Podcast at link. I like Ames, hes a no bullshit kind of guy, and he and John Dolan do excellent work on the War Nerd podcast. Knows Putin's Russia better than 99% of the US.

For this week’s “Unauthorized Disclosure” podcast, hosts Rania Khalek and Kevin Gosztola are joined by Mark Ames, a journalist and co-host of the Radio War Nerd podcast. Ames also is the co-author of “The Exile: Sex, Drugs, and Libel in the New Russia” and “Going Postal: Rage, Murder, and Rebellion from Reagan’s Workplaces to Clinton’s Columbine and Beyond.” He worked on a satirical publication that was shut down by the Kremlin.

Ames talks about the history of the United States government’s meddling in Russia, especially how the government backed Boris Yeltsin to lead the country. He addresses the frenzy over President Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin and the complete lack of evidence of any conspiracy. He also discusses Putin and who he is as a leader and how it is ridiculous to suggest Putin is similar to Trump.

“Yeltsin was our man. We over and over boasted that everything that was going on in the ’90s was thanks to us. It was basically a colonial project,” Ames declares during the show. He says when he arrived in Russia the country believed in what the U.S. was trying to do. By the time he left, the U.S. had so “utterly destroyed” Russia that any goodwill toward America was ruined for the foreseeable future.

On the notions that Russia had anything to do with electing Trump, “I just think this is the craziest thing. I wasn’t here throughout most of the lead-up to the Iraq War, but I just remember seeing some of it and thinking this country’s lost its marbles, and they’re all kind of whipping each other into this sort of mob hysteria frenzy about something and trying to do outdo each other with more scary and lurid stories that are headed to some sort of disaster. And no one is holding back.”

“I keep thinking we’ve hit peak Russia hysteria. There’s just no fire still at the center of this smoke so it’s got to just blow away. It’s got to be over with, and then it gets a new level of crazy,” Ames shares.

The reason why this is happening is the liberal establishment, in particular, was rejected in the 2016 Election. “They lost, and they can’t handle it. It’s not uncommon that you look for an outside enemy, that you turn to some kind of xenophobia and conspiracy theory to account for it because otherwise you’ll have to say it’s my fault, it’s our fault. We screwed up.”

Yaaaawn. Geez, I'm getting tired of this. "The reason why this is happening" is too many Trump team members talked to Russians, didn't cover their tracks, and have behaved throughout like incompetent fuckwits. Nobody made up all these Russia connections from the ether to placate the 'liberal establishment.' Hillary and the DNC deserved to lose the election, they're despicable. But your boy Trump and his minions are IN REALITY simply way too connected to the Russian oligarchy and there's evidence everywhere. (Yes, so are countless Dems and the Clinton Foundation. Fuck them too, but at least they have more finesse.)

Trump is linked to oligarchs, corruption, and shady business men of all stripes - most of his connections are to good, honest, American scions of the corporate and financial world. And there's his Chinese pals, German buddies, Israeli homies, Ukranian bros, and many more.

Why is Russia special? Because hacking - and we know that's risible bs.

Russia is special because of Trump's business dealings with the Russian mob...

NOT hacking

Last time I looked mobsters are CRIMINALS!

Felix Sater needs to sit down with Whitey Bulger at this point and get some tips on how the FBI deals with their informants when they are no longer of use

The ten men arrested today are associates of the Bonanno organized crime family (source: NBC New York). But a bit of digging by the Democratic Coalition Against Trump has revealed that a lawsuit alleges that same crime family is partnered with Russian businessman Felix Sater (link). Sater has a long history of financial ties to both Donald Trump and the Russian mafia, and in fact has done prison time for his Russian mafia ties (source: Esquire). So it’s not difficult to draw a straight line from today’s arrests to Trump and Russia. But what is the FBI suddenly up to?

This was pretty funny. Reads like, "You may love the neoliberal order now, stupid lefties, but Team $ hasn't forgotten that you were enemies of capitalism. Sorry, but that's simply unforgivable."

If they have come around to the idea of a trading system underwritten by a flawed but well-intentioned hegemon, they have come around late. At least it teaches us a thing about politics. Most people do not work out their views through great deliberation and then join the corresponding tribe, they join a tribe and then go along with the corresponding views. We are social before we are political. We pick a team.

If anyone worked out their views with great deliberation, I doubt they'd join a tribe or pick a team at all.

Didn't someone say the only intelligent way to discuss politics is on all fours.

You know, robot dogs could replace humans. And we could program them to buy things. Consumerbot dogs.
Both his words and manner of speech seemed at first totally unfamiliar to me, and yet somehow they stirred memories - as an actor might be stirred by the forgotten lines of some role he had played far away and long ago.
