" I mean, you already know that the amazing talismanic benefits of masks must necessarily and self-evidently outweigh their costs and risks."
What I'm trying to get at is that when people do the 'cost/benefit analysis,' they judge with emotional intelligence as well as rational intelligence. The conclusions they draw are always intelligent, as intelligence is defined in their respective reality tunnels.
Masks have amazing talismanic benefits that don't outweigh the costs in your reality tunnel. In other reality tunnels, the mask isn't a talisman. The communication failure isn't between differing interpretations of the scientific facts, but between reality complexes which appear completely alien to one another.

Both his words and manner of speech seemed at first totally unfamiliar to me, and yet somehow they stirred memories - as an actor might be stirred by the forgotten lines of some role he had played far away and long ago.

Van Morrison
No more lockdown
No more government overreach
No more fascist police
Disturbing our peace
No more taking our freedom
And our God-given rights
Pretending it's for our safety
When it's really to enslave
Who's running our country?
Who's running our world?
Examine it closely
And watch it unfurl
No more lockdown
No more threats
No more Imperial College scientists makin' up crooked facts
No more lockdown
No more pulling the wool over our eyes
No more celebrities tellin' us
Tellin' us what wе're supposed to feel
No more status quo
Put your shouldеr to the wind
No more lockdown
No more lockdown

That's pretty funny, if you think about it for a second.

Re: Coronavirus Crisis: Main Thread
Masks show how much you care about all those people with asthma, diabetes, COPD, hypertension, heart disease, anxiety disorders, and other conditions that make masking dangerous; and about all those old people in particular, whose masks cut down their oxygen, and, because masks block peripheral vision, make older people even more susceptible to fatal falls; and about the millions of children made to play and go to school in masks, despite their strong natural immunity to COVID-19, and the dire effects of masking on their physical and mental health, and emotional development; and about the risk of cancer posed by paper masks, which are treated with teflon and other carcinogenic chemicals; and about the workers in poor countries, churning out those toxic masks all day, at untold risk to their own health; and about the tons and tons of soiled masks dropped daily on the ground—on streets, in parks—by their "caring" users, and permanently clogging ocean waters all over the world, and choking marine life, at a staggering rate.
So buy, and wear, a mask that says "BE KIND" or "SMILE," to show how much you care about all that, and everybody else; and yell at anyone who isn't also wearing one, or, if you can't, or if you do and they ignore you, report them to the cops, or management, or whatever other entity in place to deal with anyone who doesn't "care" as much as you do.

How much evidence does it take to break the spell of all that propaganda?
No amount of evidence can break that spell, as long as "our free press" ignores or misreports it; so this is to be used in conversation with the millions who don't trust the media, or who aren't fully hypnotized, and know there's something wrong with what they're seeing/reading/hearing everywhere they turn.

There's also Hank Aaron's recent death, shortly after taking the 'vaccine', but most mainstream press will be quick to dismiss any such connections.
Many that blindly accept the official Covid death tallies will at the same time refuse to consider the timing of these recent deaths, occurring shortly after 'vaccination'. Will there be any sober assessment of deaths occurring shortly after inoculation? There will always be plausible deniability.

Re: Coronavirus Crisis: Main Thread
https://data.sfgov.org/stories/s/d96w-cdge
We are now down to to 40 total hospitalized patients in the entire San Francisco hospital system who have tested positive for COVID-19, including one patient that was transferred from another hospital system. That's less than 3% of the patients currently in San Francisco hospitals and less than 1% of San Francisco's total hospital bed capacity, if you include the surge beds that have never been needed to be utilized over this entire year.
On 3/4 the positivity rate for COVID-19 in San Francisco was 0.46% (just 32 positives among 7,000+ tests performed), and the 7 day rolling average for San Francisco's positivity rate is now 0.87%.
Because published false positive rates of COVID-19 PCR tests range from 0.5% to 1%, there is actually no statistical reason to believe that anyone in the entire city necessarily has COVID-19.
But still, roughly 100% of San Francisco residents are wearing masks, sanitizing their hands, and practicing social distancing with unrelenting religious ferocity while policing anyone who dares to deviate from these practices with with even greater religious ferocity.
Still, there are no plans in to reopen any schools or places of worship, indoor dining is prohibited, and most small local businesses are operating under severe mandated restrictions.
No advisories have changed one iota.
https://sf.gov/topics/coronavirus-covid-19
Stay home as much as possible. Avoid gatherings. Wear face coverings. Get updates on the vaccine.
What to do
Stay home. Save lives.
Help slow the spread of the coronavirus as we reopen San Francisco.
Stay 6 feet apart: Physical distancing
When you go out, stay 6 feet apart from other people.
Wear a face covering
In general, wear something to cover your face when you leave your home.
So here is my question. Exactly how safe does it have to be before any San Francisco residents even consider going back to the morally depraved practices of showing their faces outdoors and (GASP!) even touching their fellow humans?
What happened to the original idea that these were temporary practices to flatten the curve? When did all of these practices transition in self-sustaining virtues regardless of actual risk?

Re: Coronavirus Crisis: Main Thread
All I can think is that we will all be forced to continue to pretend that the world is ending because of health threat that has not changed the expected age of mortality one iota in most localities until enough of us have been forced to get an experimental vaccine.
While all "good liberals" (like Amy Goodman) cheer wildly!
Democracy Now | Vaccine apartheid: If one person is unprotected, we are all unprotected
Schakowsky’s point is vital: if one person in the world remains unprotected, we are all unprotected. The COVID-19 virus mutates rapidly. Highly contagious variants are spreading around the globe, including the UK, South Africa, and Brazil variants, now joined by the New York City variant. If the virus is not contained globally, it will continue to mutate and spread through unprotected populations, potentially rendering our current crop of vaccines ineffective — plunging the planet back into a catastrophic pandemic all over again.
“A pernicious form of vaccine apartheid has emerged…largely based on wealth and geography,” Fatima Hassan, a South African human rights campaigner who fought for access to live-saving HIV/AIDS drugs for poor countries, wrote this week in Foreign Policy. “The pandemic response should not have to rely on voluntary cooperation but urgent wartime measures, including compulsory ones.”
The WTO is meeting in early March to debate the waiver. As it relies on consensus decision making, any single country can block it. Trillions of dollars in potential economic damage and millions of lives hang in the balance. The United States, the wealthiest nation in the world, with the highest number of COVID-19 deaths — now over half a million — should be leading the charge to share life-saving vaccines and treatments around the globe.
Yes, indeed. Vaccination (God the Father), Masks (Our Lord and Savior), Social Distancing and (the Holy Spirit of Isolation) and are our new Holy Trinity!

And even if nobody at all got sick without the masks, it would have been better to force them to wear masks anyway. You know, following the same "precautionary principle" that "justifies" the fluoridation of our public water supplies.
