But really without qualifiers or quantifiers like limiting magnitudes and intensities it's an undefinable question you're asking without the possibility of any answer being the correct answer or with the possibility all would be correct. It's all relative. If I asked my LL what big thing happened this spring, he'd tell me the biggest thing for him this spring was his doctor telling him his prostate cancer had metastasized into his spine and will soon affect his brain; that he had not five years, but two, to live. The terrible Schoharie County limo accident that killed 20 would be the biggest thing to happen to some. For me, listening to my LL to me his sentence had been shortened. The world stage is too vast, with far too many big things happening all the time, relative to one's scope of perspective.

Besides, it's a trick question. Fractals are infinitely small as well as infinitely large. Doesn't that correlate to having the same effect upon everything else, for everything big to someone somewhere at any given time could be utterly insignificant to another, whether or not they witnessed the other's big thing.

I was hoping for a brief summary of Bergson's theses, in your words, since you brought him up. I'm not gonna read a whole damn book to try to figure out what you're not talking about.

Entice us, please tease us with a little of what about it impressed you enough to refer it to us and explain what that has to do with your question. I also think you're being rude to me by ignoring all I wrote to merely thank me for my contribution. I don't necessarily want your thanks; I want you to explain yourself, your question and your motive for posting such an obnoxious question in the first place. I had hoped for conversation with you. Lastly, Spring has passed and your question irrelevant to the topic of this thread. Time and will are constructs of consciousness. There's a proper thread for that discussion to be had, if you seek a discussion about Time and Will.

Some of what I just wrote is my opinion. Discussion of the book, Time and Will in this thread is inappropriate. That is a fact, not my opinion. In fact, the proper thread to discuss it in is the Questioning Consciousness thread. Also, not my opinion, but a matter of fact. I no longer care to engage with you, minime. Perhaps I shall if you choose to respond and have offered something of merit worth my time reading and again responding to. So far, communicating with you in this thread hasn't been all that rewarding for me. You've not responded to any of my criticisms of your Big question. Why?

I hope my edit helps the readability of my remarks. It's really become quite a chore to appear somewhat literate while composing my comments.

When you said "as if I need more to read" I assumed you were talking about something more to read. The original source material. Bergson is lucid and concise. Without a wasted word. Paraphrasing his words would be more long-winded than the original.

Duration, intensities, magnitudes. Brilliant. A show-stopper. A zen-like slap in the face, a bracing breath of fresh air in Western Philosophy.

Read it; don't read it. Start page one, and stop whenever you wish.

That the thesis has to do with the immediate data of consciousness does not necessarily preclude its application to this thread. Quite the contrary in fact.
