Re: Very disappointed that Floyd is gone - He was a very war

At first he seemed nice, but became more and more hostile and unbalanced. His creepy fascination with the women here who are RA survivors was, well, creepy. I join the chorus of those who are glad he's gone.

Quote:
No personal attacks, no racist posts, no discussion of Holocaust "hoaxes," and no cries of "disinfo agent."

Jeff, thank you for your very stimulating blog and for this forum, which is a very rich source of information for me, not to mention giving me the chance to exchange views with diverse individuals who nevertheless have a somewhat similar focus for their concern and interest.

Re: your rules. There are four of them. Regardless of whether one agrees with them or not, one of them is not like the others. "No personal attacks", "no racist posts" and "no cries of disinfo agent" focus on the form of one's posts, rather than the content.

But "no discussion of Holocaust "hoaxes" forbids the very "discussion" of an entire topic.

Is there any particular reason why this is the only topic that is forbidden?

In a blog that easily accommodates arguments that Bush Sr. is a pedophile, that the moon landing was a hoax, that Cheney is a pedophile and torturer, that certain powerful elements in the US government may have successfully invoked demons, that ritual cannibalism is practised by some survivors of ritual abuse, and that discusses "ritualized homosexual rape and systemic paedophilia in the highest ranks of the US military and government", may I ask what it is about this particular historic event that makes it off limits?

The Holocaust is not something that particularly preoccupies me, so I personally have no problem complying with this rule. But just like I became troubled by Floyd's insistence that I must BELIEVE that Jesus died on the cross for our sins and was resurrected on the third day, etc., or with any argument that insists that I must have FAITH and am not permitted to question facts, I feel uneasy with your Holocaust rule.

Like so many have said, it's your blog, and your forum. But surely we are discerning and intelligent enough to distinguish between racism and the irrational hatred of an entire ethnic group on the one hand, and logic and fact-based arguments about historical events, on the other hand.

Seriously, it's not a big deal, I'd just appreciate an explanation for why this particular topic is so often singled out to be an article of faith rather than an historical topic like any other (the Vietnam War, the Rape of Nanking, the Massacre of the Armenians, the French Revolution, etc.), even in RI.

Maybe it's clearer in the new Guidelines for Posting I've tacked at the top of the forum: "This is an anti-fascist board. Propagation of fascist, neo-Nazi and "white pride" causes, including sympathetically linking to sites which advocate such, will not be permitted. This includes revisionist histories of the Holocaust."

It's not simply a topic, it's a lure cast by Nazi apologists for the newly open minded, which exploits the fresh sense of distrust of history by suggesting this, too, must be a lie.

I want it to be off the table here not because I consider the issue settled, though I do, but because I don't want the forum to become a place where neo-Nazis can trawl for converts.

I live in an area that could be described as a suburban "edge city", with a predominately white population. I went out to the mailbox the other week, after some workers contracted by the municipality had been blocking my driveway all day, shredding dead tree limbs on my street. On the ground next to my mailbox, I found a rolled up stack of propaganda from the Minneapolis, Minnesota based "National Socialist Movement". There were multiple copies of each page, so it looks as though someone was distributing this crap. They are actively encouraging like-minded people to seek political office.

It's out there, and not just on the Internet.
