Well, 2021 is off to a good start. Fascists storming the Capitol building and the president cheering them on.

What's the penalty for attempted coup in the US anyway?

.

Govt imposed lockdowns and excessive mandates for almost a year, but citizens expressing pent-up frustration (however ill-advised or misdirected) are labeled "fascists".

The irony is deep. But you're in good company: many others -- those conditioned with relative ease, apparently -- are singing from the same songbook.

Careful how far you follow that pied piper..

OK, not fascists, just stupid fucking goons obsessed with flags, guns, enemies, and violent symbols. And an authoritarian cult of personality.

Nahhhhh, fascists.

Those descriptors may apply to them. But my point is: our collective anger should be directed elsewhere given what we've been enduring for the past ~year. It's a testament to how well those with the levers play their game, that so many clamor for repressive measures (to keep us safe, right? Because historically, that's what those in power do: keep the people safe, yea?), while calling out the plebes as fools/fascists.

MISDIRECTIONS abound as we play along.

Really? You're making excuses for a far-right mob storming the seat of government in an attempt to stop the peaceful transition of power?

This has nothing to do with the pandemic and everything to do with Trump and his fascist cult. It didn't just happen overnight. It's been in the works for decades, and the last four years accelerated it to the point of what's happening now.

If it was the lockdowns then you would expect to see a cross-section of Americans out there, not just the hardcore Trump supporters screaming about a communist takeover and stolen elections.

My first impression of this is that it is just more theater meant to enrage and divide people and as well as to pretend that both sides are not fundamentally controlled by the same oligopolies.

I may be wrong, but I find it hard to imagine that these people could not have been stopped unless someone in charge wanted this made-for-TV display.

Furthermore, I predict that this totally staged and Trumped up cuckcoup will be used not only to disgrace Trump so that Republican politicians are given the cover to withdraw their questioning of Biden's ratification, but also to justify cracking down on any legitimate future protests of our wholly bought and paid-for (supposed) political representatives.

Can anyone supply any wide angle photos of the supposed "thousands" of Trump supporters who "stormed" the Capitol (but who were actually politely invited in)?

Hmmmm. Why does this whole event have a Saddam statue vibe about it?

The pied piper isn't a cautionary tale. The piper gets rid of the rats. The townspeople are unappreciative, as the townspeople always are. The piper plays for the children, leading them to the sea. It's symbolism. The children are the spirit of the townspeople. Drowning in the sea represents the spirit coming alive, the sea is freedom.

The townspeople can be counted on to not pay. The piper can be counted on to raise spirits. The reactionary can be counted on to fear the piper's tune, the call of the future. See it as a corruptor of the young, brand it as an usurper of tradition and all sanctities.

Interesting take. Children being led to a mass drowning equated with 'freedom' and 'spirit'. You're adept in the arts, dada.

My usage of pied piper is to more broadly suggest being led over a cliff.

But I've nothing further to add here. Slice and dice as you wish.

I would call the violence going on in our capitol pre-adolescent democracy. :?:

Yes, that was clear, hence my reply.

There's no magical art to it, it's just basic stuff. But please, don't allow me to dispel your notions that I'm some kind of spooky wizard. Ooga booga.

The happening at the Capitol does have the effect of getting the last of the Republicans in line, whether or not that was the intent. We could speculate that whatever power-struggle has been going on between factions in the Pentagon is clearly over. This line of thinking did cross my mind. Staging a stunt nowadays is fairly easy, isn't it. Rope in some dopes with a facebook event invite.

Call it Surkov's rules of engagement. But then again, do the dopes even need to be roped in. Could be a genuine display of super-fandom, like the flags-on-pickup trucks show the weekend before the election. Or Donald suppressing the Republican vote by telling his base that the elctions are all a sham, before the elections. Might as well tell them not to go vote.

So do the spin-meisters really need to resort to post-modern tactics in this case? I'd say probably not. It could be we've simply reached a whole new level of stupid. Stupid is evolving at an exponential rate, you know. The stupid singularity is just around the corner.

As with practically every news item of note over the past ~year, very little is to be taken at face value here. Why were the barricades surrounding the U.S. Capitol opened by officers, for example?

"These officers were part of the coup", some will say, without a hint of irony.

Interpret these events as you may.

As I already typed above: misdirections abound.

So you're saying that you see a coup taking place against Donald? I don't think that is a correct assessment of the situation, but maybe you do.

And you're seeing it plainly, but abounding misdirection is obscuring everyone else's view. Is this your argument?
