Just had to put my cat to sleep

Postby Blue » Fri Jun 19, 2020 1:12 pm

He was only seven. He showed up in my backyard one Summer night, wailing so loudly over a really loud thunderstorm that I could hear him. Fierce little feral fucker about five weeks old. Tried to catch him for an entire day as he outmaneuvered me. When I first picked him up he shook like a mini-earthquake....never experienced that with a cat before. Then he purred and he stayed.

I know this is pretty insignificant to pretty much everyone but me, especially here.

But this is the first day I've cried in a long time. And I cry for a lot of other things: for the covid-19 victims, many because of irresponsible and criminal political fucks who allowed, if not encouraged, a pandemic to continue killing people; for BLM harassment and attacks; for the REASON for BLM movement; and damn, for the death of common sense.

We've never really had much to say to each other but I've enjoyed reading your posts over the years, just wanted to offer my sympathies Blue. It always hurts.

You'll ever learn
Is just to love
And be loved
In return"

Sympathies, Blue. Harvey's song lyrics above, about love, is the lesson animals teach us.

Sorry to hear that. I've had several cats and it always hurts when they go, even if they're furry little psychopaths.

My condolences on your loss. The loss of a pet sometimes hits us hardest because we have to bear the full brunt of the grief without the numbing shock. Take care.

Cats are totally significant. Heart goings out to you from me.
Both his words and manner of speech seemed at first totally unfamiliar to me, and yet somehow they stirred memories - as an actor might be stirred by the forgotten lines of some role he had played far away and long ago.

Very sorry for your loss Blue. Thank you for posting it here.

Cats are amazing creatures, more subtle, and no two alike.

But this is the first day I've cried in a long time. And I cry for a lot of other things...

Crying....such a healthy response. A gift. Something many need to let in when there's so much to grieve.

Condolences, Blue. Losing a kitty is one of the hardest things. Remember the joy you each brought, and that another cat who needs you may come along.

I lost my feline friend years ago. I've written about it a few times here. His name was Chomsky.

You offered someone in need comfort, shelter, compassion and it was well received.

Caring for one another, it's the most important thing we'll ever do.

My cat up and disappeared never to be seen again. I've never felt such loss in my life. You are not alone.
I've rescued some feral kittens myself. Hand nursed them with KMR (kitten milk replacement) and got them placed in a home together.

Many thanks to all of you. Logically I know I put my furry kid out of his misery but I still feel guilty for ending his life.

What happened to that Chump post with a link to an old Lounge thread about a cat he knew? I read it and was going to respond but it's gone.
