Solidarity with Antifa who stood up to KKK in Anaheim!

Posted on February 29, 2016 by valdinoci

As many of you have now heard, a KKK rally was militantly confronted by antifascists in Anaheim, California. In the clashes that followed Klansmen stabbed various antifascists before being run off. The police, showing their true colors, arrested 7 antifascists and eventually released all of the Klan members detained that day. A call for support and a fundraising page has been put together by Copwatch Santa Ana and the LA Anarchist Black Cross in order to support those arrested, and to help with much needed legal and medical expenses.

"ANTIFA" KKK FIGHTERS DRAW WORLDWIDE SUPPORT, BECOME INTERNET FOLK HEROES

BY GABRIEL SAN ROMAN THURSDAY, MARCH 3, 2016

The anti-Klan protesters jailed after the Pearson Park melee may not be getting a dime from local liberal groups, but support for their expected legal fight is pouring in from all over the world. A fundraising page for the "antifas" (activist slang for "anti-fascists") has amassed donations totaling more than $27,000 in just three days time. The last of the arrested counter-demonstrators, save for one remaining holdout, got released Tuesday night because no charges had been filed by the Orange County District Attorney's office—but the antifas aren't out of the woods yet.

"The [OCDA] is in the process of reviewing the case in its entirety in order to make the appropriate charging decisions surrounding the rally incident on Feb. 27, 2016," reads a statement by the agency. "We will make a public announcement when we have a filing decision." While the OCDA takes its time to look over the mountain of video and photographic evidence from the melee, local activist groups wasted no time in organizing support for whatever felonies or misdemeanors may come their way.

"The anti-fascist comrades who got arrested are in urgent need of some real solidarity!" reads their plea on the FundRazr site they've setup. "That’s why we need to raise BIG MONEY for them. Your donations will go towards any medical or legal costs associated with their injuries and arrests from that day."

The effort is being led by CopWatch Santa Ana and the Los Angeles Anarchist Black Cross, with plans to divvy up the dough evenly among the arrested. That there's tremendous support pouring in should come as no surprise. In fact, online fundraising would have collected even more money by now if not for complaints about the page causing the host site to pause and investigate it before resuming. Militant anti-fascism is a movement spanning the world over, and CopWatch Santa Ana has been receiving encouraging messages from antifas everywhere:

"Solidarity from UK"
"Support from Berlin Antifa"
"Support from Australia, antifa for life."
"Love from Melbourne, Australia. Proud of your achievements. Keep fighting the good fight."

Those are just a few, with many, many more coming from across the United States. And it shouldn't be surprising that in the age of social media, the Anaheim antifas aren't only raising tons of cash, but have also turned into folk heroes of the Left, with memes exploding all over the internet. Sure, people will complain about them being valorized for rushing the KKK, but folk singer Malvina Reynolds did the same with "Battle of Maxton Field," recalling when armed Lumbee natives ran the Klan out of their rally at Maxton, North Carolina in 1958.

Image
Antifa meme

At this very moment, rappers and punks are surely writing their own songs about the Klan in Anaheim, but memes captured the moment first, mostly by flipping Heather Davini's breathtaking photography from the melee. One shows Armando Campos clutching his severe stab wound with the words "Chicano Power" emblazoned on top. Another shows the Felipe Esparza-lookalike punk readying a punch with the punchline reading, "Six Minutes Into KKK and Chill and He Gives You This Look." Then there's the meme that started this whole post, transforming a picture by our own Eric Hood into a lesson about having a white friend summoning his inner John Brown (or maybe even, Street Dogs!)

We know the Anaheim police want nothing more that the antifas and the media to bear the brunt of the blame for last weekend's melee, but the first draft of popular history shows that ain't happening anytime soon.

Any thoughts on why/how Denver in particular became a hotspot for boneheads and other far right racists?

Maybe you've already posted your thoughts on that somewhere...

Does it have anything to do with an airport shaped like a swastika? Just curious.

Talking of the KKK AD, when you pasted that Benjamin Zephaniah piece and I added some context about the National Front, a good offshoot would have been to mention the Greensboro massacre as it provides a historical background to what you've been discussing here.

Maybe not as sexy and therefore a donation magnet, but if you're serious about this stuff it's all part of building a framework for understanding the issues.

This can move on to awareness of connections between Combat 18 and the KKK, but then we're back on my side of the pond. You have seemed to like those 'bigger picture' type things though.

"....extreme right blog Heathen Harvest,...."

No it's not. This can be verified by anyone here, as I have done myself, starting a few pages back.

It's an excuse for some fools to trash an anonymous band's equipment and then tell themselves they are fighting the good fight. This is why the far right will continue to go from strength to strength, a clueless and self-absorbed 'opposition'.

All out Against the KKK

New promo video for the April 23rd All out Atlanta demonstration. On April 23rd, the Ku Klux Klan and white nationalists are holding a white power march on Stone Mountain. On the same evening, a racist concert gathering will be held at a yet to be disclosed location. We are coordinating a mass gathering on Stone Mountain to shut down the march and disrupt further white supremacist efforts.

We are mobilizing locally and nationally for a show of anti-racist power on April 23rd at Stone Mountain. Our gathering time and location will be announced closer to the date—keep an eye out for updates.

Would this 'racist concert gathering' be of the same ilk as the one where they smashed up some unknown band's equipment in the usual lack of focus and fuzzy ideation.

Put the word 'racist' in front of something and it makes any action alright due to fighting the good fight I suppose. If some musician, roadie, friend or fan gets in the way of such righteous vandalism, then that they might get damaged too. It took me three years to cobble together my first proper drumkit, so that could be me.

It appears to be warfare between two distinct groups of extremists - with a huge swathe caught somewhere between the two - those to whom;

change cannot come fast enough

change is proceeding uncomfortably fast

The 'Changers' appear to the 'Comfortables' as oppressive, righteous and wrong

The 'Comfortables' appear to the 'Changers' as racist, sexist and wrong

It's possible, if not probable, that this schism between extremes leads to civil war in Western cultures. However - a constant, unrelenting war against foreigners is a great way to stop a civil war at home. Maybe this is how the US continues to exist in it's current iteration.

Literally less than a dozen Klantards do some demonstration and the left goes absolutely nuts. Very few of even the most far right assholes support the Klan clowns.
People forget how many men of color have been put in prison thanks to the Clintons, or how many brown people have been murdered by the Bush and Obama regimes.
To me that's the real white racism

For people living in the American South- most especially black people- the Klan is not dead. Their many murder victims are, however.

Let us not forget how often the killing and terrorism was/is linked to institutional power also: Greensboro, the Mississippi Sovereignty Commission, to attempts on the life of Martin Luther King and other high profile assassination and political control programs. Not to mention the many innocents living in fear today.

Who could possibly claim that the KKK is an acceptable organization in any way whatsoever? It could be accepted by a white nationalist- and/or a cop/spook who wants to use them, but almost no one else at all. Certainly not people targeted by their violence and intimidation.

ALERT! White Supremacists to Hold ‘Rock Stone Mountain’ in Georgia to Oppose Black Lives Matter

WHEN: April 23, 2016 all-day
WHERE: Stone Mountain Park, Stone Mountain GA USA
CONTACT: All Out ATL (group opposing event)

Event website

Fresh from his tenure in Klan leader Thom Robb’s outfit in Harrison, Arkansas, Billy Roper, the former National Alliance Deputy Coordinator who went on to start his own now-defunct organization called White Revolution, is trying to get people to notice him again by latching onto a White supremacist rally on Stone Mountain in Georgia on April 23, the second in less than a year at the park. Calling it Rock Stone Mountain, the organizers are attempting to respond to the efforts – and particularly the success – of Black Lives Matter with this event, which also includes a concert at an undisclosed location, a Billy Roper staple as a way to get more people out to an event. Another Billy Roper staple: Antifa! The opposition has been getting things together since the day this thing was announced, so if they are not at the National Socialist Movement’s (NSM) conference and rally being held two hours away in Rome, GA on the same day (NSM curiously has been conflicting with other big WP events as of late and always announces after the first one is announced) you can bet they will be there. You can find out more information on the counterdemo at All Out ATL.

I am frequently and vocally dismissive of protest and political action gestures, but blocking the Stone Mountain march makes a great deal of sense.

The march, and locale, are symbolically quite important to the Kosplay Klan, and fuck it up would be semiotic juice.

Still, skepticism about the "Klan" is not out of line. Just like we can't be throwing shit-fits of Reichpanic every time some punk rocker puts a swastika armband on, there's nothing wrong with mocking a bunch of bloggers in sheets.

Affording their symbols the power they crave is just handing them an asset. Don't do that.

"Reichpanic," the most hilariously evocative phrase I've heard in ages.
And while we spoke of many things, fools and kings
This he said to me
"The greatest thing
You'll ever learn
Is just to love
And be loved
In return"
