The U.S. has plans for an invasion from outer space, but no one expects China.

Mind you, I don't imagine for a moment that China right now has any intention of invading the U.S.—but I'll bet they're starting to think about it, just in case it becomes necessary.

I'm looking at the sweep of history; every nation seems to get its turn at exceptionalist overreach, with pretty much the same result every time. There was a Hungarian empire?—it's a joke, right?

In this case it I guess it mainly depends on how far U.S. overreach will go. China has to feel really threatened and just plain fed up. Trump is unpredictable, maybe he'll speed up the process and break the camel's back. Once things got bad enough and everyone was fed up, an invasion force would really be a coalition, if you will, of China, Russia and others, maybe even Japan.

As far as I know, China still has about five million surplus males of military age (a consequence of the one-child policy).

I tried to find a mission statement for the National Guard (the history of which is quite interesting), couldn't find one. It's now all-purpose fodder for operations at home and abroad.

Some National Air Guard bases remain open mainly because, I think, the hosting states like them.

A physical invasion would probably start with airplanes, ships later. Does the U.S. have a plan?

Don't forget the U.S. Coast Guard:

Defense Operations Program

Coast Guard forces possess the authorities, capabilities and capacity to carry out homeland security and defense operations, either under Coast Guard control or under the control of a Department of Defense Combatant Commander. The Service provides trained, equipped and mission-matched forces in support of Combatant Commanders’ initiatives as outlined in the 2008 DoD-DHS Memorandum of Agreement. Coast Guard Defense Operations include: Maritime Interception and Interdiction Operations; Military Environmental Response; Port Operations Security and Defense (including maintaining a Title 10 Reserve force and providing Aids to Navigation support for battle-space preparation); Theater Security Cooperation; Coastal Sea Control Operations (including providing DoD the only assured access in ice-covered and ice diminished waters); Rotary Wing Air Intercept Operations; Combating Terrorism Operations; and Maritime Operational Threat Response Support.

There is a US Coast Guard station located on Lake Tahoe. It is a popular assignment. Pictures and video at link.

There isn't really any point to invading the US since Americans seem perfectly capable of fighting among themselves. Just lean back and quietly fund and encourage the crazies. Possibly throw in a mop-up disguised as a humanitarian intervention at the end. A joint China-Russia peacekeeping force.

And anyway, any invasion is doomed to failure as long as Chuck Norris is still alive. The day he dies is the day you should start to worry.

Tahoe is unique in that there are secret submarine routes from the Atlantic and Pacific. :whisper:

Any substantial ground invasion would be mop-up post nuclear annihilation. Probably after some cool down. Maybe not Russia nor China or any other nuclear power. MAD.

Coast Guard Auxiliary adds layer of safety at Tahoe

Published: July 14, 2017

By Susan Wood

When it comes to those who venture out into a vast and cold Lake Tahoe, it’s good to know the ones who provide backup for emergencies have backup of their own.

The U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary achieved its 50th year in service to the Lake Tahoe region on April 20, serving as support for the station located in Tahoe City.
