Dreams End, you amaze me with your level of sanity

Postby starroute » Thu Oct 13, 2005 11:22 pm

And I'm equally amazed by the posters who want to turn your suggestions on how to tell good wine from bad into a set of prescriptive rules and then rebel against it.

I have little to add to what you say, but I'd like to expand a little on one particular point. That is the use of coded language to refer to various right-wing boogeymen. (Most often Jews, occasionally homosexuals or intellectuals.) Quite simply, when racism is considered unacceptable, racists will code their statements so that only other racists will recognize them. And being able to uncode those statements can help those of us who wonder about the truth of what we encounter on the Net to figure out the underlying agendas of what we are reading.

For example, "liberal media" often means "Jews." So does "Hollywood." So does "bankers." So does "New Yorkers." And so does, yes, "Neocons." (See, for instance, the writings of Paul Craig Roberts.)

Pointing this out isn't an attempt to tell anybody how to think. It's simply a tool for navigating through what can be extremely murky waters.

"You see this site as a source of material first and foremost. (Nothing wrong with that, but correct me if I am wrong.)"

Yeah, well....you're wrong.

I view this site and board mostly as a place to converse with other verbal, intelligent people on topics that are too weird to bring up on other forums. I rarely if ever have to work to bring everyone else up to speed so that they have a grasp of what I'm talking about. As a general guideline, you can't just barge in and give cram courses on subjects on the Internet- especially about offbeat topics and fringe viewpoints- without appearing to be an obsessive trying to monopolize the conversation- unless it's your personal blog, that is. And even if all the other posters are up for you schooling them, at the end of it, all they know is what you've told them.

In terms of the subjects raised around here, not much takes me by surprise. But I do like to learn new things, and because there's a wide pre-existing knowledge base among most of the other posters, sometimes I encounter new data.

I find this place therapeutic, because there are other places where many of these topics can't be discussed without inviting ridicule from people who are ignorant and close-minded.

"I sometimes think Americans are so brainwashed they would rather give up their country than be labelled “anti-Semitic”."

Nah. The population of Americans that might fall under the category of "brainwashed" would rather give up their country than stand up for the principle that torture is unacceptable, even when the torturers are wearing American uniforms. Etc.

Edited by: robertdreed at: 10/13/05 10:16 pm

Here's a link to an excellent story that has the sorts of characteristics I'd look for when doing research. It's by some guy named Robert Reed. Personally, I never heard of him, but it's a good article.

www.consortiumnews.com/1999/111299a.html

Heh.

Imagine that, Mr. Brady was a poofter!

The $64K question though is, did Mrs. Brady know? Were she and the housekeeper a couple?

No. Our guy is Robber Treed. Glad so much humor is finally being injected here. We could use a few laffs and fewer jabs.

Robert D. Reed

Postby robertdreed » Fri Oct 14, 2005 3:47 am

Needless to say, any relationship I have with these people is purely coincidental. Although come to think of it, maybe I should lean on them some... www.rdrpublishers.com/

That would be Yahoo's #1 on the Search Engine Hit Parade.

Idly wondering how long they've been in business...aah, over 30 years. That's reassuring.

Edited by: robertdreed at: 10/14/05 1:50 am

Postby robertdreed » Fri Oct 14, 2005 1:16 pm

Oh yeah, I've been known to complain about other posters on the board. Mostly in a general sense...directed not so much at individuals as at attitudes, states of mind. I notice others giving in to feelings of negativity, paranoia, or powerlessness in ways that seem familiar with my own past struggles against those adversaries. I'd just as soon let others figure out if they resemble my remarks.

I will say that I don't recall ever reading anything by you that had that "sky-is-falling" attitude. Your bones of contention seem to be fairly specific. I'm somewhat handicapped in getting the gist of what you're talking about, because I'm on the other side of the pond, so to speak, and have huge gaps in my knowledge of the UK. I think I know more about the politics of post-1945 Italy than the post-1945 UK.

As I mentioned previously, there are a lot of levels to this board. I haven't delved into your case, antiaristo. Or into these government documents you keep referring to. I promise to check it out soon.
