I'm going to watch the movie "Pi" in the next day or two and I though I'd solicit any parapolitical comments BEFORE I watch the movie this time. Anyone seen it?

I saw it when it was first released, and unfortunately I don't remember it well enough to comment meaningfully. Other than to say that over the past six months or so I've been feeling a need to see it again. I hope someone who remembers it better can remind me why that is.

Superb film with a superb soundtrack. No point getting into details, the parapolitical stuff is a minor issue in the film.

Dig this thread up after you've seen it and let's talk about it.

____________________
Some are born to sweet delight, some are born to endless night.

Speaking of digging up threads, I need to go dig up the "V for Vendetta" one. I just saw it for the first time and was highly disturbed.

I never saw pi, can't help you there.

I'd suggest, a stiff drink before after or during PI . I don't want to spoil the plot, but as others say do get back afterward.

Another movie somewhat similar, in the mind altering thinking fella's union, is the (1990) movie Mindwalk.

www.imdb.com/title/tt0100151/

I have a vague discription of a movie, anyone think this sounds familiar? I saw a trailer for it sometime in mid-to-late 90's:
It's a sci-fi/horror base, set in the late 90's/ever-present-now, theme being that people in their dreams/waking-visions are comming into contact with 'something' new, some group-mind that co-ops everyone into "it" - a few people are not "in" on the 'wavelength' and have not bought into the psyco-spiritual arival/event that most others are aware of and working for, some of the characters are somehow resisting. Maybe called something like "the message"?

I have no idea what it's called, just thinking maybe someone else knows from my sorry description...?

May be a couple of days....local preseason football game here...yeah, football. My concession to mass culture and a lifelong obsession by my wife.

I just had read the blurb and the protagonist has a group of "kabbalists" trying to get his secret, a mathematical formula. I just was curious if there was much parapolitics involved or just a straightforward thriller. Looking forward to watching it.

I thought it was that they had the guns, but we've got the numbers?

I remember jotting down notes while watching it at the time, but none of the connections seemed to speak further when I looked at them again.

I did get out of the theatre and have a really funny synchronicity in the supermarket right afterward that had me laughing so loudly that people were looking at me funny.

About Pi, great soundtrack by Massive Attack, great acting by Sean Gullette.

Quote:
The plot is interesting but the number Cohen seeks (which is not Pi - Pi is just used because it is a universal invariant like that which Cohen wants) isn't the centre of the movie. It's about obsession and how, as Max's friend points out, it can drive you to see things everywhere. Sure there are technical inaccuracies in it, but it's played with an assured sense of conviction, ably acted by unknown Gullette.

"Paranoia is the belief in a hidden order behind the visible."
- Anonymous.

Quote:
Hundreds of clubs have been formed to celebrate and calculate the ratio, many of which require a good deal of sequence memorization in order to join.

Yeah, shows you how much of a nerd I am. I thik Massive Attack might have had one track in the film; I forget as someone stole my pi soundtrack a while back and I haven't replaced it, but most of the songs on pi as well as Requim for a Dream(what a brutal film that was..) were all Clint Mansell.

Massive Attack's in my top 5 favorite bands of all time.
