Announcing "The Fire Pit"

Postby Rigorous Intuition » Tue Oct 18, 2005 8:19 pm

I've created a new forum, "The Fire Pit," for flamebait, flame wars, borderline hate-mongering, ignorance-peddling - basically whatever I can't stand to look at but don't have sufficient cause to lock or delete. You'll be able to continue your exchanges, or create new ones.

I'm going to be a bit ruthless about moving threads, because I want the general discussion forum to generate more light than heat. If you want heat, you'll have a new home.

As someone who is prone to the odd bout of expletives myself, you might find this a strange request Jeff;

But can we put some kind of limits on the amount of profanity used in the main forum.

We need more people around here not less.

I hate rules as much as the next man, and hope that common sense will previal, but as far as Im concerned at least, I think it would be beneficial.

Edited by: slimmouse at: 10/18/05 6:33 pm

fire pit what a great idea

Postby a non » Tue Oct 18, 2005 8:34 pm

all right you bastards! grrr
what a great idea , moving all that ( or much of it, anyway ) posing, baiting, discommunication, 'disinfo labeling/libeling, stuff to its own fun little island. No censoring, just go along over there ... I guess it could be labeled as a take off on the free speech zones of our most fabulous nation, but there's a different context.
Also, what's wrong with blowing off a bit of steam . . . get something outta your system.

Great idea. Thanks. I know you don't have much time to moderate the board, but this should help.
Qutb means "axis," "pole," "the center," which contains the periphery or is present in it. so, you guys may yet get to meet my evil twin, Ruth Ruthless, eh? if she ever shows up, you'll know her by the red stilettoes that match the dress, and the fact you never saw a brick house chew gum before.

be careful with Ruthie. she knows people who know people who will break your legs for a hundred bucks.

and she recently won the "missguided 2005" pageant.

you've been warned.

A good call, Jeff

I was about to sign off from this board -- I have better uses of my time and energy than watching otherwise clever folks argue about Jews till the cows come home.

Good idea, now all we have to do is come up with some sort of script that automatically sorts disinformation into the pit. Sort of like a spam filter...

Uh oh, slippery slope warning

First it's 'mustn't call anyone a disinfo agent.'

Then it's we can't say damn.

I think profanity is like hot sauce. A little spices up the recipe, too much drowns the food.

I would prefer to let the posters themselves decide when someone has become offensive due to cussing and police it themselves. Otherwise first it's you can't say fuck, then asshole, then ass, then the PC police came in 'cuz you said bitch or fat, and then you might as well just shut the board down.

I hope you fucking assholes catch my drift.

fire pit

Postby Pants Elk » Wed Oct 19, 2005 1:08 am

I'd go over there, but I'm too scared. Even thinking about it gives me the horse staggers.

I just went over...

...and tried to insult as many ethnic groups, animal species and even trees as I could during the commercial while watching "The Office." It was fun, gave me a rush like bungee jumping! Not that I've ever bungee jumped but I bet it has a really high pucker factor.

Who wins?

Postby GDN01 » Wed Oct 19, 2005 3:45 am

How about keeping a running tally of who has contributed the most posts in the "Fire Pit"? It would sure be interesting to see who spends the most time participating in that kind of exchange.

Wanna place bets on who would have the most posts?

Clarification

Postby antiaristo » Wed Oct 19, 2005 5:39 am

I just want to say that I hope the Fire Pit is not just a way to avoid answering questions.
I don't see an awful lot of replies coming in from people who have been called out.
