Russian-Ukrainian War: Live Thread

Postby drstrangelove » Thu Feb 24, 2022 3:21 am

Russia's declaration of war which aired live on Russian State television hours ago. Closed caption English subtitles are available.

I intend this to be a thread for collecting information to build a punditry free resource for following this situation as it unfolds. You know, like journalism was supposed to do.

A sad day. I feel silly for believing that Russia would be smarter than to do exactly what was expected of it by Western propagandists and populations hungry for a final showdown (which in reality of course will involve the dismantling of global civilization).

But then, Putin is a chauvinist thug. So there's that.

What I find most distasteful here in Finland is the almost RELIEVED and eager atmosphere of finally being able to unleash all the pent up rage at Russia with full justification. War as a sport. Humanity is ugly.

NATO Secretary General statement on Russia’s unprovoked attack on Ukraine
I strongly condemn Russia’s reckless and unprovoked attack on Ukraine, which puts at risk countless civilian lives. Once again, despite our repeated warnings and tireless efforts to engage in diplomacy, Russia has chosen the path of aggression against a sovereign and independent country.

This is a grave breach of international law, and a serious threat to Euro-Atlantic security. I call on Russia to cease its military action immediately and respect Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. NATO Allies will meet to address the consequences of Russia’s aggressive actions. We stand with the people of Ukraine at this terrible time. NATO will do all it takes to protect and defend all Allies.

NATO in emergency session as Russia attacks Ukraine
The countries closest to the conflict — Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and Poland — have triggered rare consultations under Article 4 of NATO’s founding treaty, which can be launched when “the territorial integrity, political independence or security of any of the (NATO) parties is threatened.”

Zelensky's twitter account:

We will give weapons to anyone who wants to defend the country. Be ready to support Ukraine in the squares of our cities.

We will lift sanctions on all citizens of Ukraine who are ready to defend our country as part of territorial defense with weapons in hands.

Russia treacherously attacked our state in the morning, as Nazi Germany did in #2WW years. As of today, our countries are on different sides of world history. Russia has embarked on a path of evil, but Ukraine is defending itself & won't give up its freedom no matter what Moscow thinks.

Live map of recorded military incidents: https://liveuamap.com/

Incidents are recorded based on geolocation of social media photos and videos uploaded by users on the ground. Seems fairly reliable source for people looking for warporn.

@talkRADIO
·
Phil in London says he “doesn’t care” about the situation in Ukraine and is more worried about Trudeau’s “brutal dictatorship” in Canada.

“He’s frozen bank accounts, held people without bail on charges of mischief by association. The West is silent about that.”
