China rates its own citizens - including online behaviour
'The most staggering, publicly announced, scaled use of big data I've ever seen'
artikel The Chinese government is currently implementing a nationwide electronic system, called the Social Credit System, attributing to each of its 1,3 billion citizens a score for his or her behavior. The system will be based on various criteria, ranging from financial credibility and criminal record to social media behavior. From 2020 onwards each adult citizen should, besides his identity card, have such a credit code.

Our students here from China (and India) are incredible and brilliant. Scary in that they are "better" students and know written English better than their American classmates, but overall just great to work with.

Politically and socially, I think I know what you mean, but I don't really have a handle on that or my experience doesn't reflect that. Granted, my population sample is probably skewed way lefty.

The new way police are surveilling you: Calculating your threat ‘score’
https://www.washingtonpost.com/local/pu ... story.html

FRESNO, Calif. — While officers raced to a recent 911 call about a man threatening his ex-girlfriend, a police operator in headquarters consulted software that scored the suspect’s potential for violence the way a bank might run a credit report.

The program scoured billions of data points, including arrest reports, property records, commercial databases, deep Web searches and the man’s social- media postings. It calculated his threat level as the highest of three color-coded scores: a bright red warning.
