Interestingly, I learned from a random comment on a post on the “Gray State: The Rise” Facebook page that he talked with at least one other person about this Web-Series idea; a guy named Scott Forbes

Maybe I'm going out on a limb, but is there any chance it's this Scott Forbes?

Scott Forbes, who worked in the South Tower of the world trade center, witnessed a power-down of the tower in the weekend before 9/11.

(and wtf... the name synchronicities continue... there was also an actor named Scott Forbes who was born on September 11, 1920.)

Though there are elements of it present, it isn’t exactly the Red Dawn-esque insurgency epic that I think a lot of people were expecting. It delves into some very weird, surreal, occultish stuff.

Yeah .... This David Kirk West fellow seems to protest a bit much. He put a lot of work and time into that post and then told us to just pooh-pooh and brush of the weird occultist stuff ....

Nordic, I want to echo that.
No evidence except my intuition / spidey-sense was twanging a little there.
I felt the guy who wrote it was too freaked out to really explore the murder / execution possibility and was relieving cognitive dissonance by going down the 'toned down debunking but still debunking' route.
I would mention again though that the pressures on filmmakers trying to get funding are immense.

Yes and they can get desperate and perhaps make deals with people they wouldn't normally want to be in the same room with. Believe me there are some really fucked up and dangerous people who would do anything to be in the movie biz.
