Jesus Christ Superstar -

Don't Know How To Love Him

I don't know how to love him
What to do, how to move him
I've been changed, yes really changed
In these past few days

When I've seen myself
I seem like someone else
I don't know how to take this
I don't see why he moves me

He's a man
He's just a man
And I've had so many
Men before

In very many ways
He's just one more
Should I bring him down
Should I scream and shout
Should I speak of love

Let my feelings out?
I never thought I'd come to this
What's it all about?
Don't you think it's rather funny

I should be in this position?
I'm the one
Who's always been
So calm so cool

No lover's fool
Running every show
He scares me so
I never thought I'd come to this

What's it all about?
Yet
If he said he loved me
I'd be lost

I'd be frightened
I couldn't cope
Just couldn't cope
I'd turn my head

I'd back away
I wouldn't want to know
He scares me so
I want him so
I love him so

A great deal of tradition surrounds the life of Dr. Luke, which is
needless for us to examine in a brief analysis. He writes his Gospel
from Mary’s viewpoint, which confirms the tradition that he got his
information for his Gospel from her. Surely he conferred with her.
Also there is every reason to believe that he was a Gentile. Most
scholars concur in this position. Paul, in Colossians, distinguishes
between those “who are of the circumcision” (Colossians 4:11) and
the others who are obviously Gentiles. Luke is in the list of Gentiles
(Colossians 4:14). Sir William Ramsay and J. M. Stifler affirm without
reservation that Luke was a Gentile.
References to Luke: Colossians 4:14; 2 Timothy 4:11; Philemon
24; also the “we” section of Acts — Acts 16:10-17; 20:6; 21:18; 27:1;
28:16.
THEME: “Behold the Man”
Jesus is the second man but the last Adam (1 Corinthians 15:45, 47).
God is making men like Jesus (1 John 3:2), therefore Jesus is the second
man — for there will be the third and even the millionth. He is
the last Adam, as there will not be another head of the human family.
Jesus was “made like his brethren” (Hebrews 2:17) that His brethren
might be made like Him.

Elihu, do I take this interpretation to mean that he was "just" a man? Or that he was literally the divine made flesh (and thus special)? Or that he was just a man, physically, but that we all carry the divine within us and he just brought it out as a prime example?

past, present and still to come, literally the divine become a human man Jesus. He is the Son of his human mother and tbc...

Some people say Jesus that's their ace in the hole,
but I never met the man so I don't really know.
Maybe some Christmas when I'm sick and alone,
he will look up my number and call me on the phone and say,
"Hey, boy, where you been so long?
Don't you know me?
I'm your ace in the hole."

Two hundred dollars, that's my ace in the hole.
When I'm down, dirty, and desperate, that's my emergency bank roll.
I got two hundred dollars, that's the price on the street.
If you wanna get some quality, that's the price you got to meet.

The Replacements

Can't Hardly Wait

I'll write you a letter tomorrow
Tonight I can't hold a pen
Someone's got a stamp that I can borrow
I promise not to blow the address again

Lights that flash in the evening,
Through a crack in the drapes

Jesus rides beside me
He never buys any smokes

Hurry up, hurry up, ain't you had enough of this stuff
Ashtray floors, dirty clothes, and filthy jokes

See you're high and lonesome
Try and try and try

Lights that flash in the evening,
Through a hole in the drapes
I'll be home when I'm sleeping
I can't hardly wait

I can't wait. Hardly wait.

Hard to believe its almost a year ago he moved on to become a blackstar......

Word on a Wing

David Bowie

In this age of grand illusion
You walked into my life
Out of my dreams
I don't need another change
Still you forced your way
Into my scheme of things

You say we're growing,
Growing heart and soul
In this age of grand illusion
You walked into my life
Out of my dreams
Sweet name, you're born once again for me
Sweet name, you're born once again for me
Oh sweet name, I call you again
You're born once again for me
Just because I believe, don't mean I don't think as well
Don't have to question everything
In heaven or hell

Lord, I kneel and offer you
My word on a wing
And I'm trying hard to fit
Among your scheme of things

It's safer than a strange land
But I still care for myself
And I don't stand in my own light
Lord, Lord, my prayer flies
Like a word on a wing
My prayer flies
Like a word on a wing
Does my prayer fit in
With your scheme of things?

In this age of grand illusion
You walked into my life
Out of my dreams
Sweet name, you're born once again for me
Just as long as I can see, I'll never stop this vision flowing
I look twice and you're still flowing
Just as long as I can walk
I'll walk beside you, I'm alive in you
Sweet name, you're born once again for me
And I'm ready to shape the scheme of things

Ooh, ready to shape
The scheme of things
Ooh, ready to shape
The scheme of things
Ooh, ready to shape
The scheme of things
Ooh, ready to shape
The scheme of things

Lord, I kneel and offer you
My word on a wing
And I'm trying hard to fit
Among your scheme of things

It's safer than a strange land,
But I still care for myself
And I don't stand in my own light

Lord, Lord, Lord, my prayer flies
Like a word on a wing
And I'm trying hard to fit
Among your scheme of things

It's safer than a strange land,
But I still care for myself
And I don't stand in my own light

Lord, Lord, my prayer flies
Like a word on a wing
My prayer flies like a word on a wing
Does my prayer fit in
With your scheme of things?

Isaiah 7

14Therefore the Lord Himself giveth to you a sign, Lo, the Virgin is conceiving, And is bringing forth a son, And hath called his name Immanuel, 15Butter and honey he doth eat, When he knoweth to refuse evil, and to fix on good.

Luke 1

46And Mary said, ‘My soul doth magnify the Lord,

47And my spirit was glad on God my Saviour,

48Because He looked on the lowliness of His maid-servant, For, lo, henceforth call me happy shall all the generations,

49For He who is mighty did to me great things, And holy [is] His name,

50And His kindness [is] to generations of generations, To those fearing Him,

51He did powerfully with His arm, He scattered abroad the proud in the thought of their heart,

52He brought down the mighty from thrones, And He exalted the lowly,

53The hungry He did fill with good, And the rich He sent away empty,

54He received again Israel His servant, To remember kindness,

55As He spake unto our fathers, To Abraham and to his seed — to the age.’

56And Mary remained with her about three months, and turned back to her house.

Luke 2

42and when he became twelve years old, they having gone up to Jerusalem, according to the custom of the feast, 43and having finished the days, in their returning the child Jesus remained behind in Jerusalem, and Joseph and his mother did not know, 44and, having supposed him to be in the company, they went a day’s journey, and were seeking him among the kindred and among the acquaintances, 45and not having found him, they turned back to Jerusalem seeking him. 46And it came to pass, after three days, they found him in the temple, sitting in the midst of the teachers, both hearing them and questioning them, 47and all those hearing him were astonished at his understanding and answers. 48And, having seen him, they were amazed, and his mother said unto him, ‘Child, why didst thou thus to us? lo, thy father and I, sorrowing, were seeking thee.’ 49And he said unto them, ‘Why [is it] that ye were seeking me? did ye not know that in the things of my Father it behoveth me to be?’ 50and they did not understand the saying that he spake to them, 51and he went down with them, and came to Nazareth, and he was subject to them, and his mother was keeping all these sayings in her heart,

52and Jesus was advancing in wisdom, and in stature, and in favour with God and men.

John 1

19And this is the testimony of John, when the Jews sent out of Jerusalem priests and Levites, that they might question him, ‘Who art thou?’ 20and he confessed and did not deny, and confessed — ‘I am not the Christ.’ 21And they questioned him, ‘What then? Elijah art thou?’ and he saith, ‘I am not.’ — ‘The prophet art thou?’ and he answered, ‘No.’ 22They said then to him, ‘Who art thou, that we may give an answer to those sending us? what dost thou say concerning thyself?’ 23He said, ‘I [am] a voice of one crying in the wilderness: Make straight the way of the Lord, as said Isaiah the prophet.’

24And those sent were of the Pharisees, 25and they questioned him and said to him, ‘Why, then, dost thou baptize, if thou art not the Christ, nor Elijah, nor the prophet?’ 26John answered them, saying, ‘I baptize with water, but in midst of you he hath stood whom ye have not known, this one it is who is coming after me, who hath been before me, 27of whom I am not worthy that I may loose the cord of his sandal.’

I am happy and gratified to see the many RI posters that express appreciation toward the divine and sacred. I personally think of the divine as the subtle underpinning of being and feel that a better life is to be lived when one takes direction from 'what brought you to the game', rather than to 'work magic' to bend the divine toward your will.

But Jesus Christ specifically? My opinion, and sleep will not be lost if the reality of the situation turns out different, is that the Romans needed to blunt Jewish resistance and to create more universal religious expressions so that commerce would be encouraged. I assume that some bureaucrat contracted the services of some truly wise people to synthesize a new framework out of the existing traditions. With editorial rights retained by the contracting parties of course.

People are insecure and there is good reason for that in that our connection to life seems rather tenuous at times. One way we cope is to create a common framework so that we may communicate and share understanding.

People that tend to be overzealous in the maintenance of their frame are oftentimes undermining that frame because they are asserting that the frame can go past its natural limits.

So now we have come to our modern situation where technocrats are trying to create a frame that dispenses with the divine entirely. That will never happen as the attempt will cause the apocalypse that uncovers all the idiocy, deceit, and mania involved in trying to kill the Father.

Happy New Year to all.
All these things will continue as long as coercion remains a central element of our mentality.

Psalm 2

1Why have nations tumultuously assembled? And do peoples meditate vanity?

2Station themselves do kings of the earth, And princes have been united together, Against Jehovah, and against His Messiah:

3‘Let us draw off Their cords, And cast from us Their thick bands.’

4He who is sitting in the heavens doth laugh, The Lord doth mock at them.

5Then doth He speak unto them in His anger, And in His wrath He doth trouble them:

6‘And I — I have anointed My King, Upon Zion — My holy hill.’

7I declare concerning a statute: Jehovah said unto me, ‘My Son Thou [art], I to-day have brought thee forth.

8Ask of Me and I give nations — thy inheritance, And thy possession — the ends of earth.

9Thou dost rule them with a sceptre of iron, As a vessel of a potter Thou dost crush them.’

10And now, O kings, act wisely, Be instructed, O judges of earth,

11Serve ye Jehovah with fear, And rejoice with trembling.

12Kiss the Chosen One, lest He be angry, And ye lose the way, When His anger burneth but a little, O the happiness of all trusting in Him!

I always thought, when The Doobie Brothers sang, "Jesus is just alright with me.", they meant,
"He's ok... nothing special... he's just 'alright'."
