Who was that joker with the fucking lines on Mars? There was also some clown trying to get us to bite on some kind of thin threads falling from the sky, I think in Texas. It would be funny if at least it wasn't.
Er... There were some kind of anomolous thin white threads falling from the sky in Austin Tx a few years back. Super sticky stuff, too. In some parts of Austin it covered everything , for several months, in a layer of nearly unwashable gunk. The papes reported that the build up was due to an unusually high amount of tree pollen, but I wasn't buying it. No clue what it could have been, but nearly everyone I talked to about it agreed that it was strange and unprecedented. So, not sure what sort of theories the poster you are refering to was trying to pitch, but it may not have been entirely meritless. It's not the sort of thing I'd normally bring up here. Or anywhere, for that matter.
Well then it did happen. I was "super into" "chemtrails" back then. I say this because, I haven't seen activity like that since and just chalked it up to me being too curious. I wasn't the only one who noted the difference. But okay, the white threads stands as a possibly true phenomenon.

Star Jelly and Angel Hair mythology definitely pre-date chemtrail theories, and both are associated with UFO phenomena. Both wikipedia entries give a nice attempt for skepticism but most examples lead to more questions than answers.
There was s good chapter on angel hair in one of my mother's paranormal research books dating from the 60's or early 70's, I wish that information was available on the internet.

Come on people, you say these white sticky threads were falling through the air, landing everywhere and covering everything, right in your own town. So did you keep samples? Did anyone? Have there been chemical analyses? What's the point in speculating when you can find out exactly what it is?
In the new RI, I'll continue mainly to look benevolently on the Sasquatch and frog-rain stuff, from afar.

Does anyone know ... if/when mods move a thread from one forum to another ... what might be the unintended consequences?
I recall a big thread I was trying to find I couldn't as it had been merged (different than moving to different forum) with another - I think this was a thread consolidation requested by Jack that condensed the New Manhattan Project thread into the To The Hell That Is Iraq thread or similar.
I like the idea of forcing posts into certain sub-forums because otherwise only an even smaller handful of posters ever post to those sub-forums and everything ends up in GD.
I realize some might not like such a forced categorization of things, especially given the cross-categorization efforts of RI's founder's wonderful blog posts which brought most of us here - wanting to be able to discuss the paranormal and the parapolitical.

Arg, you crazy millenarians, Jeff's available to you any time, if you're willing to hang out with him on FB. His obsessions remain the same, though the Ford family has really grown... and grown... into predominance.
