Cartels suspected as high-caliber gunfire sends Border Patrol scrambling on Rio Grande
By Jana Winter · Published July 20, 2014

EXCLUSIVE: RINCON PENINSULA, Texas -- U.S. Border Patrol agents on the American side of the Rio Grande were forced to take cover Friday night when high-caliber weaponry was fired at them from the Mexican side of the river, sources told FoxNews.com.

The weapons were fired at the U.S. side of the riverbank in the area of the Rincon Peninsula across the Rio Grande from Reynosa, Mexico, at about 8:30 p.m., sources said. Bullets ricocheted into an area where Border Patrol agents were positioned, Rep. Louie Gohmert, R-Texas, told FoxNews.com.

Border Patrol sources confirmed Gohmert's account, and said the shots may have been fired by .50-caliber weapons.

"We don't have any armor that can stop a .50-caliber round, so our Border Patrol agents had to take cover when the rounds were richocheting around them," said Gohmert, who has been in the area for the last week to get a first-hand look at the border situation.

"When the shooting stopped, about 40 to 50 people came out on the U.S. side and turned themselves in. So clearly the rounds were being fired to suppress every effort to stop anybody intervening with anyone or anything coming across," Gohmert added. "We have no idea what or how many or whom came across with the other illegal immigrants."

Sources said they believe the gunfire came from members of Mexican drug cartels, which include former military members trained in shooting that type of weaponry.

Border Patrol sources said the rounds were clearly identifiable because .50- caliber weapons make a distinctive noise when fired. Sources said they also believe this is the first time that Border Patrol agents have taken direct fire from the Mexican side of the river in this area.

"I don't know why we're out here like sitting ducks," one Border Patrol source said. "We need help."

As of Saturday evening, a Border Patrol spokesman did not immediately return FoxNews.com's request for comment.

The Rio Grande sector has been the busiest part of the 2,000-mile border with Texas in recent months as a surge of illegal immigrants, many from Central America, has poured in to the U.S. in the mistaken belief that U.S. policy allows for them to remain in America once they make it in. More than 60,000 unaccompanied children had crossed in the last nine months. But Border Patrol officials have warned that the deluge has left the border largely unattended, and vulnerable to cartel infiltration.

I've been avoiding RI for a while as it seemed to have become quite the trollfest. But this most recent article circles close to the truth. Justdrew hit the nail on the head at the beginning of this discussion. We need to see child trafficking as we see drug trafficking--sure, it's due to a range of issues afflicting Central America, but its proximate cause is the widespread publicity campaign by the coyotes that "amnesty" will await their children. I have several friends who bought this lie; it is, or at least was, before the current US embassy propaganda onslaught, common knowledge that children were being let through.

So here's what's really happening: the coyotes contract for the major international mafias such as as Zetas and Cartel del Golfo, who have turned heavily toward sex slavery and organ harvesting in the last couple of years. The coyotes convince gullible poor people across the "northern triangle", as the Pentagon calls it, to send their children up to relatives. What they don't tell them is that the smuggling routes are now completely controlled--on the Gulf side, by Zetas up as far as about Potosi, and by the Golfo from there to the Border. ALL border crossings are now controlled by the Cartel del Golfo--why the FUCK is this not front and center in the news? Everyone who has had a relative from here go up there, or one sent back down here, now knows this. If you try to get across (after being extorted far more times than they told you you were going to be), you are detained by the cartel until your family pays the fee. If you don't pay, and try to sneak across, the cartels get you and kill you. But at least they do allow you to go home, otherwise. This is ALL illegal migrants now, not just children.

Once the fees have been paid, the cartel gives the go ahead and the child is deposited across the border, instructed to run into the arms of US immigration. This everyone knows.

But what of the hundreds or thousands of children who simply go missing? A good number get harvested en situ for their organs, ranging from hearts and kidneys to everything else usable. Hundreds of thousands of dollars per organ now. Obviously, there is a great demand for these among the world's desperate and wealthy parents. Beyond that, they are sold into slavery. Very lucrative business. All this is published in newspapers here, but somehow appear to avoid the press in the US.

If the company is involved, then I would think that the cartels' price for doing the US several favors is our not talking about what is really going on. And the favor they are doing is helping divide and conquer the Hispanic population, of great political importance for future elections, not to mention the help they are providing us by justifying further locking down of the border, to keep THEM out or Us Americans in, or both.

how close we are! The Zetas have quietly been taking control of drug trafficking in the US, and of course their decapitation-specialist enforcers are the Guatemalan Kaibiles, trained by the US to chop off commie Maya heads during Rio Montt's evangelical genocide. Head-chopping seems to go everywhere the US black state spreads its filth. One wonders what the name of the op is that has 25 lynched and burned bodies hanging from the overpasses of a prominent US city, as a message from the Zetas to the American people?

As for violence being a cause, it's a convenient structural argument that theorists pull out of their asses. It's background noise; of COURSE it contributes. Hunger, poverty, etc., obviously they are the driving forces. But in THIS case, it's the coyotes running around spreading the word from the cartels, a rumour mill. What is very odd is how quickly the US Embassy rolled out a media campaign in towns and villages across the lands to combat this idea, almost as if they already had it prepared (it takes them forever to do anything, after it is put out for consultant bids). Songs on the radio, ads on TV, live hiphop concerts, some openly sponsored by the US Embassy, some not--we've never seen this before. Making the US look good--the angel/devil game we are always playing.

Wombat, it's happened more than once. This:

"Social media users who denounce drug cartel activities along the Mexican border received a brutal warning this week: Two mangled bodies hanging like cuts of meat from a pedestrian bridge."

AND...
"The bodies of 23 people have been found hanging from a bridge or decapitated and dumped near to the border city of Nuevo Laredo, where drug cartels are fighting a bloody and escalating turf war.
Authorities found nine of the victims, including four women, hanging from an overpass leading to a main highway, according to an anonymous Tamaulipas state official.
Hours later, police found 14 human heads inside coolers outside the city hall along with a threatening note.

AND still this...
"The bodies of two men were found hanging from the Los Alamos bridge early Friday, said Fermin Gomez, Baja California state's deputy attorney general for organized crime.
Both victims had their hands and feet bound and one had his head covered with a black plastic bag. One of the bodies fell into traffic when the rope broke."

It's been happening for quite a while...
Well played, God. Well played".

I was aware it had been happening in Mexico -- to spectacular and horrible effect -- but I was quoting it with questions because it references "a prominent US city" and it would be a stunning escalation for that to happen within our borders. Even if it was AZ, I'd be stunned.

I'll assume it was imprecisely phrased rhetorical prophecy until advised otherwise.

Probably because in a border town, you'd know...the border is as clear as mud. One minute your in Tijuana, California, USA...you cross a bridge...and you;re in T.J., Baja California Norte Sur, Old Mexico. Literally, you can cross back and forth in some places and not even be to aware until they close the gates...I'm thinking Algodones, it used to be like that. Nogales was like that for a time, as well. I'm not as familiar with the Texas border...but I imagine it's not much different in some places.
There was recently a Mexican national helicopter that came across and shot at the border patrol.
People water-sporting on shared lakes that get shot and killed, they recently busted a team of hill spotters, that is, people who sit on hills in the middle of the desert with satellite phones and highpowered rifles, and coordinate rip teams, coyote kills, harvests, all that horrible sheet.

edited for: I'm to lazy to check the location of those bridges on google maps, but I imagine they are pretty close to the border!
Well played, God. Well played".

Tea Party town hall erupts as Texas state Rep urges ‘compassion’ for migrant kids
By David Ferguson
Wednesday, July 23, 2014 18:47 EDT
...
Simpson attempted to tell the crowd of about 160 residents that the thousands of children arriving at the Mexico-U.S. border are fleeing lives of violence and abuse, including gangsters who specialize in trafficking children as sex slaves. Texans should treat the children with compassion, he said, a notion that his audience summarily rejected.
...
“I don’t believe in amnesty,” he assured the crowd. “I don’t believe in treating people who’ve crossed the border as a murderer…I do think there should be a path, a legal path, for naturalization or citizenship. We’re a nation of immigrants.”

Immigrants to be Housed in 'Suites' Near San Antonio (Video)

KARNES CITY - Immigration and Customs Enforcement on Friday will open a remodeled detention center three hours north of the Rio Grande Valley.

The Karnes City center will house women and children who entered the country illegally through the Valley.

The 532-bed facility underwent a massive renovation to house women and children. The center housed only adult immigrants in the past.

Immigrants will be at the facility for an average of 23 days.

The feds said the rooms will be referred to as "suites." The suites are furnished with bunk beds, play tables for children, flat-screen television sets and landline telephones.

"I will refer to everyone in this facility as a resident. ICE generally refers to people in custody as detainees," ICE San Antonio Field Office Director Enrique Lucero said.

Lucero oversaw the transformation of the center.

The center has a soccer field covered with artificial turf, basketball courts, ping pong tables and a weight room. Officials also have plans to install a playground.

A charter school from nearby San Antonio will provide schooling and access to a library for the immigrant children.

The immigrants will get medical screenings. Children will receive physicals within 24 hours of arriving at the center and women within a week.

"There is a dentist on site," Lucero said.

There is a room where the immigrants will get to pick new clothes. Every illegal immigrant will be able to choose six sets of clothes, including shoes and socks.

"While residents are here ... we will provide a safe and humane environment," Lucero said.

The feds estimate it will cost approximately $74,000 a day to house 532 immigrants at the center. That's an average of $140 a day per person.

Officials did not disclose how much the government spent to refurbish the center.

Valley sees new immigrant surge
Shelters for children near capacity

Immigration / MGN Online

By FERNANDO DEL VALLE | Staff Writer

HARLINGEN — Rio Grande Valley shelters are filling up amid a new surge of undocumented immigrant children, most fleeing violence from Central American countries, immigration attorneys said.

Since Oct. 1, U.S. Border Patrol agents have apprehended 4,973 undocumented immigrant children along the Southwest border, 3,036 in the Rio GrandeValley area, Border Patrol statistics show.

The numbers soared from October 2014, when 2,519 undocumented immigrant children were apprehended along the Southwest, with 1,547 in the Valley.

“We are closely monitoring current trends and coordinating across the whole of government to ensure an effective response to any changes in migration flows,” U.S. Customs and Border Protection said in a statement.

“We are diligently working to secure our borders, address underlying causes and deter future increases in unauthorized migration while ensuring that those with legitimate humanitarian claims are afforded the opportunity to seek protection.”

Officials are working on “public awareness campaigns” to warn people in Central America and Mexico of the dangers of journeying to the U.S. border, the statement said.

Undocumented immigrants “attempting to come here illegally are a top priority for removal,” it said.

“We are aware that smugglers often use misinformation about current immigration policies and practices to lure individuals seeking to cross the border to employ their services.”

The surge comes more than a year after tens of thousands of Central American refugees crossed the border during 2014.

Like the 2014 immigration crisis, many of the children crossing the border are traveling without their parents from El Salvador, Guatemala and Honduras, claiming they are fleeing violence in their home countries, said Kimi Jackson, an attorney who serves as director of the South Texas Pro Bono Asylum Representation Project, or ProBAR, in Harlingen.

“We’re working at our maximum to provide services for the kids here now,” Jackson said. “The numbers have been gradually increasing for a while now.”

Jackson said many children requesting amnesty in the United States are being held in shelters.

“There has been an increase in the number of beds for unaccompanied minors in our area,” Jackson said.

The federal government has requested BCFS Health and Human Services, a San Antonio-based organization, to expand its shelter at ValleyBaptistMissionsEducationCenter on Harrison Avenue, spokeswoman Krista Piferrer said.

Piferrer said the international organization has applied to the state to add 94 beds to its 290-bed shelter.

“We are nearing capacity at all our facilities,” Piferrer said. “Without a doubt, we’ve seen a sharp increase in the last couple of months. We are at the highest capacity we’ve ever been at this time of the year.”

The 2014 immigration surge led organizations such as Los Fresnos-based International Educational Services, or IES, to expand shelters in the area.

In 2013, Austin-based Southwest Key opened two shelters to hold undocumented immigrant children in San Benito — one at the former Dolly Vinsant Memorial Hospital on U.S. Business 77 and the other at the former Atrium Place Rehabilitation and Nursing Center at 502 E. Expressway 83.

Across the Valley, shelters offer about 1,500 beds for immigrant children, said Jodi Goodwin, a Harlingen attorney who handles immigration cases.

“There are a lot coming through here,” Goodwin said. “We see a significant number of people.”

Last year, the surge of undocumented immigrants from Central America hit crisis levels, with federal officials projecting as many as 90,000 children would be held in shelters across the country.

From October 2013 to September 2014, Border Patrol agents apprehended 252,600 undocumented immigrants along the Southwest border, including a record number of 68,541 children under 18 who traveled without parents or guardians.

Of the total number of children, 49,959 were apprehended in the Valley area.

"Beyond Crisis Proportions"

Record 61 million immigrants in U.S., 15.7 million illegally
By Paul Bedard
• March 7, 2016 | 6:37 am

From the beginning of the fiscal year, Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson told the committee, officials have apprehended 23,533 unaccompanied minors trying to cross the border.

"I think we're possibly beyond crisis proportions here," said Chairman Sen. Ron Johnson, R-Wis. "Four months and we're up to 23,000 already… 2014 was a crisis, right now I think we're running ahead of 2014 levels," Johnson added.

"If we maintain this pace, we'll have 77,000 in 2016," he said. The record was set in 2014, when Customs and Border Protection reported a total of 68,541 were apprehended at the border.

The Homeland Security head said his agency is nonetheless making progress, saying that 2015 was a "pretty good year." His agency apprehended just under 30,000 unaccompanied minors last year, though there was a surge late in the season.

"I want to compare numbers with you," the secretary said. "We had a pretty good year, it was down significantly from FY14 in terms of total apprehensions along the southwest border.

"In the fall, October, November, December, we saw an increase," he said. "The number was 6,775 in the month of December. In January, the number went down by more than half … to 3,111. In February, 3,113. The March number so far, we're only seven or eight days into March, is pretty much at the same pace as February, slightly higher."

The Wisconsin senator replied that he stood by his concern. "Again, the point being … 2014 was a crisis, right now I think we're running ahead of 2014 levels from the numbers I'm getting," he said.

Sen. Tom Carper, D-Del., helpfully closed out the exchange with an interjection of his own. "I just ran the numbers quickly, shorthand on the back of an envelope.… We'd be looking at about 57,000," Carper estimated.

Republican U.S. Senate candidate Ron Johnson personally paid for a controversial author to speak to leaders in Oshkosh this spring after more than a year of pointed, sometimes tense discussions with other members of a committee designed to foster collaboration between education and business leaders.

An Oshkosh Northwestern analysis of hundreds of e-mails and meeting minutes found Johnson, while serving as chairman of the Oshkosh Partners in Education Council, pushed to have Charles Murray speak despite objections from other members. The PIE council is a group of educators and business leaders who meet regularly through the auspices of the Oshkosh Chamber of Commerce to discuss best practices for preparing students for life after high school.

Johnson, one of two Republicans in the Sept. 14 primary vying to take on Sen. Russ Feingold in November, said he paid Murray’s $5,750 fee to encourage discussion about improving local schools and helping students achieve their full potential. Murray, a member of the conservative think tank American Enterprise Institute, is best known for his controversial and bestselling book, “The Bell Curve,” which discusses genetic-based intelligence and differences in abilities among ethnic groups.

A Correction and An Apology to Ron Johnson (Feingold Opponent)

By Jud Lounsbury
Friday Aug 13, 2010 · 9:42 AM CDT
Last week I wrote that Russ Feingold's opponent, if elected, would be the least qualified Senator in Wisconsin history and the least qualified Senator in the Senate next year.

I had written that Ron Johnson's only qualification was that he started a small plastics company in Oshkosh.

That claim was completly wrong and I apologize.

The reason why I came to that conclusion is that on Ron Johnson's campaign website it says,"In 1979, Ron and Jane moved to Wisconsin, where Ron started a business called PACUR with his brother-in-law".

The truth, though, is that this statement is completely wrong. I should have known better to fact-check something I read on the internet. Again, I apologize.

PACUR was actually a spin-off company of another plastics company called Curwood, which was co-founded by Howard Curler (Ron Johnson's father-in-law) in 1958.

Howard Curler was a giant in the plastics industry. In the late 1960s, he led a merger with the huge multinational corporation, the Bemis Company, but stayed on as president of Curwood. From 1978 to the early 1990s, Howard Curler would be CEO of Bemis. (Today, Howard Curler's son, Jeffrey Curler is president and CEO of the Bemis Company.)

Howard Curler's other son, Pat Curler, headed-up the spin-off company, which started in 1977 and was named PACUR, as a shortening of Pat Curler's name. For many years PACUR's only "client" was "selling" plastic products to parent company, Curwood.

In 1979, when Ron Johnson was 24, he accepted an offer to join his wife's family's plastic business, moved to Wisconsin, and worked in the PACUR company under his brother-in-law, Pat Curler.

This is exactly how it happened, but if you just learned about Johnson from media coverage and Johnson's campaign, you would be led to believe (as I was) that an entreprenurial Johnson was a "self-made man" that started a plastics company in Oshkosh.

For example, the NRSC likes to refer to Johnson as an "entrepreneur" and a on a recent campaign trip to LaCrosse, GOP State Rep. Mike Huebsch introduced Johnson as someone that "built a successful manufacturing company from scratch."

This is simply not true.

The reality is that Ron Johnson lucked-out by marrying Howard Curler's daughter, but that doesn't make him an entrepreneur and a business-dynamo, that makes him lucky.

It also makes him far more unqualified than previously thought.
