Theresa and Jeremy

Towards the end of last year I stumbled upon someone attempting a long and slow look back at the deaths of Theresa and Jeremy. As it turns out, I had previously come across the bloggers website once or twice in the past. That blogger, Xdell, apparently is a long-time lurker here at RI and was here at least through part of what unfolded here in the wake of their deaths. Thinking enough time had passed and that things may have settled down Xdell set about trying to re-examine what happened.

It may not provide any final answers to the who, how, or why surrounding their deaths but I found it to be a fascinating look back.

The thread that was started here at RI (which accidentally led me to Xdell's blog) was deleted rather quickly back in late 2012 out of concern it was linking to a site which had proven hostile to this community. I'm pretty sure the site that was linked to in that deleted post was not Xdell's nor DreamsEnd's. There was a very brief but poignant comment on that thread from one of the moderator's which I quickly copied down before the thread's deletion which dealt with the threat to this and other online communities to the possibility of "digital gaslighting teams" both then and now.

I don't know if this long series of posts by Xdell may help provide some sort of closure or not. I hope that Jeff and others here who followed the deaths of Theresa and Jeremy closely, and who were effected in some way by their untimely passing, might find something useful in Xdell's re-examination.

At the bottom of the list of links to Xdell's posts on "Theremy" I've reposted DreamsEnd's February & March 2013 posts in which he explicates a lot of what he feels he learned about the shenanigans surrounding him and RI during that tumultuous time. He names names of those he says were behind those shenanigans and speaks of communicating with Joseph Matheny whom DE says he was led to believe was responsible for those shenanigans by those he now feels were some of the real perps behind the harassment of he (DE) and others here at RI. He seems to believe it was mostly a vendetta against Matheny by disgruntled former players of JM's past ARGs.

Anyway, here are some other links and musical accompaniment...

. . . PEACE . . .

Why now?
Posted on March 10, 2013

This blog gets very little traffic and given the recent discussions of the Theremy saga over at XDell, I think this indicates that Theremy interest in general is rather minimal these days. That’s good. I have been in contact with XDell and given him lots of information. Some he used and much he did not. I don’t agree with everything he wrote but he has not been influenced by me at all in terms of changing things I did not like. He has, except in his public reply to me recently on his site, been polite and respectful.

But I am posting this to explain to the few who may have interest and, more importantly, may get roped in by Cynthia Simms Garcia and Vinnie Caggiano, as to why I bothered to out them now. Basically, over a year ago I wrote this letter to them and strongly suggested they stop fucking with people. They have not. Here is what I wrote in January of 2012. The only editing I did was to remove a person’s name.

This email is being sent to all of you, even those of you who are the same person. It is the last thing I have to say about all of this. It is because of an accidental copy sent to Cynthia that I am sending this prematurely, before I was done making up my mind about exactly what was going on.
In July 2007 a woman named Theresa Duncan died. I’d never heard of her. Soon after, her boyfriend killed himself, apparently by walking into the ocean. I’d never heard of him either.
I started an investigation, thinking surely this is an artistic hoax. There were so many of what I considered little “tells” on Duncan’s blog, and also so much subtext that it seemed the hoax was a way to tell a larger story. Blake, himself, even said his latest art project would be a story that would “take five years to tell”. There was in the very first week of her blog, a review of a book about a double suicide of an artist and his lover. There was a little hint at the end that the words on the blog were specifically written in a way to “attract those who know.”
This is all to say that there were lots of things on the blog that made the consideration of a hoax reasonable, or it seemed so to me, anyway. The idea was that it was a sophisticated ARG…more along the lines of Ong’s Hat than I Love Bees…perhaps with an open storyline.
It did not help matters that a paralegal in St. Mary’s, Georgia began to contact me under various assumed names to confirm that I was correct. It helped even less that somehow, in a freak synchronicity, she had “anagrammed” “A Lonely Wit Aloha” in the comments of the Rigorous Intuition blog only three weeks before Duncan died, and then took credit for foreknowledge of the event. Duncan, of course, being the “Wit” of the Staircase. Who was lonely and who, with her boyfriend, took a very long Aloha, indeed.
This paralegal eventually contacted me under her own name (using the same IP address, oddly) and so I saw that she was behind “Et in Arcadia Ego Eve”. I guess she ultimately wanted to be found out, for some reason. (Hi, Beth, if you are reading this.)
She was charming in her way, but rather vicious when she turned on me, including posting negative reviews on me on a local website for homeschool parents, and creating a fake blog to pose as a Mom here in Nashville.
What followed was, I suppose, a downward spiral of my own making. I became obsessed with finding the truth. It was rather public. People speculated on my mental health and a year and a half ago I posted what to most would look like a suicide note. In other words, it is obvious that this adventure was not good for my mental health.
At some point in, I think, spring of 2009 I was contacted by a “Mike Metzger” who pointed to some interesting things online. One of them was a story posted on- line called “The Last Statue”.
It was a dense, allusion-riddled work, all in the same spirit of the main “storyline” at Rigorous Intuition, as well as what I perceived to be the storyline in Joe’s “Egg Movie”, which I had discovered during the Duncaneering. (And had issued my own little Fatwa against Matheny as a result.)
Sometime soon after writing about it on my blog I began receiving comments from one of the characters in the story, Kid Kenoma. This led to interactions with “Teri Lee, Terri Lee, Tina Delgado, C. Geste, Untermuyer, and probably others I’ve forgotten.
The Last Statue had a convincing-at-first-glance and amusin- at-second-glance backstop…by that I mean the complex of websites and social networking personas all designed to create the backstory of the piece…Margaras the “publisher”, David Pratt the “website owner” and Justin Demartino, the tattoo artist turned author of really boring other story, Sad Iron Blues.
Slowly but surely I realized that there was no “there there”. While Last Statue referenced Duncan and alluded to the same Hubbard-Parsons-Process-(insert serial murderer here) storyline, there was no evidence, despite more and more explicit references, that “TL” had any inside knowledge of Duncan or really, any particular point. It was clearly just about getting the players (only two of us for almost the entire time) to make our own connections. In short, it was much like Ong’s Hat as described in this essay by Cynthia Garcia. When I read her description of OH, I immediately recognized The Last Statue, albeit much smaller ( I don’t know of anyone other than BMG and one other who ever looked into it carefully.)
Then in what would be considered implausible writing in a screenplay, after I backed out of all this for the most part, I got contacted by ANOTHER paralegal in Georgia (well, Chattanooga) who also has a long and rather convoluted history on the internet, centering primarily around Incanabula 1. Cynthia asked why I was tangling with Joseph Matheny and let me know that The Last Statue was certainly “Incanabula 2″ by Matheny.
As I researched Cynthia, it occurred to me that she was, in fact, behind TLS and trying to get some activity again by restarting my little jihad against Joe Matheny. One thing is undeniable about her…she definitely attempted in various ways to keep I/OH going and spin it into new forms. In other words, SHE had spent a lot of energy attempting to create an Incanabula 2. Really, it’s all right there to see. And now she rises to warn me that it is really Matheny behind this “Incanabula 2″.
At that point, I contacted big, bad Matheny, who against all expectations, was the most reasonable sounding person of everyone involved. In fact, at no point did he threaten to kick my ass. I did not ask about Cynthia at first…but he said he knew who was behind TLS and it was a sad story. He did not offer a name. It was I who asked him if it was Cynthia, and he confirmed that in his opinion it was. He told me his perspective on all of it and it was done fluidly, in large part via skype. It all checked out. I am not going to detail what I found that, to me, confirmed Joe’s story…who am I going to convince here who does not already know?
But I want to say this. Cynthia and TL both (pretending, for now, that they are separate) warned me about Joe Matheny. TLS was a project to COUNTER Matheny, said TL. Cynthia directed me to a lot of her writing (other writing I found on my own…not sure which is which now) that showed nothing but high praise for “the Maestro”, though now she was telling me a story of how vicious he was in attacking those who “peeked behind the curtain”.
Well TL certainly gets no points in the emotional sensitivity department, even linking with glee to the very suicidal-sounding message I posted as I left my wife and home at what has to be the emotional lowpoint of my life. All in her effort to deliver the “ass kicking” she promised on her KK blog. Whoever this was, certainly was not the “anti-Matheny” (as described by both women) at all, but was acting as Matheny himself was purported to act. And for this, any and all behind TLS and related should feel great shame. You have become that thing you claim you are seeking to combat. You have pushed me when I was in a fragile mental state only because I dared question your motives. You had “insider knowledge” (via BMG) of the times I was lost and reeling from a lot of things, some of which revolved around this online b.s. It did not stop you. You did not hesitate to attack when it suited your purpose.
I’m no longer in a fragile emotional state and, frankly, could not care less what is written about me on KK blog. Nobody but trolls read it, anyway. But I do care for my friend BMG and my only motivation in contacting JM was to get enough info to convince her that TL is manipulative and opportunistic and will turn on someone once that person no longer meets her needs. And that, while clear enough to me, is not how BMG perceived TL.
I am certain that Cynthia Garcia is one of the people behind TLS and likely the primary person writing on the KK blog. I have no plans to “out” you on my blog or elsewhere. In fact, we are a lot alike. When I realized my duncaneering led nowhere, and because of the notoriety and rush of mystery it had provided for so long, I, too, lost my bearings. I understand that. But ultimately, I was able to let it go.
I don’t know how much blame to assign to Joe Matheny as I was not around in the OH days. I think a project like that should obviously be wary of attracting the emotionally fragile and while it is “caveat lector” on the internet, some people are more vulnerable and can easily become unbalanced in the face of such an all-consuming project as OH.
If I were designing the new OH, I think I would have a psychologist on my team, to watch the regulars, and make sure no one is going off the deep end. But would it be my RESPONSIBILITY if someone took my project too seriously? Especially AFTER being told that it is a game? (No Flowers for Lab Rats shows a pretty solid understanding that Ong’s Hat was just that). That is an open question. OH was something new, an entirely new kind of storytelling and while there is the TINAG goal of current ARGs, I doubt another such online experience will ever approach the blending of fact and fiction as OH did. I think that was dangerous maybe in ways those behind it would not have thought of in early internet days. Fractured personalities and wounded people are often attracted to “alternative” spirituality and conspiracy lore. I understand that very well now…I hope everyone reading this does as well.
And TL/Cynthia, you KNOW this. And you know the state I was in…so you DID have some responsibility to ensure you did not push too far. And you, quite frankly, failed to do exercise that responsibility and further, did not seem concerned enough even to try. All in the name of “ass-kicking”. What an “anti-Matheny” you turned out to be.
Ultimately, of course, it’s my own fucking fault, to use a technical term. To be led down the same path twice, and by Georgia paralegals both times for fuck’s sake…well, I have some kind of learning disability, I guess. And hey…good on you. You really got me, there. Congrats.
As I said, I am not planning to post this info, though I feel certain I can make a very solid case online. I have one request and that is, whatever it is you think you are doing, you take care of those emotionally vulnerable people who come into your orbit or who may already be there. I don’t know (removing name for privacy), for example, but he seems unbalanced to me. Likely there are others and one day, they, too, might be curious about what’s behind the curtain and why their online friend won’t reveal her real name. Handle them with care, next time.

The folks behind the Last Statue, formerly found here include:

Cynthia Sims-Garcia, aka Harla Quinn, and co-writer/roleplayer of: Kidkenoma, Terri Lee, Untermeyer, cgeste…and others I’ve forgotten.

Along with:

Vinnie Caggiano

Matt Harvey, aka vega_33.

And whoever this guy turns out to be.

They were way into the Ong’s Hat ARG, then got disillusioned with Joseph Matheny and began spending their time interjecting themselves/gamejacking/trolling various of his projects. For a decade.

Wish it were more interesting, I really do.

Edit: Despite protestations here, this is now being acknowledged here.

“I’ve always been interested in misfits…I think their toughness and nonconformity and propensity for trouble belie a different interior, the person who is a perpetual outcast is usually too good for this earth, too smart or too funny or too kind or too sad or too lonely or too talented to fit into a world where the mediocre fare best.”

What if we all spent half the time we spend on internet wankery, on real-life charity? Wouldn't that be a thing.
