Saddam's capture scenario fabrication fabricated?

Postby nomo » Tue Dec 20, 2005 5:47 pm

FAKE NEWS, REAL NEWS

By Paul Krassner

A media watchdog group, the Washington-based Project for Excellence in Journalism, affiliated with Columbia University, has just released its annual report on the news business, concluding that journalists should "document the reporting process more openly so that audiences can decide for themselves whether to trust it." Well, here's a case in point.

United Press International dispatched a story last week about a former U.S. Marine who participated in capturing ousted Iraqi President Saddam Hussein and said that the public version of his capture was fabricated. UPI stated:

"Ex-Sgt. Nadim Abou Rabeh, of Lebanese descent, was quoted in the Saudi daily al-Medina as saying Saddam was actually captured Friday, Dec. 12, 2003, and not the day after, as announced by the U.S. Army 'I was among the 20-man unit, including eight of Arab descent, who searched for Saddam for three days in the area of Dour near Tikrit, and we found him in a modest home in a small village and not in a hole as announced,' Abou Rabeh said. 'We captured him after fierce resistance during which a Marine of Sudanese origin was killed... Later on, a military production team fabricated the film of Saddam's capture in a hole, which was in fact a deserted well,' Abou Rabeh said."

This story definitely had the ring of falsehood. Could it possibly have been a fabrication about a fabrication? I contacted Pam Hess, the UPI Pentagon correspondent.

"My editor and I have been doing our damnedest to kill the story," she told me. "It is actually a clean pick-up from the Saudi press but obviously flawed. It came from our Lebanon desk, which translated and ran the story—standard procedures for a wire. However, this was obviously a huge story if true, and very controversial, and should have been run through me first, which it was not.

"So, the story came from UPI—but I don't recommend picking it up. Obviously fabricated. The Marines don't have records of the original source who made the claims. I have recently heard from some guy who says the fact that the dates (the fruit) were yellow in the background suggest that Saddam was captured and filmed earlier than December—but I'm not sure that rises to the level of reportable."

The story had already been reported by various local media and Internet listservs. Harry Shearer read it on his syndicated radio program, Le Show. When I informed him of its fictional nature, he thanked me for the heads-up and added, "Interesting that they'll run it on their wire before checking it."

Especially since it's "obviously fabricated."

The most significant aspect of this hoax is that, in the wake of an increasing incredibility of real news, there is an increasing credibility of fake news.

www.nypress.com/18/12/new...assner.cfm

Saddam and his capture

Postby rapt » Tue Dec 20, 2005 7:07 pm

Dig up some prewar footage of Saddam and find a clear shot of his ear details. Now compare with similar view of the guy standing trial.

I have seen comparative ear pics on a piece by Vialls. bless his soul, which were to be taken as proof that the real Saddam was sent off to Russia before/during the invasion (with plenty of cash) as part of a deal to walk or fly away with no opposition.

It would be very interesting to double-check this premise and confirm or deny it. Given what we know about the likelihood of falsehood (ten-to-one likely) I'd be surprised if the guy before the judge in Baghdad is the real thing.

Fake? Re: Saddam and his capture

Postby StarmanSkye » Tue Dec 20, 2005 7:55 pm

I'm glad to see this issue get an airing -- comparison of pre-capture photos of Saddam with the guy the Pentagon allegedly captured show a buncha anomalies. Also, the super-quick (less than 24 hours) results of the DNA test the Pentagon claimed to have done which confirmed they had the right guy are very odd -- Why didn't the Pentagon allow independant labs to confirm results? How can anyone believe official sources anymore, following the abysmal Jessica Lynch 'rescue' propaganda scam and dozens of other obvious lies? Why hasn't the Pentagon acknowledged the issue of Saddam doubles, which is common knowledge?

Questions ...
Starman

www.atsnn.com/story/125731.html

(With photos comparing apparently 'different' Saddam Husseins, one with sunken eyes, flat cheekbones and seriously stained, uneven lower teeth that doesn't jive with known photos of the 'real' Saddam):

Spokespersons for The Pentagon have come forward to deny allegations by a former U.S Marine that the December 13, 2003"spider hole" capture of Saddam Hussein was fabricated. In a Saudi Arabian newspaper interview published Tuesday, Ex-Sgt. Nadim Abou Rabeh claimed to have participated in the discovery and capture of Saddam Hussein at a modest home in a small village in the area of Dour on December 12th.

original news source:
www.woai.com
Pentagon officials dismissed as ridiculous and untrue a report that the capture of Saddam Hussein in Iraq was staged.

A Saudi Arabian newspaper reported Tuesday that a former U.S. Marine, now living in Lebanon, claimed the Iraqi dictator had been captured earlier by a small team of troops, and forced into the now famous spider hole to play a role in a film fabricated by the U.S. military to make Saddam look bad.

The newspaper al-Medina said former-Marine Sgt. Nadim Abou Rabeh claimed Saddam Hussein was caught by a 20-man unit a day before the Army said he was captured. Rabeh said Saddam Hussein was found in a house, and a gun battle ensued that killed one of Marine

Please visit the link provided for the complete story.

Fifteen months after the event, controversy continues to surround the capture of the deposed Iraqi dictator. At the time of writing, "Ex-Sgt." Nadim Abou Rabeh's enlistment in the U.S marines has neither been confirmed or disproven, however Pentagon officials have not made any statements to refute the fact.

The report by the "Al-Medina" newspaper has only added to the list of debates regarding Saddam's capture and subsequent trial. Readers may be aware of the aspersions of doubt cast as to the true identity of the man presented to the world as Saddam Hussein following his capture. Claims of a "fake Saddam" arose, with apparent differences between the dental condition of the "spider-hole" Saddam and file footage of the dictator being cited.

Without commenting on differences in facial features, as can clearly be seen in the above photo comparisons, the captured Saddam (on the left in both photographs) has extremely irregular lower-jaw teeth and a pronounced "underbite", a condition where the lower jaw and teeth protrude beyond the upper jaw. Conversely, file pictures of Hussein before the invasion show a man possessing set of near-perfect teeth with a "regal" overbite, the teeth of the upper jaw protruding slightly in front of the lower. The reader is left to make his or her own conclusions, but the question must be asked: Can dental condition be reasonably expected to deteriorate to such an extent over such a short length of time?

Reports have even surfaced of Hussein's wife, Sajida Heiralla Tuffa, after eventually being allowed to see her husband claiming that the person she encountered was in fact not her husband, but his double.
Mrs. Saddam says defendant Saddam is not her Saddam .

Has the capture of Hussein been one big propoganda sham? And if so, then to what end?

In related news, a judge on the special tribunal to put Hussein and certain regime members on trial in Baghdad was assassinated in northern Baghdad's Azamyiah district on Tuesday, the same day as the release of the Saudi newspaper report regarding the staging of Saddam's capture.
Judge in Saddam Trial Murdered

Related News Links:
www.worldnetdaily.com
www.wokr13.tv
www.worldnetdaily.com

*****
More:

Peter Aveyard: Will the real Saddam please stand up?
A new Saddam arrived dressed in full combat gear, sunglasses and soldiers helmet
whilst the fake Saddam was lead away. I heard the rumor that Saddam went to Montana, not Russia... whatever.

Another thing I read about-- and checked up on myself-- was the comment that the date trees were heavy in fruit on the video of S.H. being pulled out of that hole... that would mean August, not November. --MaryK

Hugh Manatee Wins:

Just tried the link, www.atsnn.com/story/125731.html,
and it's up and working for me, with the Saddam side-by-side photos, also repeated in the body of comments following the post. I find it slightly odd that there haven't been posted links to additional photos comparing 'different' Saddams -- But then, I haven't made a concerted search for such. I'm sure the basic photo-spread shown on this link is repeated on dozens of websites -- I first saw this report pretty shortly after 'Saddam' (or whoever he is) was captured. I'm pretty skeptical of every 'official' "news" release by the Pentagon and White House, or seen on MSM. I trust 'em about as far as I can throw 'em.

Naomi Klein's Jan. 2004 article posted in the Nation (www.thenation.com/doc/20040126/klein) mentioned the report at the time of several news sources including the Sunday Herald that Saddam was actually captured by a Kurdish Special Forces unit -- which would *seem* to conform in aspects to the recent report of an ex-Marine now living in Lebanon (itself also reflecting the Pentagon's hypocrisy, employing "foreigners" to fight in their mercenary army while demonizing foreign troops fighting in or on behalf of the Iraq resistance).

And so it goes ...
Starman

On edit:

Edited by: StarmanSkye at: 12/21/05 8:27 am
