From a great height he's looking down on his city at night
From gilded room of gold, marble and soft perfume
And he's proud to say he built his fortune the old-fashioned way
Because to succeed there's only one thing you really need
A million dollar loan
Nobody makes it on their own without
A million dollar loan
You'll reap what you've sown from
A million dollar loan
Call your father on the phone and get that
Million dollar loan
His enemies can't contain the flames of jealousy
With brutish charm the women flock to be on his arm
Because it's a sign of weakness to apologize
And he counter sues from any corner he's backed into
A million dollar loan
Nobody makes it on their own without
A million dollar loan
To cast the first stone you'll need
A million dollar loan
Every ascension to a throne starts with
A million dollar loan
A million dollar loan
Nobody makes it on their own without
A million dollar loan
You'll reap what you've sown from
A million dollar loan
Call your father on the phone and get that
Million dollar loan
A siren screams through the city as he falls asleep
The campaign begins again at the break of day
A million dollar loan
Nobody makes it on their own without
A million dollar loan
To cast the first stone you'll need
A million dollar loan
Every ascension to a throne starts with
A million dollar loan
A million dollar loan
Nobody makes it on their own without
A million dollar loan
You'll reap what you've sown from
A million dollar loan
Call your father on the phone and get that
Million dollar loan
ELECTION 2016
Dave Eggers Unveils Awesome Collaboration with Major Music Bands to Fight Trump: '30 Days, 30 Songs'
The first song paints Trump as a pathetic character set to a catchy melody.
By Jenny Pierson / AlterNet October 11, 2016
Amid gaggles of celebrity endorsements for Hillary Clinton and condemnations of racist, sexist, xenophobic Donald Trump this election season, the new "30 Days, 30 Songs" campaign led by McSweeney's founder and author of A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius Dave Eggers stands out for its catchy tunes. Major music acts including R.E.M., Aimee Mann and Death Cab for Cutie are recording original songs, one of which will be released every day until election day, November 8.
The first original song, "Million Dollar Loan" by Death Cab for Cutie (indie-turned-huge star darlings of The O.C. soundtrack fame), was released Monday, along with a dark and broody music video. The video features a Trump lookalike alone in a bustling city, silhouetted with his face turned down when he's not shown preaching at a rally.

Death Cab for Cutie is a band known for its introspective lyrics and sad-tinged indie melodies, and the new song applies these features to take Trump to task for the much criticized, self-described "small loan" of $1 million he received from his father to start his business empire. All in all it portrays Trump as a sad emo kid as a wall is literally built around him in his solitude. Sad!
The "30 Days, 30 Songs" site explains the motivation for the project:
"As artists, we are united in our desire to speak out against the ignorant, divisive, and hateful campaign of Donald Trump. We will not be duped by Mr. Trump’s rhetorical contortions, by his pandering and lies and false promises. He has shown the content of his character time and time again, and the very fact of his candidacy is a blight on the nation. His words incite hatred and celebrate inequity."
The site also features praise of Hillary Clinton and personalized notes to "supporters of Bernie Sanders" ("Bernie Sanders is no longer running for president," the site states matter-of-factly), "environmentalists" (Donald Trump wants to "eliminate the Environmental Protection Agency"), "feminists who can't get behind HIllary" ("elect the first woman president in the history of the United States"), "those who care about Muslim-Americans, Mexican-Americans, immigrants, and humanity," "people who care about transparency in government," and "Obama supporters not feeling it for Clinton."
"30 Days, 30 Songs" describes itself as "an independent website... produced by the creators of 90 Days, 90 Reasons, which sought to motivate voters to give President Obama a second term."

That bastard making fun of me in front of all my peers
Those people think I own this town, you’re stripping all my gears
Well guess what Mr. President, I’ll be seeing you
In four years
Though on the campaign trail the papers paint me like a clown
Still all I see are crowds who want to fit me for a crown
I point out all my enemies just so my fans
Bring them down
Isn’t anybody going to stop me?
I don’t want this job
I don’t want this job, my god
Can’t you tell
I’m unwell
You try to pin me down but you don’t really try that hard
I throw out any shit I want and no one trumps that card
So dazzled and distracted by your fantasy
Of Hildegard
Isn’t anybody going to stop me?
I don’t want this job
I don’t want this job, my god
Can’t you tell
I’m unwell
You ask about my plan but baby my plan is to win
I wind up all the tops and watch the others keep the spin
You handing me grenades is just compelling me
To pull the pin
Isn’t anybody going to stop me?
I don’t want this job
I can’t do this job, my god
Can’t you tell
I’m unwell
