Interesting theory, Grizzly, Re: preferred MVP choice (conscious or otherwise) influencing the play-calling during those crucial last moments of the game. May well have been a factor.
Lynch may have been 1 for 5 for the year, but the circumstances, schemes, and opponent were all different than those prior 5 instances. This was the final game of the year. ~30 seconds left. Plenty of motivation on both sides. History be damned.
Plus, I believe the Hawks had at least 1 timeout (or was it 2? Don't recall offhand) that could have been burned if Lynch wasn't successful on the first attempt to get in.
There's plenty of other plays they could have called in that situation: a fake draw for the QB to run it in for the score.... OR, a different type of pass play, keeping Lynch in the backfield as a decoy/potential option threat (on the fateful play in question, I believe Lynch was cleared from the backfield and lined up as a receiver, which in turn signaled to the cornerbacks to focus purely on the pass).
All hindsight.
In the end, our fellow 'truth seeker' Pete Carroll didn't win. Kinda lame. But it was just a game, after all. A diversion.
