Houston Hits 15th Straight Day of 100 Plus Heat
by Chris Dolce
Thunderstorm Outlook
Houston reaches its 15th consecutive day of 100 degree or higher heat. The previous record was 14 days in July of 1980.

Houston hit 100 degrees Fahrenheit on Monday for the 15th consecutive day in a row. That means that so far every single day for the month of August has been exceptionally hot.

Sunday was the 14th consecutive day in a row with 100+ degree temperatures. This tied the longest streak of 100-degree days on record, when there were 14 consecutive days of 100 degree heat or more in July of 1980. Monday's 100-degree reading broke this record.

For the year, Houston has seen a total of twenty-six 100-degree days. On average, the city usually only sees around 5 days with 100-degree heat per year.

We haven't got a thread specific to heatwaves, why don't we make this it. Thread proliferation hates history!

It would be particularly important for us to limit our emissions of greenhouse gases, since atmospheric composition can be observed from other planets," the authors write.

No Need to Panic About Global Warming
There's no compelling scientific argument for drastic action to 'decarbonize' the world's economy.

JANUARY 27, 2012

WSJ Editor's Note: The following has been signed by the 16 scientists listed at the end of the article:

In spite of a multidecade international campaign to enforce the message that increasing amounts of the "pollutant" carbon dioxide will destroy civilization, large numbers of scientists, many very prominent, share the opinions of Dr. Giaever. And the number of scientific "heretics" is growing with each passing year. The reason is a collection of stubborn scientific facts.

Perhaps the most inconvenient fact is the lack of global warming for well over 10 years now. This is known to the warming establishment, as one can see from the 2009 "Climategate" email of climate scientist Kevin Trenberth: "The fact is that we can't account for the lack of warming at the moment and it is a travesty that we can't." But the warming is only missing if one believes computer models where so-called feedbacks involving water vapor and clouds greatly amplify the small effect of CO2.

The lack of warming for more than a decade—indeed, the smaller-than-predicted warming over the 22 years since the U.N.'s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) began issuing projections—suggests that computer models have greatly exaggerated how much warming additional CO2 can cause. Faced with this embarrassment, those promoting alarm have shifted their drumbeat from warming to weather extremes, to enable anything unusual that happens in our chaotic climate to be ascribed to CO2.

-snip-

Although the number of publicly dissenting scientists is growing, many young scientists furtively say that while they also have serious doubts about the global-warming message, they are afraid to speak up for fear of not being promoted—or worse. They have good reason to worry. In 2003, Dr. Chris de Freitas, the editor of the journal Climate Research, dared to publish a peer-reviewed article with the politically incorrect (but factually correct) conclusion that the recent warming is not unusual in the context of climate changes over the past thousand years. The international warming establishment quickly mounted a determined campaign to have Dr. de Freitas removed from his editorial job and fired from his university position. Fortunately, Dr. de Freitas was able to keep his university job.

This is not the way science is supposed to work, but we have seen it before—for example, in the frightening period when Trofim Lysenko hijacked biology in the Soviet Union. Soviet biologists who revealed that they believed in genes, which Lysenko maintained were a bourgeois fiction, were fired from their jobs. Many were sent to the gulag and some were condemned to death.

Yes, well who is going to let science get in the way of the good new time religion?

Remember, it is mainly hateful racist people like the CATO institute, Koch Bros and NEO-CONFEDERATES that think they can challenge the SETTLED science of AGW. Anybody that shares thoughts with those folk must surely also be racist. Come-on now, get in the game.

Geez man, where you been. Like maybe it's time for you to get on your bike and ride.

National Geographic 2011 Among Hottest Years, Marked by Extreme Weather

NASA2010 Tied for Warmest Year on Record

But worry not, the Wall Street Journal has an opinion piece that says not to worry.

Yo, BenD - hows that flooding going in Brisbane (& down into NSW)? Same as last year but no deaths (yet), how about that, lucky all those old folks turned out of the caravan parks along the Tweed have the WSJ to reassure them. Are you above the 1 in 50 or 1 in 200 year flood line, and do you have a boat, lol.

From what I can see the current denialist position seems to be that 'ocean acidification' is what the warmistas turn to when their CACC arguments start to falter.

Those sources provide evidence it is. [url=http://www.bom.gov.au/climate/current/annual/wa/perth.shtml]Hottest year ever in my home town[url], 32C there right now at 9pm local time, i'm on other side of continent and its 28C at 11pm.
Do you have evidence that you are able to provide and discuss that suggests otherwise?

No, ocean acidification is a well known destabilising change in ocean chemistry that has only one credible driver/culprit for its acceleration, co2 emmisions. It bypasses all the temp data cherrypicking that Kinninmouth etc do to earn their keep with the Heartland Institute/Exxon etc.

Isn't this fun, we haven't danced this dance in simply ages.. :|

It's a kinda statistically predictable result from a mototonically increasing graph of temperature trend. I was wondering why you were pointing it out.

Are you contrasting that with global warming?

Gee, I wonder what will be considered to be the greatest threat life on earth in five or ten years?

Lets ponder, would it be poisoning our environment, including our bodies, through GMO's, glyphosates, growing food in dead soil, constant dumping of industrial waste, fluoride, fracking, all or any of these things--- or CO2

You make the call wintler2, where should 'environmentalists' be spending their time? Should they be writing papers that say we need to tax carbon so that we may avert a future yet assured catastrophe? Good hook for the grant app. that there. 'Give me a little and I will justify your ability to get a whole lot more money, yes we have a winner'.

Or here, consider this option. Lets have environmental scientists study any and all aspects of environment so that we might respect the abode of our being in its essence and totality rather than as an eviscerated empty form that only serves to provide the illusion of righteousness.

I remain yours truly, suitably to be ignored

Report: Fallout from Fukushima coincides with spike in Boise infant mortality rate

Quote:

By Mac King

CREATED Jan. 23, 2012

The aftermath of the tsunami that ransacked the Japanese coast led to one of the worst nuclear meltdowns in the history of the world. Now, two researchers believe it may also have played some role in killing tens of thousands of Americans.

“[It’s] 155,000 deaths,” Joseph Mangano said, ”so we’re not talking about an increase from three to five deaths. We’re talking about quite a few.”

Mangano works at the Radiation and Public Health Project. The report he co-authored for a medical journal suggesting a link between Fukushima fallout and an increase in deaths in the United States has stirred up some controversy.

“The authors appeared to start at a conclusion,” Scientific American’s Michael Moyer wrote, “ – babies are dying because of Fukushima radiation – and work backwards, torturing their data to fit their claims.”

But Mangano said his critics miss the point.

“We have not stated conclusively that Fukushima fallout killed 22,000 Americans,” he said.

Instead, he and co-author Dr. Jannette Sherman cite numbers from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's weekly morbidity report. That data showed a large spike in deaths – particularly infant deaths – in the 14 weeks following the Fukushima meltdown.

“And the highest ones,” Mangano said, “were in Boise, Idaho.”

According to that report, Boise saw its mortality rate for those younger than 45 jump 20 percent over that span.

We couldn’t reach the Ada County coroner for comment so we headed 20 miles down the road to meet his Canyon County colleague.

“We haven’t noticed anything different here,” Canyon County Coroner Vicki DeGeus-Morris said.

She said: If anything, rates in her county might’ve fallen: “I’m certainly not going to lose sleep over it.”

But Mangano believes she should. Actually, that we all should.

He called touting levels of radioactive chemicals as too low to inflict harm and even criticizing studies like his own “really irresponsible.”

All these things will continue as long as coercion remains a central element of our mentality.

And global chemtrails also have an effect on climate; and HAARP also. And war. But our Sun surely has much more impact than humans.
