New Film About FBI Bombing of Activist Judi Barr(1990 case)

I had heard years ago about the case of two prominent 'save the redwoods' activist leaders in Northern California who were nearly blown up when a car bomb went off inside their vehicle...only to be charged in it as a "self bombing". Of course the more likelier case was that the FBI or proxies connected/known set the bomb to kill them and send a message.

A new documentary about the case is coming out soon

I remember about a decade ago seeing on dvd a documentary about FBI involvement in the killing of civil rights leader Viola Luizzo, and Ive seen some stuff that makes a compelling case for other unsolved civil rights era bombings/violence/killings, as well as the death of Fred Hampton and MLK.

Judi Bari and Darryl Cherney were falsely arrested for car-bombing themselves on May 24, 1990 while on an Earth First! musical organizing tour for Redwood Summer. They sued the FBI for violations of the First Amendment, claiming the FBI knew they were innocent but arrested them to silence them. Having survived the bomb but now stricken by cancer, Judi Bari, a leader of the movement to save California’s old growth redwoods, gives her on-camera, deathbed testimony about the attempt on her life and her colorful organizing history with the radical environmental movement Earth First!

This action-packed journey unfolds in the order Judi testified as questioned by civil rights attorney Dennis Cunningham. The archival footage brings the story to life, driven by music from the Earth First! movement. Judi Bari, an eloquent, brash orator with a union background, grows into a powerful environmental leader. Story threads and character arcs intertwine: the lawsuit against the FBI, the complex history of Earth First!, the loggers, the controversy of tree spiking, the political/romantic partnership of Judi and Darryl, and the fate of the ancient redwoods.

Who Bombed Judi Bari? could be one of the most critical films of its ilk, an historical precursor to Occupy Wall Street: where environmentalism and civil rights collide into an epic tale of saving the redwoods and ultimately ourselves.
