lasts a single second.

That's nothing. I can easily cloak an entire night's worth of my own activity, both spatio and temporal. It's called alcohol.

I'll believe it when I see it.

yeah, that story is REALLY about some folks taking DARPA for some good grant money. There's NO WAY to turn the little trick they've pulled in a special machine in a lab into a device that would function in the real world.

As if the Pentagon needed a new method to "make events disappear"! (Much less a ridiculously ineffective and grotesquely energy-intensive one.)

First there is a mountain then there is no mountain then there is. In an age where history is being rewritten as it happens, the allusion here is not just to conscious visibility but to pretemporal projections. We can now massage the consequences of any act before hand, no matter how unintended the fallout be. The machine is not a camera, it is an element of an overall system of mass deception (i.e, science) just like it is used for mass destruction. To plan the idea that something can disappear begs for the intelligence to manufacture threats that do not exist then solve them magically, voila! by simply saying they have been vanquished. To move something in space without having to travel it is another question and not likely one the human race will survive to realize; at least not on its current path. Can anyone seriously believe that any good could come from the same nexus that brought us the strategic planning of 60,000 nuclear warheads, everyone of them at least ten - 1,000 times more powerful than Nagasaki? As Joyce wrote "inelluctable modality of the visible, if not that, then thought through the eye." If the modality can be altered for wide variety of viewpoints this can be used to single out those not blinded who cry all is not as it may seem. In any event it would be temporary and the lasting effect on the temporal would be reinforced. Get a behavioural scientist and an 800 dollar an hour attorney in the application room along with the common enterpreneurs who consistently inform our national policay and well, the pyramids themsves, if necessary, can be made to appear as spumoni ice cream cones. None of us want to admit that is all they have ever been, but we won't dare say so in public, especially if we are allowed to believe they are somewhere else, condensed in a breast/penile enhancement cream that will improve your memory while attracting the opposite sex if you order before midnight tonight (partial procedes go to the find the scattered remains of our oblitereated veterans society).

Carl Bernstein's 1977 article on 'The CIA and the Media' quoted the Senate Church Committtee's suppressed report as concluding
'there was no need to infiltrate Time Magazine because CIA people were on the board of directors.'

There's a term for this disinfo marketing trick. shhhh. :wallhead:

To accommodate both the interest in discussing psyops and "keyword hijacking," and the concern over how such discussions often proceed here by way of subject disruption and "thread hijacking," I'm instituting the following:

1. I've created a new forum, "Psyops and Meme Management," dedicated to the subject.

2. Original posts on the subject are still welcome in General Discussion.

3. One reply which introduces the subject to an unrelated thread will be permitted, but all subsequent discussion of "keyword hijacking" must take place in a new thread in either General Discussion or in "Psyops and Meme Management". A link to it may be posted in the original thread.

4. Subsequent off-topic replies will be subject to deletion.

5. Habitual non-observance of these guidelines will be regarded as disruption.

and yet another in the long line of "step closer to invisibility cloak" articles...

This one looks like maybe it's actually useful as external magnetic shielding for plasma conduits.
