I realized immediately after bumping the Florida thread that it was the right timing; FL is darker and weirder than ever...

Mazars and Deutsche Bank could have ended this nightmare before it started.
They could still get him out of office.
But instead, they want mass death.

It's scary when your friends and family have to log in to Facebook and mark themselves "Safe" on an official Safety Check feature . . . .but gives peace of mind that everyone I know is okay. I have some gay friends (and family) in the Orlando area, but none were present at the club. Florida is a dark and scary place, but only in that its a reflection of broader America. We have some of the richest and poorest communities, some of the least diverse and some of the most diverse. We have the oldest city in America (St. Augustine) and some of the newest, commercially produced communities. Florida is like a fractured mirror, but so is America.

A man reaps what he sows

Texas official facing backlash from tweeting Bible verse after Orlando attack

The lieutenant governor of Texas is drawing criticism for tweeting a Bible verse hours after an attack at an Orlando, Fla. nightclub catering to the LGBT community left 50 people dead and many more injured.

Dan Patrick tweeted a photo with the words from Galatians 6:7: "Do not be deceived. God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows," on Sunday morning. That tweet was later deleted.

Pulse Mass Casualty Event: What We Know So Far

Posted on June 12, 2016 by willyloman

by Scott Creighton

(see UPDATES at end of article)

Just over 24 hours after the shooting in Orlando of singer Christina Grimmie at a nightclub, there has been another shooting in another Orlando nightclub. The first shooting took the life of Grimmie as she was signing autographs after a show. Her attacker, identified as Kevin James Loibl, was not from the Orlando area but rather from St. Petersburg. Loibl was tackled on the scene by bystanders after he shot Grimmie and he was carrying a couple handguns so a mass casualty event was likely foiled by those people who responded by attacking him very quickly.

The very next night, we have another shooting at another Orlando nightclub and this one did turn into a mass casualty event.

20 people are reportedly dead inside the club with another 42 injured and taken to local hospitals.

The shooter is dead.

All we know about this new shooter is that, like Loibl, he “was not from the Orlando area” and his motive, if there was one, is not immediately clear at this point.

This new shooter from the Pulse nightclub, a gay nightclub, had the requisite number and types of firearms as many of the previous American Gladio events: hand gun, extended clips and of course, the obligatory AR-15 assault rifle.

I do not know at this point if he was wearing body armor and a mask as many of the other shooters have in the past.

From what I know so far, at around 2:02am Sunday morning, shots rang out inside the club and witnesses said it was about 20 or 30 shots. People started fleeing through the exits and at some point the shooter is supposed to have exited the building only to run into the off-duty uniformed Orlando police officer who was working security that night. They exchanged gunfire and the shooter went back into the club. No substantial injuries have been reported to law enforcement officers by officials.

From there it get kind of fuzzy.

It is said that they suspected they had a hostage situation on their hands in the dark nightclub. More club guests were still in the building, some sending out Tweets as they hid.

The law enforcement teams massed outside for the next 3 hours and then, the decision was made to breech and make entry into the club in order to “prevent further loss of life”

What has not been made clear is whether or not there was gunfire heard by officers during those three hours they were waiting outside. Which is an important detail.

Somewhere around 5am officers breached the building with flash-bangs and apparently some explosive device that took out a section of the exterior wall.

After that, there was a sustained gun-battle with the shooter and he was reported dead sometime around 5:45am.

Bodies still remain inside at 8:30am. They are concerned about what they call a “device” on the body of the shooter. They seem to know his identity but have not released that information.

Whether or not it is connected with the shooting from the night before has not been made public.

Neither has the motive.

They are reporting that the venue holds about 300 at capacity. With 20 dead and another 42 wounded (or otherwise injured), that’s a pretty high percentage for a shooter firing “20 to 30 rounds“.

Could it be LEOs mistook fleeing victims for a shooter in the dark nightclub at 5am in the morning? Remains to be seen.

There were early reports of a second shooter but it seems someone may have been talking about the officer outside firing at the shooter as he exited the building. Again, remains to be seen.

Here’s a photo reportedly of a victim from the shooting.

The #Pulse Twitter feed is riddled with gun-grabber Tweets already. Debbie Wasserman Schultz has taken some time off from stealing the nomination from Bernie Sanders in order to rant about there having been some 300 or so mass casualty shootings in the US in 2015.

It’s being called an act of domestic terrorism though no information has been released as of yet supporting that claim. That doesn’t stop the Islamaphobes from blaming the Muslims already...

... UPDATES:

9:06am Now they are saying he had multiple handguns and that there were as many as 100 club-goers still in the building at 2 am. Witnesses said they heard “50 or more” shots fired when officers breached at 5. A hundred club-goers in Pulse when this took place and 20 dead, 42 injured? That’s an even higher percentage, is it not?
9:38am The mother of some assumed victim who’s spending an awful lot of time in front of CNN cameras, now says her missing son texted her “he’s rounded us up and now he’s going to kill us“. Seems kind of odd that a shooter would round them up and let them send out texts or Tweets before he does them in. All very dramatic and heartbreaking, isn’t it
9:44am Some fake “ISIS” accounts (probable Islamaphobes working for Rita Katz) are praising the attacks already.
9:47am NYPD counter-terrorism task force is reportedly “aiding” in the Orlando “investigation”
9:47am Shooter identified as Omar Mateen, born in New York and currently living in Port St. Lucie, Florida.
9:55am Shooter supposedly lived in Fort Pierce for a couple years prior to last night. He was a registered Democrat. His parents are both from Afghanistan. He was born in New York in 1986. [see photo of suspected shooter at beginning of article]...

Pulse Mass Casualty Event: Largest Mass Casualty Event in US History

UPDATE: Apparently the suspect liked taking pictures of himself for his Myspace account wearing NYPD shirts, had a Florida security guard license and a firearm license and worked as a security guard at a local facility for juveniles. His ex-wife he used to beat her for not doing the dishes. So this means the “mental hygiene” laws will have to also apply to people who already have their firearms legally when they decide who gets to have/keep them.

UPDATE: Someone on Twitter asked me why there wasn’t more witness statements on-line or on the news and I remembered reading about the police rounding up all the witnesses and putting them on buses and taking them to the police station so they could be (told?) asked what they saw.

UPDATE: Mother of some missing guy is still making videos for ABC, still weeping. She says there are bodies inside the hospital that are unidentified and some in critical care who are still unidentified… yet here she is, outside on the street, talking to the press? I would be shoving my way through those doors at the hospital trying to see if my kid were on some gurney somewhere or on a slab. What is she doing talking to the press? And why is she acting like she’s weeping? Sorrow, you might think, would have given way to anger for me at this point. Why still weeping or acting like she’s weeping?

It is now officially the mass casualty event to end all mass casualty events in the United States.

Police in Orlando are reporting there are 50 dead in the Pulse nightclub with another 52 injured in local hospitals. Those numbers are up from 20 dead and 42 wounded released earlier this morning.

The officer at the press conference said there was some shooting at 2:02am inside the club (witnesses said between 20 and 30 rounds fired) and then some shooting that took place outside between gunman and officers and then the next shot fired were when the SWAT team breached the club at 5am.

It was reported that as many as 100 club-goers where inside when the suspect, Omar Mateen, born in New York and currently living in Port St. Lucie, Florida , went back into the club and the standoff started.

Police officials praised SWAT team members who entered the building at 5 am and saved “30 potential victims”

The same official said there had been “some communications” between the shooter and police during the 3 hour standoff but made it clear, there had been no more gunshots heard coming from inside the club during that time.

Omar was reportedly “on the radar” of terrorism officials, but no evidence of that has been released as of yet.

It is unknown how the shooter got into the club wearing a vest (and mask?) and carrying an assault rifle considering the officer outside the door would have seen him enter.

The bodies are still inside the club. Live footage from a helicopter does not show large numbers of vehicles on the scene to transport bodies.

This makes it the largest American Gladio op thus far. Officials are already saying this is “enough” and comprehensive “common sense” gun control measures need to be put in place “so this is the last mass casualty event we will have to suffer”

As you know, “common sense” gun control laws are those sponsored and supported by Billionaire Bloomberg and they involve a national “mental hygiene” law that will include a panel of technocrats in all states who decide if your mind is right enough to be allowed access to your second amendment rights. Those decisions will NOT be based on psychological evaluations done by mental health professionals, as that kind of restriction already exists. These decisions will be based on things like online comments, Facebook posts, political ideology and other forms of communications as opposed to some other form of official event or crime that separates people from their right to bear arms.

It's comforting to see the right-wing back at it again - ignoring the fundamental sickness of American society and blaming violence on structured, organized government ops. What better way to rally Liberals to support more gun control than by shooting up a gay nightclub . . . wait, that doesn't really make sense does it? Nope.

Ah, good, I was really lamenting the lack of informed, professional grief analysis here on RI. Also been a real dearth of experienced law enforcement veterans dissecting the work of officers in the field. Both of those droughts are very much over. Praise God.

Negotiations in a hostage situation are driven by policy, not strategy. America is a deeply schizophrenic country, and our Praetorian Guards are indeed hampered by the humanist considerations of democracy -- not to mention the optics of rushing into a situation and getting both hostages and LEOs killed. Technology is a tool, not a magic solution. Having a machine that can see through walls isn't going to coordinate dozens of people for you, nor give you a game plan to approach the shooter. "Rush in there and kill him" disappears as an option as soon as the scene gets cordoned off and the streets get cleared; once Federal brass shows up you'd just be ending your career by flagrantly disobeying your god-damned orders.

Three hours of prep and planning and they still had someone get shot in the fucking head when they went in.

Back in 2012, we started limning the contours of the mandatory and rote sequence of Overton Window responses to mass casualty events involving US or UK citizens. Those have not changed since and won't for some time. Same show, new season.

Good christ. I will say that RT broke the story first. Took about the better of a half an hour for US sources to catch up. I never watch RT for the most part and just happened to be flipping channels so sorta stayed up all night. I cannot believe 50 people. Most of the 53 hospitalized they say are critical.

Truly, no words.

Early Sunday, Santa Monica police received a call of a suspected prowler near Olympic Boulevard and 11th Street. Patrol officers responded and encountered an individual who told officers he was waiting for a friend. That led officers to inspect the car and find several weapons and a lot of ammunition as well as tannerite, an ingredient that could be used to create a pipe bomb.

The car had Indiana plates. The man was arrested and made comments that he was in town for the Pride event in West Hollywood this weekend. The festival is going ahead with tightened security, and police are looking for the friend mentioned by the suspect.

Lindenhurst man accused of having pipe bombs at home facing federal charges
State's Attorney: Lindenhurst pipe bomb suspect wrote he wanted to kill
Michael Suopys, 28, of Lindenhurst was arrested May 20 after police said they recovered pipe bombs in his home.
Jim NewtonContact Reporter

The U.S. Attorney's Office has taken over prosecution of a Lindenhurst man arrested last month when investigators found bombs in his home, as well as a journal that officials said described a desire to kill multiple people.

Michael Suopys, 28, of the 800th block of Jefferson Drive, was arrested May 20 after police recovered pipe bombs in his home. Authorities said the pipe bombs were real and were taken by a bomb squad to a range where they were "rendered safe."

Suopys had also written in a journal recovered by investigators that he wanted to kill multiple people and himself, Lake County State's Attorney Michael Nerheim said after the arrest

The federal criminal complaint alleges that Suopys built two pipe bombs by filling a metal pipe with Nitrocellulose, a highly explosive substance, and adding a wick. The federal charge carries a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000.

Suopys told authorities he decided that he needed to make "grenades" because he was unable to legally purchase firearms due to mental health issues, Nerheim said.

Nerheim had also said that Suopys told authorities he felt he needed weapons because he was concerned that "the government" may be coming after him.

The journal was found during a search of his home, which Nerheim said also revealed that he had a physics degree from UIC, and had set up a lab in his bedroom where he was in the process of manufacturing substances used to form nitrocellulose, a highly explosive compound
