The recent unveiling of the 9-foot, one-ton Satanic statue with admiring children--one of which is stabbed in the back-- in Detroit, sort of reinforced my belief, in a symbolic sense, that this is actually happening, not to mention the
sympathy-for-the devil propaganda that seems to permeate pop culture including the new FOX show: "Lucifer". I have no doubt this show will be brilliant.
Actually I saw the trailer & it looks like it sucks pretty bad. The graphic novel it is based on is good though.
The Huxley quote is interesting. I had not seen it before. He does seem to be revealing something about the methods of social engineering, taking a profound truth and showing how it can be abused, as usual, by being used to empower the ego, the traumatized social alter.
I also think there is a deeper meaning to "freedom is slavery" than the one you are pointing out, D & C: that the social values being sold to us ~ such as the illusory idea of "freedom of choice" or "the pursuit of happiness" ~ are the "Luciferian" bait of ruling in hell, i.e., of being enslaved to our constructed identities, those shaped by trauma. The part of ourselves that will do anything not to re-experience that powerlessness, unconsciously align with the power of our abusers.
That's my take on it anyway, and the only "something that ain't right" that really counts, to me, is this one. The world has always belonged to satan....

A small aside: Pretty sure the original ending to Lars Von Trier's Antichrist was supposed to be that Satan created Earth, not God, and then someone spoiled the ending and he rewrote it.
Haven't actually seen it though, but I've read the content advisory on imdb, which was more than enough.

No offensive, but what the fuck-ever. The only Mephistopheles is the archetype
in my head. The rest of what you wrote rings true, in other words, resonates (for me). But to assign that kind energy to an outside entity, is just, I suspect, my inability to take responsibility for my own failings. My own personal demon, or Egregore. A reality construct of my own. Wilson says, "egregores seem to achieve sentience over time, and these may become independent of their creators" but I have yet to come to know that. Honesty, the only go
od I have ever know has been a meat puppet just like me, and the only evil I have ever known has been the same.

That was why I used the small "s."

Okay, I'll bite. Here's what's not right: media consumer patterns are a goldfish bowl of a constant now.
I've checked out an easy two dozen shows that came highly recommended in the past few, and it's mostly taught me how capable we are of lowering expectations.
One thing I will give the Jung/Vallee Associative Universe over Conspiracy Theory Causality Chains is the focus on larger patterns, because effects are so unpredictable. The massive tome Thy Will Be Done is a great example of a competently organized body of work, meticulously argued, that still doesn't manage to prove its own case. A lot of work in our genre is like that, though.
Anyways, if we can put together a decent spec script for a horror film based on these general feelings of unease you all have -- I'm guessing a lot of y'all live in cities but yet anyone here I actually know proves me wrong -- I'm down to organize it. And sell it with no attributions or payments to any of you. Let me know.

Whatever it is that isn't right this is a symptom of it. I read this whole article and watched the video. It starts like any other similar scenario. As the video continues on it becomes more intense. By the time it ended I had a twinge of mild nausea at what can happen to a man standing outside his own apartment committing the crime of having a five month old puppy in the yard without a leash.

That's my belief now. Not because of religion or my religious upbringing--this puts me at odds with my Christian family and most of the Christians I know because they can't conceive of a world run by Satan even though it's pretty much stated in the Bible...
"In the world but not of it" --but because of what I see now that I've opened my eyes. There is no question in my mind that the evil in this world trickles down from the top, that our world is run by extraordinarily evil people.

“The police are alleging that my client answered the door and dragged them inside, to justify coming into the house .”
Well sure, isn't that what anyone would do when two angry cops come to your door?

Satan is an
internal mechanism, the guardian-accuser figure that gets "installed" in the psyche through abuse/trauma. There's no need to posit evil, IMO. It's delusion combined with primal rage and terror. Think of a severely damaged infant that grows into an adult without developing past that stage, and so gains the power to act on its urges.
It's explored at the
mimesis thread, as well as the actual psychological value & meaning of Christianity as a lens to understand human behavior.

One of the most nightmarish things about a dark age is the degradation it entails for life’s overall tone, not least in the dehumanization that occurs when a people’s intellectual, emotional, moral, spiritual, political, social, and cultural life in general is reduced to a ghastly level of brutishness and ignorance. As is now plainly evident all around us in the industrialized world of present-day info-technocracy, this coarsening of life can occur even in circumstances of relative material prosperity. It doesn’t always have to be a dark age like the one that gripped Europe in the aftermath of Rome’s fall, when starvation and plague were rampant and most people barely scraped by at a miserable subsistence level. A dark age can unfold and exist right in the middle of outward conditions that may appear enlightened to those who don’t look too closely or deeply.
Sometimes it’s oddly comforting to dwell on the words of people who have seen today’s dark age of dehumanization unfolding. When it feels like the world is full of robots instead of people, or when it begins to feel like we really are living on the planet of the apes (as Robert Anton Wilson liked to put it), it can be a powerfully affirming experience to be reminded that other people have observed the same thing

1. That Leonard Cohen 1992 album "The Future" might as well be called "2016", as a document.
and
2.

Possibly the error is mostly on our side of the screen and can't be represented by the use of logos (the instant recognition of which is a 'win' on the side of what they represent).
Even better represented by the questionable assumption that there such a thing as 'life on the internet'.
(I wanted to insert the well known cartoon of the man and child watching the sunrise on the television, almost iconic itself in its simplicity but, oddly, I couldn't find it)
