Thanks, Harvey. I think the vid you posted reflects ninakat’s thoughts in another thread in which he wrote, “…I’m finding that I’m less and less inspired and impressed by derivative works of art and music, and I long for genuine, authentic expressions.…”

Here’s another expression of the same, I think.

Omara "Bombino" Moctar

Absolutely infectious, this one.... I could listen to it all night.... what a feel, and so fucking real:

I find Bombino's music so refreshing. It's trance-inducing for me. He's channeling the energy missing in western music now -- it reaches a spiritual level, and there's the intent that is so heart-penetrating. I can't put the intent into words, but it feels universal -- everyone is going to feel something deeply if they open up and really fall into this music. I don't know... but I haven't felt this energy in decades... 60s people like Richie Havens come to mind. An intensity of intent. Thanks for listening to me ramble.... I don't do it like The Consul, who I envy..... ok, goodnight all.

Persian Santoor and Tonbak
  • EXCERPT YOUTUBE NOTES. This is an improvisational rhythmic composition in Persian classical music played on santoor by Pooyan Nassehpoor and accompanied on tonbak by Peyman Nasehpour.

The mode is in Dastgah Nava (very old modal system of Persian music). This video clip is a part of the concert of Nassehpoor Ensemble in February 2002 in Iranian Artist Forum (Khaneh ye Honarmandan).

Similar hammaered-dulcimer instruments: yang chin (China), Santoor (India, Iraq, Egypt), Hackbrett (Germany), Santoori (Greece), Cimbalom (Hungaria) and so on...

  • < Two Fifty Three Kelvin | Bart van der Gaag
    • The entrancing solo instrument you hear is called the duduk, a traditional woodwind instrument of Armenian origins that is popular in the Caucasus, the Middle East and Central Asia.

Fidel Castro's brother spies a rich lady who's crying
Over luxury's disappointment
So he walks over and he's trying
To sympathize with her but he thinks that he should warn her
That the Third World is just around the corner
