wife's book request

Postby Nordic » Sat Aug 06, 2011 4:18 pm

hey, this is kind of out of the blue, but this speaks to how impressed i am with people at this forum.

my wife is looking for a book for some summer reading. she has a specific mileau in mind.

fiction. must take place in paris, taking place between 1914 and 1930. selfish and desirable female protagonist.

i told her the people at this place could probably come up with suggestions.

she's an english major and a damn fine writer herself.

Neither is fiction, but both Ernest Hemingway's A moveable feast and Anaïs Nin's Henry and June sprang to mind. Both writers are terrific at describing the city at that time. I prefer Hemingway for the prose but Nin definitely has the selfish and desirable female protagonist.

Chéri by Colette.

Edit: Belle Epoch period is before the time frame specified by your wife, but it's still exquisite.
