Edit how? Get rid of the comment? I was just surprised because I was trying to find the revision of history OP I made a couple of years ago and thought I would share something that surprised me to see. Yes, I see that it is an older post and I didn't do the above in order to provoke old drama. Anyhow, the site exists and everyone deserves to know that it is there -- I certainly didn't know it was there. I didn't name any names either.

Ancient history, as things go now, I guess. I thought it might not be best to link to a blogpost titled "RI Cesspool" that defames Jeff and members by suggesting it's all a suspiciously motivated ARG designed to trap the unwary, but JMO.
I don't give a f*ck about it, but it could be misleading to some without the whole history. Surely not helpful to a new RI, unless I'm way off what that even means.

Personally, I'm against deleting it ... There was a similar link/post some time back that got deleted but which contained IMHO some insightful info which could serve as a warning to others about the kind of internet shenanigans that go on (likely everywhere). And when said thread got deleted it accidentally led me (from my internet searches for it) to another quality blog which was doing an extended revisit of the Theresa Duncan saga and its connections to this forum.

To delete a simple link like 82 posted is to treat it like a link to a st@rmfrak site or such.

I think part of any TOWARDS A NEW RI project has to encompass dealing with the internet and this forum's shadow and the kinds of cyber-gaslighting that can occur - or at least people's perceptions of such.

The major reason that other link was deleted Eflis, was because that particular RI shadow published some personal information about members here that posed a danger to them, it was best not to proliferate it.

Fair enough ... there have certainly been a number of RI haters out there who've spit vitriol and caused this community way too much pain and suffering.

This was back in November 2012 I think and I suspected it was just another thread which was probably linking to the sockpuppet troll cave of Socrates / Seth Allen etal accusing Jeff Wells and RI as being disinfo agents. There were indicators in the deleted thread indicating it centered upon the Theremy debacle. And there was a post by Wombaticus that I felt was worth exploring but which never was because the thread was deleted.

As I mentioned, the upside was my searching for the site led me to the X-Spot blog that was then doing a Theremy-retrospective. That Xdell blog had been linked to at RI before and is unrelated to such slagging of RI.

Threads at RI mentioning the Xdell blog:

I love the fact our simple, authoritarian stance of "What in the Sweet Fuck is Even Going On?" is actually grounds for charges of "disinformation agents."

Leveled by what can only be characterized as Narrative Fundamentalists.

Also, what are we leading people astray from? Posting the right memes on Facebook?

Anyways.

Our cult-like dogma of agnostic vertigo needs to change, guys.

Only one person in the thread mentioned it, but the upvote/downvote mechanism is pretty sweet. You can see it in all its glory at Reddit's image-hosting cousin, http://www.imgur.com .
The way all of the comments are nested in a tree keeps all of the responses to the OP both compact as well as sorted by tangent. Instead of verbally assembling schoolyard cliques one resentful comment at a time, all of the lurkers and insiders get to vote instantly. This assures that the irrelevant tangents float to the bottom of the page, while the best follow up rises to the top, still neatly sub-divided.

The biggest hurdle would be negotiating a space based on text rather than comments on a main image. It is the entire feature set of imgur that is up-to-date and attractive, however, so check it out.

For them, the main division is between the "Front Page," and "User Sub." In translation to an RI context, the front page would feature active threads, while user submitted would become the total pool of sub-fora, analogous to Reddit/Imgur's so-called /r/ sub-reddits.

Instead of inflating your post-count with incessant bickering, try spending some free time at http://www.codecademy.com . I learned some basic HTML, CSS, and JavaScript there. It was lots more fun than wading through one long, linear thread of primitive flaming. With some more Ruby, Java, SQL, and Python, we could all contribute to a new RI.

The same logic applies to IRL organizing as well. In the years since 2007, the entire developed world has leaped into an age where proliferating phone apps can be used to bridge the gap between digital isolation and re-socialization. That's going to be a necessary part of organizing for the foreseeable future.

Given the history, I don't want to further pursue the conversations here. As indicated before, if anyone has some reasonable proposals for promoting more of a shared understanding across the board about 'right" versus "wrong" ways to disagree, then let's start a thread dedicated to that topic. You never know- I might just appreciate your (positive) contributions there and even have something meaningful to add to the mix.

What a coincidence, AD! Here's a thread exploring exactly what you're asking for. No need to start a new thread! So fire away since it's hot on your mind.

Found a post with 5 more sites that will train you to code directly through your computer: http://imgur.com/gallery/BL6Vs
Finally finished my friend's webpage. I'll post a link here when it's fully uploaded.

Here it is: A page where you can order/print keys to all of the ad containers in your city in order to supplant the ads with original artwork. The maps, keys, and navbar thumbnails will all be updated as the project advances. I learned today that tons of ad casings can be opened with generic drill bits that will soon be linked to through this site.

Just one small example of what can be done with 4-6 months of hobby-level programmer training.
