I've quit smoking.

I'm using Chantix, and it works as advertised.

That's what I used, too. Miracle drug. Really no withdrawl symptoms (or, you just go through them more gradually), just getting over the psychological part of smoking wasw the hardest for me. The only other way I quit sucessfully (for more than 6 months) it was cold turkey, and that sucked.

re: miracle drugs:

the only time when i ever managed to quit for a significant portion of time was with the aid of other chemistry.

Don't tempt me, please.
The real issue is that there is extremely low likelihood that the speculations of the untrained, on a topic almost pathologically riddled by dynamic considerations and feedback effects, will offer anything new.

I've generally avoided telling people that I'm a Billy Joel fan, but his lyrical sense is fine. Always liked his music. Then again, I liked Tom Jones, K.D. Lang, Frank Sinatra, and Kid Rock.

I hang my head in shame.

Whatever. Don't listen to the anti-smoking crowd. Smoking is so totally awesome that if it didn't cause skin, lung and oral cancer, suppress the immune system and generally reduce the amount of air you can get in your lungs, you can bet the farm on me having an unfiltered hanging off my lip right now.

Unfortunately, the "if" on that clause is pretty hard to overcome, which is why I managed to quit for good years and years ago. Took about three tries and as many years to reach "for good", and I'll tell you this for free, while I think no amount of work or social stress might push me to smoke again, too many funerals in too short a time and you'd bet I'd have a pouch of that devil's leaf in front of me.

And don't believe all that 7th grade health class bullshit. Not only does (fresh) tobacco smoke smell and taste great, no matter what the fuck anyone says, smoking *always* makes you look cool. Unless it's a cigar, in which case, you should fucking kill yourself.

Nicotine by itself, when stripped away from its more toxic cousins, is actually a pretty amazing drug on many levels when used in short duration, but something about taking the danger out of it is really lame.

You're fucking right, nathan. Smoking was terrific, and I loved it dearly. But I'll never smoke again. It has become too burdensome.

You are my sunshine, maddy. Thanks.

I haven't smoked anything since 2001. Before 2001 I had quit smoking about 500 times. The reason it worked the last time was because just prior to me quiting I started coughing up blood. You really want to quit before you start coughing up blood. The cure for coughing up blood is not very pleasent and most of the time it doesn't work. I hope you succeed.
