The "involved" part is probably good old American puritanism at work.

It would be too graphic for the sensibilities of Times readers to say, "Feds say Spitzer hired high-priced prostitute." My, they might visualize the Act itself! The euphemism of course ends up making it sound like he ran the ring out of his office.

Whereas the NY tabloids are holding high-level emergency meetings to determine the most salacious possible headline for tomorrow's papers right now.

And the identity of the woman "involved" is being hunted for the shot at a $100,000 papparazi prize.

When news of the ring was in an upstate paper the other day, the website was gone but I visited the Wayback Machine version.

I'm not getting pictures coming up at this point, though they didn't show faces anyway, allegedly because these were college students or women in the business world. The pictures were softcore, not racier than a Victoria's Secret catalogue. The text.... let's say it hurts to read it. They are trying so hard to give that air of classiness, but none of their student prostitutes (a growing trend, BTW) appears to be an English major.

Here's the text for one of the women, Candace:

"Candace is a smoldering Caribbean beauty...Her feline eyes and lithe frame were made for the catwalk. Due to her University commitments, she exclusively models part time for lingerie designers. Oh, the picture loaded after all.

Maybe she's just a "superb friend" of Spitzer's. Those with a copy of Woody Allen's book Without Feathers to hand may turn to the short story, "The Whore of Mensa" to get a feeling for what it was like in the Golden Age of brainy coed superb friendshipness.

So...no doubt Spitzer was under surveillance by FBI/CIA/NSA to get something on him.
When they had it, they waited until they NEEDED it for a diversion from White House crimes.

That's how the game is played amongst the big boys.
Hugh, let's also not forget that it was Spitzer, as Prosecutor for NY, who had authority to investigate the various crimes - especially the financial crimes - collectively known as 911 that occurred in NYC. Which of course, he declined to do. Small wonder, huh. Even if he had been so inclined, they had the goods on him. 'Da bitches prolly set him up, too, though he was more than willing.

Isachar, I had the exact same thought. But. Either a truly disproportionate number of those "big boys" get really, really horny as their careers advance, or it's the other way around.

As for the "bitches" that prolly set him up, don't forget that the ringleader had an Israeli passport... Just saying.
