It's difficult to understand where you're coming from since Blacks don't have their own Israel

I read here about how Ethiopian Jews were being treated in Israel. Never heard about the birth control - that's an interesting twist.

It's a good thing my folks are Baptists and couldn't be bothered with Israel. My family's universally morally opposed to Gazan apartheid.

lets try and have a discussion about Israel without it descending into rubbish

if anyone has a genuine point to make all they have to do is back it up with some sort of evidence or link,

if they cant do that then its just throwing out opinions which is not as highly valued,

if you throw out contentious statements, cant back them up, engage with people in hostile ways ...

these issues may be deeply personal for people, but that doesnt stop a discussion taking place based on evidence,

I think the ability to feel "pride" or "shame" for things one hasn't even done is a thinly-disguised symptom of the kind of problem we've been talking about here, evidence of the atavistic tribalism that can and often does lead to unlimited cruelty and injustice, and the regular descent into bloodthirsty savagery that has blighted much too much of humanity's history.

Luckily we have another human capacity: to feel empathy with the suffering of others, and to share in their joy. Empathy is a blessing, a divine blessing, in fact, since it embodies the Golden Rule that is the key to our salvation: "Love thy neighbour as thyself". But when even this blessing is captured through a narrow tribal definition of "neighbour" and pressed into serving a supremacist tribal agenda, then it becomes a curse -- not only on those who exploit it, but on all of us.

The myths that the Nazi slaughter affected only or mostly Jews and that this kind of mass murder was a uniquely reprehensible event in all of history- these are two that stand out. They are of course used to leverage support for Israeli atrocities today.

It certainly has a wiff of trauma based mind control doesn't it. (Then again so does induction into the US military, and probably any fighting force anywhere.)

Its also got a sense of an initiation about it, (which is also something very close to trauma based mind control.)

I guess it also means that rational argument won't work with those people, cos something has been imprinted on them at an emotional level. It'll take something as emotionally jarring to get through to them.
