Any candidate from either party that has any chance to benefit the majority will never be elected. F#ck both parties.

Buttigieg is far from an exception. A photogenic and outwardly gay candidate with enough controlled smarm to be mistaken for confidence, complete with soundbites offering little more than surface-level platitudes appealing to the target demo (while at the same time repelling other demos, making him little more than a cardboard cutout destined to fall flat at the first gust of headwind).

No need for satire anymore.

an openly gay married man running for the Democratic nomination for president of the U.S. is interesting and hopeful since right now we have Pence in the WH

it a positive for women and gays and transgender

Mazars and Deutsche Bank could have ended this nightmare before it started.
They could still get him out of office.
But instead, they want mass death.

It's awesome and heartening. However, anyone but an old straight white fake Christian male would be just as awesome, and I'll take even take another old straight white fake Christian male if he proposes substantive steps to promote human rights (including the right to healthcare and a living wage), reduce inequality, and curb the worst crimes of US imperialistic excess. Bonus points for not being proffered up as groomed plastic cut out Messiah.

YMMV

I think Buttigieg would naturally tend to oppose such whistleblowing, being in Naval Intelligence and all. :whistling:

Buttjudge was already introduced as an RI subject, appropriately enough on a thread concerning the in-series manufacture of fake-progressive Democratic 2020 candidates. (That thread was initially about an earlier test model that appears to have gone dud, which you may remember, it was called the Edsel, erm, sorry, I mean: the Beto.) I have trouble seeing why we need a separate thread for every single one of the 38 goddamn fake progressive presidential model launches aimed at establishing the ABB of Neera Tanden's dreams. I thought over here we do social commentary and UFOs and shrooms, you know? This really is the shit for Democratic Underground, there is plenty of space for it there. And elsewhere. It's the whole goddamn fucking Internet.

Prediction: Beto's incapable of serving a function other than early stalking horse, a John the Baptist for the as-yet undetermined Player To Be Named Later. His function will be to distract the right-wing heat for a while, then to melt quickly.

Viewing the field for potential ABBs (Anybody But Bernie, which it is superfluous to say is also ABBOTG), and excluding the two governors on late-life benders who might have had a shot in the atmosphere of circa 1980, I had a hunch:

The Betomaniac, Prosecutor Harrisment, and Old Monster Buyed-In may become preludes to sweet young Mayor Booty Kick (actually pronounced Buddha Judge, which is even better) as the Jimmy Carter of 2020. Brainy, sophisticated and contemporary in his triangulation, with RFK-style rhetorical flourishes, he seems to believe what he says, including the bullshit position on Medicare for All and the ultra-bullshit on the Question of American Force.

I agree with Wombat about this thread, and the basis is not because there is a special, unprecedented odiousness in the product currently being media-tested as Mayor Pete for Prez (ABB!). It's just the old straw that breaks the camel's back.

WR's is an appropriate response given the altogether routine nature of this product launch, and the starting of a thread without any commentary but just copy-paste of the promotional materials already amply available and being pushed by the corporate propaganda machinery.

(This is furthermore by a user who has easily single-handedly started 2/3 or more of all new threads on this board in recent years, basically forcing the discussion toward the corporate media agenda through flooding, as though the US corporate media needed a local archive on a Canadian phpBB board, as though this is not totally superfluous. It is a great argument for limiting the total number of new threads that a user or its sock puppets can start to no more than two a month. My god, that still comes out to 24 a year!)

That being said, no meme (i.e., captioned graphic making a point about contemporary debates) is a "Facebook meme" per se, and if one wants to distribute clever ones here, what's your problem with it, WR?

No, that makes him a natural to engage in such whistleblowing on behalf of exposing and possibly ending the practice of international aggression and war crimes by the outfit to which he belongs. What Chelsea Manning did was a lot more important than someone running for president or even winning as a fake progressive who wants to do smarter wars. Mayor Pete's got a lot of potential to be the Obama type this time around -- look, he's even the tool of real estate interests in a midwestern city, just one a bit smaller than Chicago.

Anyway, I sure hope this is my last post on this thread. Thanks! We'll be here all week, try the beet-based fake-beef burger.

[edits to format -- bolds, underlines -- were performed by me]

Can we get an f'ing poll on that last underlined point, please? I believe -- and clearly, from the feedback/tangential points raised on this and many other threads, I'm not alone in this sentiment -- a limit on new threads per user, per month, is long overdue here, for a variety of reasons that should be painfully evident by now.

[Or, the mods are welcome to circumvent the poll altogether and simply implement said proposed restriction however they deem fit. I imagine most will applaud whatever measures are taken.]

Not to be crass, but considering the exposure and positive press this super, gay candidate is presently getting - from a propaganda perspective, Peter Buttigieg is simply too obviously a silly experiment slapping the constituents with his sexual proclivities to steer their acceptance of - kissing his mister in the mainstream back seat of his classic Beemer…

Oh great, another asshole Rhodes Scholar gets vomited out by the system for Democrats to get excited about.

Oh hell yes!

Plus all what Jack wrote. Pass that baggie of shrooms over would ya?

Just the mere fact that Buttwhatever worked for Naval Intel is enough to wave the red flags. If he wasn't gay he is just another ordinary white guy who worked for spookville. Doubtful that those folks ever really stop being a player in some fashion.

He also worked for McKinsey and Company, another red flag.

LOL at worrying who he worked for, who he meets with, and how his brand was launched. He's gay FFS! What more do you want? Do we have to run a black lesbian Rhodes Scholar centrist spook to please you people?

Trouble is, there is now such an extensive back catalogue of crud covering every base that a limit on 'new' threads would simply result in a flood of thread necromancy that could go on indefinitely. :wallhead:

I maintain that the best you can do, given current constraints, is to tune it out as best you can and just hope that the party responsible some day develops enough self awareness to curtail their own behaviour. Fat chance, I know, but it will still save you a lot of time.

Anyway, sorry... Pete who?
