wiki wrote:The word itself, Old English bread, is common in various forms to many Germanic languages; such as Frisian brea, Dutch brood, German Brot, Swedish bröd, Norwegian and Danish brød; it has been claimed to be derived from the root of brew. However, it may be connected with the root of break, for its early uses are confined to broken pieces, or bits of bread, the Latin crustum, and it was not until the 12th century that it took the place—as the generic name for bread—of hlaf (hlaifs in Gothic: modern English loaf), which appears to be the oldest Teutonic name; Old High German hleib and modern German Laib, or Finnish leipä, Estonian leib, and Russian хлеб (khleb) are similar (all are derived from the Old German word for "loaf").

The history of bread is a long one, for bread is one of the oldest prepared foods, dating back to the Neolithic era. The first bread produced was probably cooked versions of a grain-paste, made from roasted and ground cereal grains and water, and may have been developed by accidental cooking or deliberate experimentation with water and grain flour. Descendants of this early bread are still commonly made from various grains in many parts of the world, including lavashs, taboons, sangaks, Mexican tortilla, Indian chapatis, rotis and naans, Scottish oatcake, North American johnnycake, Middle Eastern pita, and Ethiopian injera. Flat bread of these types also formed a staple in the diet of many early civilizations with the Sumerians eating a type of barley flat cake, and the 12th century BC Egyptians being able to purchase a flat bread called ta from stalls in the village streets.[1] The ritual bread in ancient Greek offerings to the chthonic gods, known as psadista was made of fine flour, oil and wine.[2]

The development of leavened bread can probably also be traced to prehistoric times. Yeast spores occur everywhere, including the surface of cereal grains, so any dough left to rest will become naturally leavened. Although leavening is likely of prehistoric origin, the earliest archaeological evidence is from ancient Egypt. Scanning electron microscopy has detected yeast cells in some ancient Egyptian loaves. However, ancient Egyptian bread was made from emmer wheat and has a dense crumb. In cases where yeast cells are not visible, it is difficult, by visual examination, to determine whether the bread was leavened. As a result, the extent to which bread was leavened in ancient Egypt remains uncertain.[3]

Care must be taken while toasting bread to avoid burning toast unless it is desired in that state. Burnt toast is possibly carcinogenic, due to elevated levels of benzopyrene.[2]

indeed. and although you already remember it never hurts to remind:

if you take a moment to breathe you'll realize that the karmic debt to be paid if you're wrong isn't worth the risk.

(fools rush in and all)

besides, i suppose it was sort of inevitable that this thread would need a circle of its very own.

There is obviously great resentment towards any victim who asserts his need to bystanders, it is against all convention. It is indeed a natural human reaction in that case to resent, it is a defense against identifying with vulnerability. The more extreme the vulnerability, the more extreme the resentment. It is one of the Achilles heel's of our species.

Thank you for showing me who you are, the last few posters in this thread. I shan't forget.

i think you may be misjudging the posters in this thread.

i only saw/see one post that i would categorize as overtly hostile wrt your direction. and i have little doubt, knowing the poster, that as soon as the sensibly buddhist portions of his structure assert themselves again, he will regret having done so. indeed, if he is half as smart as i can him credit for, he probably already regrets having done so.

there are only a few people who have posted in this thread. two of those posters, btw, have personally and privately advocated on your behalf to me earlier this week. It would be acceptable to say that without their calm and expert guidance it may've been an extremely long time before i could have gotten over my knee-jerk responses to any critique of my content and come to the conclusion that i was being unfair and/or unkind to you.

i do not believe that i have overlooked any other hostilities, as such i am suggesting that it is possible that you may've misread something if you came to this conclusion.

(if anyone is going to burn it down, he has decided it will be him)

OP ED likes his thread. it has taken OP ED a lot of effort to keep his thread entirely flame free for 71 pages and 17 months (going on eleven dog years) and he hopes that this information is all that is required by way of expressing how extremely unhappy he would be to find that someone had imported a fire there when he wasn't looking.

I have a feeling I have seriously missed out on something - been away from here for a while - since I no longer know what that is about, Project Willow. If I have done something to upset you, please tell me what and I will proceed to flagellate myself for that. By pm if you wish.

Edit: ahh...did some catching up.
