^ Fine work

Hope the Wombat doesn't mind but ...

Wombaticus Rex
January 31, 2023

New track went up today on Big Orange:
soundcloud.com/loupobeats/last-call-ft-wombaticus-rex

I wrote this and cut the vocals almost ten years ago.

Late last year, when I started recording & releasing again, I reconnected with Loupo -- a producer of highest order, a sound design genius whose musicality is effortless, pure -- and we found out we'd just completed the same character arc. We both got overwhelmed and burned out, taking a huge hiatus from the artform that we used to love so much. And, right about on cue, we both hauled ourselves back to that big ol' infinite canvas at just about the same time. His fresh take on this hugely elevated the song.

So the track is new, and old, and the beginning of a whole lot more. You can hear a lot of Breakup Music era Hump Jones in it, for sure, and I surely wouldn't have written this in 2023. I still fuckin' love it, though.

Things are still moving at a slow trickle for now, but I'm going to have another feature in late February when D.FRENCH, an impeccable rap stylist from Boston by way of St. Albans, Vermont, releases his next project "West End North Side" on Feb. 23rd. I'll link you when it drops.

I feel stupidly blessed to be working with such great artists and even more so to still have listeners after all these years.

Thank you.

One thing I know,
I can be broken
I can survive being broken,
I is not me,
Me is not I,
Our souls are irreducibly unique
And always the same
Despite their interchangeability
The horror of the other
is really the horror of self
When the beast came for me
Day after month after year
My sister, my brother
My father, my friend
My mother, my lover
My stranger, my friend
Saved me, lost me
Made me,
The end.
And while we spoke of many things, fools and kings
This he said to me
"The greatest thing
You'll ever learn
Is just to love
And be loved
In return"

My first real introduction to Whitman, and splendid it is. Many thanks! :hug1:
