The Coming Military Invasion of the United States

Postby Elvis » Sun Aug 27, 2017 4:08 pm

...by China, with others.

The first objection is always that no country will invade the U.S. militarily because they'd be fried by American nuclear weapons. That's a separate but closely related topic which I'll touch upon later.

A land invasion of the U.S. seems like a reactionary notion, ala Cold War fears, but today nobody thinks it's even a possiblility.

I think it's inevitable.

Discuss.

Not going to worry about it today. Although right now might be a good time to invade the USA.

Countries too vast and differentiated to control, controls both coasts, large friendly allies at the top and bottom, powerful military allies and bases closer to aggressor nations, largest number of private gun ownership in the world, biggest and most powerful military in the world, unpopular president of historical portions whose style and brashness may only be effective as a war president...I've been wrong before but unless a country wished to make an incredible fatal blunder (or had Independence Day Extraterrestrial allies) I'm not seeing the point. Seems smarter to drag US into it's own expensive hobby/vice of long drawn out unwinnable wars of "liberation" and cyber/economic death by a thousand cuts.

And just wait a little while!—things are bound to get worse before they get worse.

I'm not worried about a Chinese invasion either, not yet anyway. The U.S. will have to go too far and in the eyes of the world it hasn't quite done that to the extent of warrating military campaign to stop U.S. hegemony.

I should add that my hyperbolic thread title and prediction are mostly a premise to start with. I could be wrong about it, and hope so.

Thanks for listing reasons why it's unlikely; I'd like to break them out into a bullet point list:

- U.S. is too vast and differentiated to control, controls both coasts

- U.S. has large friendly allies at the top and bottom

- U.S. has powerful military allies and bases closer to aggressor nations

- U.S. has largest number of private gun ownership in the world

- U.S. has biggest and most powerful military in the world

- U.S.has unpopular president of historical portions whose style and brashness may only be effective as a war president

- Would be an incredible fatal blunder by invading countries.

- Smarter to drag U.S. into its own expensive hobby/vice of long drawn out unwinnable wars

and

- [Smarter to inflict] cyber/economic death by a thousand cuts.

I suppose we should add,

- No country would risk a U.S. nuclear response to an all-out invasion on U.S. soil.

What foreign power would be crazy enough to want to deal with over 325M Americans?

I kinda agree with Chris Knowles, that there is basically a military coup going on. The military must realize what a dundering idiot like Trump looks like to foreign countries who, while they might not outright invade the US, are certainly taking advantage of a very weak president who doesn't even fill all the State Dept. positions. Raising troop levels in Afghanistan is interesting but the true test will be Syria. I don't think you can separate neo-con war hawks from Mattis and Kelly, so what is going to be their reaction of Russia building permanent bases in Syria? As the antarctic sea opens up, you might have more direct confrontations with Russia but certainly all-out invasion is pretty hard to conceive right now...

Coastal defense in the United States is history. Literally. There isn't any.

I tried to find a mission statement for the National Guard (the history of which is quite interesting), couldn't find one. It's now all-purpose fodder for operations at home and abroad.

Some National Air Guard bases remain open mainly because, I think, the hosting states like them.

A physical invasion would probably start with airplanes, ships later. Does the U.S. have a plan?
