New Dave McGowan Piece!!

Postby The Omega Man » Fri Jul 28, 2006 6:53 pm

Very astute piece with some good detective work which you can find here New Dave McGowan article After a lengthy hiatus he returns with a vengeance delving into:

1) A photo circulating with Anton LaVey and John Kerry that was faked.

2) Cheney and Scalia's hunting trip in which Scalia's daughter was inexplicably present.

3) A newly discovered movie called "The Peeping Tom" about a programmed, sadistic serial killer who makes snuff films of his victims. It's available on DVD and the extras reveal some background on the ritually abused MK programmer named Leo Marks whom the lead character was based upon.

4) BTK may have been a patsy to cover a covert op assasination of military intelligence operative Joseph Otero.

5) A buried story on Nazi expatriate and Colonia Dignidad founder Paul Schaefer. It appears that he was convicted of the sexual child abuse of over 2 dozen children in Chile and was buddies with scumbag and Nazi enthusiast Augusto Pinochet. Who in turn served the interests of Washington D.C. and the spook corps.

Good, compelling stuff!

Edited by: The Omega Man at: 7/28/06 5:08 pm

Peeping Tom- Not really a discovery for us in the UK as it's considered to be one of the masterpieces of the 1960's and has regular appearances at reps, often twinned with Blue Velvet . He married Thelma Schoonmaker who is Scorsese's long time collaborator/editor and worked as his advisor for a number of years. It was Powell's suggestion to film Raging Bull in Black and white. For a truly spellbinding movie then his 'The Red Shoes' is a must see along with Colonel Blimp and the truly fantastic 'A Matter of life and Death'
I really can't recommend him enough.
www.screenonline.org.uk/f...index.html

www.powell-pressburger.or...Frank2.jpg

Michael Powell

Postby streeb » Fri Jul 28, 2006 8:23 pm

I want to second friend catcher's comments about Peeping Tom (although the info in the McGowan piece is extraordinary!) and also point out that although it hurt Powell's career initially, he wasn't exactly 'disgraced'. He was very highly celebrated in the 80s with the re-release of Colonel Blimp. I'd also like to add my own favourite to FC's suggestions: Black Narcissus. An AMAZING film.

Pianka

Postby Avalon » Fri Jul 28, 2006 9:31 pm

McGowan mentions Pianka. Anyone interested in looking into Pianka further should read our RI thread "More on Texas genocide advocate" from April. I found a lot of material discussing Pianka that gives more context to him and his comments. It's not as clear-cut as it might look.

p216.ezboard.com/frigorou...=129.topic

As long as he goes first. From the man himself:

Quote:
I do not bear any ill will toward humanity. However, I am convinced that the world WOULD clearly be much better off without so many of us. Simply stopping the destruction of rainforests would help mediate some current planetary ills, including the release of previously unknown pathogens. The ancient Chinese curse "may you live in interesting times" comes to mind -- we are living in one of the most interesting times humans have ever experienced. For example, consider the manifold effects of global warming. We need to make a transition to a sustainable world. If we don't, nature is going to do it for us in ways of her own choosing. By definition, these ways will not be ours and they won't be much fun. Think about that.

If you don't believe me, read Richard Heinberg's "The Party's Over," Sean Nee's one page commentary "The Great Chain of Being" in Nature (2005, vol.435 age 429), and Jared Diamond's "Guns, Germs, and Steel."

link

Who's that Heinberg fellow, anyway?
