Of Possible Interest to RI Readers

Seems I often come across something that I think will interest people here but don't want to start a thread for it & then watch it die, so I just let it go.

Here's a couple came my way today:

Image

Josh Harris, founder of Jupiter Communications and, later, Pseudo.com, forwarded a letter to Boing Boing today in which he proclaims to the New York Times that "Pseudo was a fake company," and that the entire enterprise was "an elaborate piece of performance art."

Why did he address this to the NYT? Mr. Harris claims many of the news articles which established a perception of legitimacy for the once high-flying internet video startup -- the sort of legitimacy that helped encourage investors to part with tens of millions of dollars -- were written by now-disgraced NYT writer Jayson Blair, who was forced to resign in 2003 after having been caught plagiarizing and faking content in his stories for the paper.

Harris sends this to Boing Boing from Sidamo, Ethiopia (see snapshot above, with his almost-ripe coffee plants), where he moved shortly after selling his most recent creation, Operator 11. If he looks a little under the weather, that's because, as he explains, he's been fighting a fever there for the past few weeks; he says he's there "working on a documentary about the 'Great Ethiopian Nation.'"

Here is Harris' letter, which continues after the jump:

I now acknowledge that Pseudo Programs, Inc., a New York City based Internet television network founded in 1994 and sold from bankruptcy in 2000 was the linchpin of a long form piece of conceptual art. Pseudo burned over $25 million in private and institutional capital over a span of seven years. Pseudo was a fake company. .... In his editorial (May 25, 2003) Frank Rich wrote: We expect our journalistic media to fictionalize the truth. As others have noted, the most dispiriting aspect of the Jayson Blair scandal may be that even the subjects of his stories usually didn’t bother to complain about the lies The New York Times published about them; they just assumed it was standard practice. One way or the other, we all inhabit the Matrix now.

UPDATE. DECEMBER 2015. CERN HAS STARTED ION COLLISIONS

And so it finally happened… The experiment is being performed as we speak. Ion-Ion collisions are breaking records every day. If the Earth is going to die, because of CERN, it will be. From 1st to 15 december, stable dibaryons are being produced with no safety whatsoever at the facilities.

So as of now those stable dibaryons are falling to the center of the Earth, where they will slowly accumulate till reaching the critical mass required to start an ice-9 reaction, within the span of a few years.

This transformation of our light, harmless up and down quarks into strange quarks, a hundred times heavier, is caused by the enormous energy-mass reached by each particle as it comes closer to c-speed. Because c-speed is the barrier of speed for particles, according to relativity, when quarks reach the limiting barrier, they keep absorbing energy from the accelerator. But instead of accelerating, quarks swallow and transform that energy into mass – E=mc2; hence becoming massive strange quarks, which once put together into stable dibaryon configurations, should fall to the center of the Earth.

...The main factor of extinction both in certainty of the event and timespan, in which it will happen is obviously the number of experiments performed:

The facility will produce more lethal dibaryons, the more ion-ion collisions are performed. Right now, as we speak those collisions are producing, per collision according to CERN, 30.000 ‘unclassified particles’, to be found in the strangelet soup of up and down and strange quarks – the infamous quark-gluon soup, origin of the big bang – plainly speaking, the most powerful explosive of the Universe. If we multiply this number by the sheer amount of atoms colliding in each bunch of tightly packed rays, we are talking of millions of dibaryons in each experiment. Certainly enough of them to bring a critical mass within years of accumulation at Earth’s center.

As is the "Global Financial Crisis," no doubt. ("Art is whatever you can get away with...")
.
(BTW, I feel that there is some mysterious connection between the two articles you posted, but I do not have the resources to make the nature of that relationship explicit. Anyone care to help me out?)

The cerntruth stuff is.....i don't have a word for it, 'troubling' doesn't 'seem' a bit trite, it 'is' trite.

spent couple of hours on it last night, might polish it off today.

at least it'll happen quick !

Oh SNAP - that Pseudo.com as art hoax bit is from 2008.

Thus your "More currently:" comment...

I wish you would. I would like to see what you gleaned from your time and effort. Cern is an odd duck to say the least.

I'm not going to pretend to understand the particle soup mix - and whilst some updates are from right now,
pieces from 2000-2013 - & we are still here.
(that's the good news..........)

it'd be irresponsible (guffaw) to give an executif summary before i've finished, but i've pretty much got the flavor
- there is of course a possibility that he's just plain crack'd & spinning a hellaciously novel doomsday,
tho i seem to recall several others raising flags & blowing whistles - sounds like this guy got shitcanned for it
- but thats on his say-so.
lets just hope he's wrong.

Remember how much fun it was to discover the 'methane clathrate gun' & whether its already fired?
- think of that as a vicarage tea-party in slow motion.

The ability that the human race has developed to create and maintain an electrostatic connection between the plate of the earth and the ionosphere is a little bit startling. Add the nano particulate matter being added into the sky that has the ability remain aloft and become an actor in the show and it is quite impressive. That might be rudimentary compared to what Cern is capable of but I really don't know.

Might as well just ask on this thread: does anyone know why I can't find any information on the possibly-CIA connected abduction cult from the 80s midwest (?) "the watchers" in the search function here? That subject is of possible interest to me, an RI reader.

finders keepers

The finders trail goes cold if you follow it....but by the time you get there,
you've seen the abyssal chasmic difference between the world we pretend to ourselves is real,

- and the real.
it all goes very cold in the stomach.

There's a documentary in the works about The Finders, being produced by occasional RI contributor Tyler Rabbit.

I've compiled a fairly complete tread on the subject and discovered an even dozen details from contemporary press coverage that just made it all so much f'ing weirder:
